2023 Recruiting - Football

Nahhh.. three guys get a little bit, and our Pancake Factory feeds the whole line.

Erhm, the schools which are included in this deal (or so I've been told) are terrible Hooters markets. All the OKC locations are trash, I've never left one in the Miami / Palm Beach area I did not need a shower and a tetanus shot for.

A recuit may want to help the recruiting class by committing early, like Manning, but he also wants to go visit other schools because later he may decommit and then he could choose a school he has already seen. Also, kids want to take all there visits because of the fun, pampering and girls
Also, they might use a commitment as a "placeholder" while they check out all their options.

I went to the one nearest to Norman years ago. Right up front, the waitress told me she was a single mom and was having trouble paying rent. Later, she tried to sell me a 'Girls of Hooter's' calendar. I said no, I'd just have to hide it with all of my f books somewhere. She had the gall to call me a jerk...

George,

I don't know how old you are, but before Gundy got to oSu they were known for having some outstanding "ladies" for their visitors. Unlike Colorado, oSu's were shall we say more "age appropriate."

People need to stop acting like we're the restaurant you have to make reservations for 6 months in advance.

That's the best comparison I've ever read. It's always been that restaurant to me. But being honest with myself, we're that Corn Dog 7 with lots of other options in the food court...

Yeah because 5* safeties grow on trees. People need to stop acting like we're the restaurant you have to make reservations for 6 months in advance.

As you’ve been keen to point out in the past, stars are not the end all, be all. To further that point, BJ Foster was a 5-star as I recall (among a few others) who didn’t end up meaning a great deal in the end, and quite possibly b/c of dedication, commitment and development short-comings. Maybe these short-comings are not wholly unforeseeable when taken in context and a kid who commits, but not really/fully, is another ingredient in the assessment. This post is much less about a kid in this day and age weighing options/experiences available to him and much more about your persistent efforts to seemingly only post when you see the opportunity to repress optimism or denigrate those who aspire to recruiting kids who buy in for a little more than $ or likes or whatever comes next.

I hope Williams is truly just choosing to feel his oats a bit and drink it all in, but I consider it completely fair for coaches, teammates and fans alike to at least wonder just how “committed” someone might be that proposes yet continues to date.

To summarize, yes the process is way different nowadays but maybe the anticipated outcomes for this kind of choice/behavior shouldn’t be written off as just what is to be expected.

I know I’m showing my age and this isn’t sour grapes - but the recruiting services need to stop with using the term “ commitment “.
When I am committed to anything, it means more of a moral/ethical declaration of a promise to do ( or give it a 100% effort to try) something.
I didn’t ask my wife to get married and continue to date.
When I accept a job offer, my search is over.( even though I had one kid not show up on me that I hired)
When I RSVP - I’m there.

Make your visits. Then commit. Then unless the coaches change.. stop looking.

My point is , if you’re not “ committed “, then don’t commit until you are- it’s a character issue.

These are “very strong leans” , not commitments and why I like the early signing day. It stops the Priloux and Dumb Martell Bennett narssastic behavior BS.

It will be an interesting comparison to watch Sark's style versus Mack's "now or never" plan. Of course, there is one major variable regardless of style, and that is "game day coaching", which was NEVER Mack's strong suit.

Perhaps mack had issues with "game day coaching" but I had issues with Sark's game day coaching last year. However, in Sark's defense, he had a real lack of depth in most positions. Plus he had a few players not sold out. Plus the second half porous defense must have caused undue stress leading to poor decisions. I am giving him benefit of doubt and am looking forward to this season.

Just as a human being...getting invited for a luxury weekend meeting luminaries of college football would be a life memory worth treasure. I wouldn't take for my time at UT, but probably would have enjoyed more campus visits to other great universities.

Considering the potential NIL benefits at a place like Texas I would say that is (or could be) precisely the analogy to make
But I don't disagree with your overall point as things stand today

Anyone think this kid (LB) is any good?

IMG White team LB that loves Texas. Just started playing HS football in April, in Mexico (now IMG). He’s completely off the radar screen, for now. #42

I watched a lot of the Duncanville-SOC game. Lots of good athletes but both offenses looked so out of sync. Erratic qb play unless they took the snap and ran it.
Good hitting on defense.
Coaching?
