2023 Big12 WBB Tournament

Question: Shouldn’t the bracket be set up so that the worst team - if it wins - eventually meets up with the best team?

The two upsets mean Oklahoma not only gets a lower seed, but they also get to play the earlier game this evening so that they play a team that has less recovery time tomorrow.

We, the top seed, played second today so we will meet a team who got two hours extra recovery.

And tomorrow if, once again, the underdogs prevail, we potentially meet a tougher team than second seed Oklahoma could meet in the semi’s.

The brackets and times seem off to me. :idk:

TCU clawed back from a 9 point deficit in the 4th quarter to take a one point lead with 4 seconds left. OU called a timeout; then got a layup in 2 seconds to win.

Both Oklahoma school got damn lucky today. We'll get one tomorrow and then may get the other one Sunday.

But you don't re-seed brackets after they've been set.

I imagine Vic preferred the second game over the first game today too. We play earlier because the final game is in the afternoon. Our game times are about the same each day.

At the beginning of the OSU/WVU game, I thought I heard the TV announcers say that this would be the last women's tournament at Municipal Auditorium. Isn't moving to to the arena where the men play? If so, it would have to be a week earlier which I am all for.

I think that was a good result in the bAiler/ISU game. ISU doesn't recruit against us. bAiler does. BU did terribly at the end of last season (despite having some of the best talent in the country) and then finished like this, in the bottom half of the conference for this season. While I would have liked to have sent the ISU fans home for the weekend, I think this is a far better result for us.

Yes it’s being moved to T-Mobile Center the week before the Men. I’m good with that. Will be the schedule in the SEC anyway. And, it will be 14 teams of course next year

I’m asking why wasn’t TCU on our side of the bracket to begin with?

As per the times, it seems like the top seed should play first giving them the recovery time advantage.

Top 6 teams get byes.

In first round, it's 7 vs 10, and 8 vs 9. Since we were the #1 seed, we were slated to play the winner of the 8/9 game.

The 10 TCU upset the 7 Kansas. Winner of that game was slated to play #2 seed OU.

Truly. I know what happened. :beertoast:

What I was asking is why would the bracket be set up where the bottom team isn’t on the same side as the top team. The top seed should get the advantage from beginning to end. After upsets on BOTH sides of the bracket the advantage suddenly shifted to the two seed. Shouldn’t happen in my opinion. I could understand if the upset had only happened on the other side, but both lower seeds advanced and we got the higher of the two.

That said, I’m kind of glad we didn’t get TCU. They played their hearts out for their coach.

This isn't meant to sound harsh, but do you not understand how tournament brackets (in any college sport) work? This isn't some sort of conspiracy against Texas. The bracket was posted early in this thread so it might help if you view it; there is no shift or deviation from the how the bracket progresses round to round just because there are upsets along the way.

If #7 Kansas had beaten #10 TCU on Thursday, then it would have been #7 KU vs #2 OU on Friday.

If #8 Texas Tech had beaten #9 Kansas State on Thursday, then it would have been #8 Tech vs #1 Texas.

The only sport I know of that kind of reshuffles the matchups so that the top team always "inherits" the worst team left (according to seed) is the NFL. And, they don't call it a "tournament".

Oh for the love of god. I completely understand how it is set up. I’m not suggesting a conspiracy. I’m simply pointing out that both lower seeds advanced and the advantage of opponent and game times switched from the top seed to the second seed. Statistically speaking OU had/has the easier route to the final game. They played the lowest (not lower but lowest) seed yesterday and then the earlier of the two late games last night. In the National tourney the top seed in each bracket will play the lowest seed. That didn’t happen here. The answer (as someone mentioned) is the bye which gives top seeds an early advantage at the expense of later advantage. In the final game, the recovery time switches back to our favor so I guess it evens out. But the bye is a double edge sword.

This past week I was watching some games and weirdly there are a couple mid-major conference tournaments are set up to where the highest remaining seed always plays the lowest remaining seed and after the first round there is no predetermined 1/8 or 4/5 games. Every matchup is determined solely on results of the previous round.

I can’t remember which two conferences they were but I had never seen or heard of anything like that in college athletics..wish I had taken note

Interesting. In a true bracket, the top seed should face the lowest seed but our bye messes with that. In my opinion, after the first round, the bracket should be reset sending the lowest seed remaining to the top seed. But that’s just my opinion. I understand others don’t see it that way. Also we should have played the second game yesterday so that OSU had a shorter recovery time.

Ugh I was really hoping OU would beat ISU in order to send some of their fans home. They definitely have the largest percentage of fans here (and it’s not even close). They have been busy yelling against Texas no matter their opponent (as usual). Even worse, they will WHINE because Texas plays defense. They will exhaust themselves crying foul.

Get it together OU!

Has Aaliyah Moore been spotted on the bench in KC? I could not see if she was there against KSU.
Yes. And that missile the OSU player launched at the end of Q2 came within inches of hitting her squarely in the knee as she headed to the locker room. My heart skipped a beat.
