2023 Portal Recruiting (Opens December 5th)

Did they do away with the "Texas rule", which made any kid playing at a Texas Juco had to graduate before transferring to a four year school?

I dunno.

K’Von “Showtime” Sherman is a stud LB that got a coveted invite to our recruiting pool party. He’s at a Kansas JC now. Hopefully he comes here and plays next year. His performance on the football field is not an issue—he’s good. And we need LBs and LB depth.

@SabreHorn

Just maybe…you might be able get and share some double top secret inside scoop on if we still want Showtime Sherman and, if not, why?

Thanks.

Denver? You think he’ll drop down to that? No disrespect tonSH, but he could have gone to any college in the country last year.
Sad.
Does anybody remember the ‘can’t miss’ DL from El Paso? Dre Jones, if I remeber. Posted a video smoking dope in a gas mask on you tube. Blew up his entire college career/life. Kids do dumb things and show no sign of a upward sloping learning curve

Lance was the best player I think we ever got out of El Paso.

Mack Brown got a defensive player (LB I think) out of El Paso. Kid was supposed to be "all world". Upon arrival, he got hooked up with Robert Joseph from Port Arthur. Don't know if they were roommates or what. Port Arthur was coached by a guy that came through the Neal Quillen Willowridge tree, following him to Aldine, Humble, and when he went into administration, he helped the guy get a job as HC of Bumble Jackets or whatever their mascot is. Joseph was the real deal; should have been a five star. Best hitter I've seen at safety since Steve Atwater. What no one would tell Mack Brown was that Joseph had multiple felony convictions (4 or 5) that were sealed because he was a minor. The coach kept it covered up and later pretended to not know. Joseph got arrested in Travis County and while in jail, called the kid from El Paso and asked him to go over and take care of the witnesses against him. All recorded. Neither survived that episode as a Longhorn.

His was a tragic ending. Felt bad for the guy.

How did I forget him? He was the glue that held our defense together. I'll always believe if he doesn't go down, we win the Cotton Bowl.

There was another kid involved named James Henry in that fiasco

I also wish there was some type of Portal player rating system, like there is for recruits. How a portaling player ranked in HS is no longer a good indicator of their proficiency at the next level.

I’m sure that the coaches have a very good idea of who they would like to get, if they could. Talk about a kid in a candy store, this is nuts. Proven players galore, and you can only take a few…
