2023 Recruiting - WBB

I couldn't help myself and decided to subscribe to the Ball Out. If they are right, Texas should be happy about Booker's decision.

Vic has the longest relationship with her of any of the schools recruiting her. He’s probably been recruiting her since she was in middle school, maybe even earlier than that. Seeing that she’s one of the best, if not the best player to come out of Mississippi since Victoria Vivians. She grew up watching Vic turn Mississippi St. into a great program.

She's a VERY GOOD player... fingers crossed.

You are right. He’s been on her since she was an 8th grader. Texas or Duke is the rumor.

I didn't know a lot about Booker all these months as there just wasn't much out there regarding her recruitment. Obviously, being selected for USA Basketball teams speaks volumes (kind of like when Celeste Taylor was being selected). At a reported 6'1, I felt that perhaps she would be similar in build and skills to Jordana Codio, Ndjakalenga, and Gisella Maul. But, when I saw the photo of her with Gisella taken during their Texas official visits, I saw a huge difference physically. Booker is a player that most recruiting analysts would describe as "having a college-ready body".

So, when I compare her to our other small forwards like Shay and Ndjakalenga, I see Booker as a very physical versus finesse type of player (which I'm sure Vic loves). In those videos posted above, she has range beyond the 3-point line. She seems to have good ball handles and is not afraid of contact and can probably get to the rim and finish whenever she wants. If that is accurate, she would bring "power" and strength to our small forward group.

Hope we can get her!

We’ll how bout them apples. A Dirk one legged fadeaway. I saw at least 3 in those videos. I can’t remember a girls/women player use that. Anybody who copies Dirk simply HAS to be a Horn.

Don't get me started! I remember Joyner Holmes taking those shots against Baylor (and missing badly)!

Mooo……certainly your memory is better than mine. Especially when it comes to J Holmes. I do remember an announcer saying Holmes was the female Lebron James. And We know how that turned out. I guess she may have tried the one-legged fadeaway a few times, but her shooting over 4 years was so poor, I probably wanted to erase that part. Booker looks like an entirely different player than Holmes and I’ bet she can pull it off.

Me neither lol and she did just start following texas wbb[/QUOTE]

Not sure how recent, but Madison Booker started following Rori Harmon on IG since she started following TexasWBB.

I follow Tennessee recruiting a lot and I can say for a fact it’s not Tennessee.

She did visit five times, both officially and unofficially, but her relationship with Vic was the deciding factor. Her parents have wanted Texas for a long time. She wanted to make sure.

You’re getting a good one.

I get the feeling she is related to former Longhorn football DE great, Tony Brackens.

His niece. From an article about McKinna winning the Waco Tribune-Herald’s Super Centex Girls Basketball Player of the Year:

"Yes, Fairfield junior McKinna Brackens is indeed the daughter of hometown legend Tony Brackens, the former University of Texas and NFL defensive lineman who will be inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in May."

“I’ve already talked with Shadasia (Brackens),” said McKinna, referring to her junior teammate and cousin. “As soon as the game was over we were already talking about coming back next year and how we have to get the ring again, get the third ring.”

Sure hoping that Maddie Booker becomes a Longhorn. She's got the skills and physique to become a dominant player at the next level. If she does in fact choose to play for Vic and stays with him her entire college career, and barring any major injury or unfortunate illness, he'll have her developed into an All-American who will leave Austin ready to compete professionally at the highest level on both sides of the ball. She's THAT good! I'm really excited about the possibility of her wearing burnt orange.
