2023/2024 Portal News

Brnjk, just a real quick search reveals she helps us tremendously with 3 point shooting and free-throw shooting. How is her on-ball pressure perimeter defense in your view?
She's a good defender, and could become an elite one with the right teaching. I'll tell you who she reminds me of... A little taller version of Kyra Lambert after she caught on to Vic's defense and also started shooting well. Except Jewel plays that way all the time, and obviously she hasn't had the injuries Kyra had. Jewel is a capable ball handler and passer who can handle point guard duties. But put her off the ball with someone like Rori to set her up, and that's where she would thrive. She's a whole walking bucket!

Back a week or so ago when several of us were watching social media regarding Taina Mair, we had noticed that she started following Aaliyah Moore (which was a positive sign for us). Right after that (or around the same time), I had noticed that Mair started following Jewel Spear; didn't think too much of it at the time, but definitely noticed it and was not going to forget it.

If memory serves me correctly, over the last year or so, I’ve noticed that Jewel and some of our players seem to have some sort of friendship as evidenced by social media activity. That was one reason we were hoping she would hit the portal last year. Glad to hear about her connection to Amo.

Give me Mair and Spears or Spears and Rogers and I’d say we won the portal. Honestly give me anyone along with Spears and I’m happy. I just want Spears!!!

So you're saying she is what we hoped K. Hunter would be.

PLUS she does all of this playing with a high motor and a great attitude. She's a player that brings even more positivity to team chemistry.

I’m starting to wonder if maybe Texas doesn’t care if they get “outbid” in the NIL department for women’s basketball. Kids will gladly go to “lesser” schools if the $$$ is good. It would be arrogant to think otherwise

Obviously, injuries affected our team this past season. Regardless, I kept thinking, "Who is our go-to scorer?" and "Who can take over a game for us offensively?". Three seasons ago it was Charli Collier for the most part; and, maybe Celeste when she was feeling it. Two seasons ago, I guess I would say it was Matharu; but, foul trouble and limited minutes on the court kept that from happening consistently.

This past season? It could have been Aaliyah Moore (21 points in the Bahamas against Louisville); but, injured in December. Could have been Sonya; but, late season injury. Shaylee might have been the go-to player by default; DeYona had some great offensive games in conference play. Rori just didn't show that offensive firepower this past season; her assists went up, so we know she can affect the game in different ways. But, she just hasn't shown to be a scoring point guard who can take over a game scoring-wise.

Jewel Spear has been that player for her Wake Forest team the last 3 seasons. Really hope we can add her to our roster.

Not that it matters to us, but hVl officially going to play for the evil empire of Darth Mulkey and Emporer Reese. Man, she really sold Louisville a bill of goods judging by Walz's earlier comments that she wanted to be closer to home.

Ugh, why do good things happen to bad people?

Except most dream team scenarios don't end in championships. But who knows, maybe mUlkey will even schedule a non-conference game with a team in the top 300 now that she is more confident in her line-up. One of the disgusting after-effects of this is you will now have a lot of sudden lSu WBB fans strutting out on social media now like they were always fans.

That part! But if it happens don't expect it to be more than one game. She's basically always avoided top competition in non-conference.

Since when have Texas fans been arrogant?

I actually love this for the betterment and promotion of wbb. LSU will be a hate them or love them team (mostly hate). The exposure the wbb game is getting now is something most people have been wanting for years. This LSU team has the potential to be compared to Michigans Fab Five. Hopefully Texas can start getting 10-15k fans to show up at games like them. The more fans, the more players want to be part of it.

I guess this might be equivalent of Texas volleyball getting 6(!) experienced transfers in for the 2022 season.

Jewel Spear's recruitment out of high school:

Official Visits - Alabama, N.C. State, Texas Tech, & Wake Forest.

Finalists - Alabama, Georgetown, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, N.C. State, Texas Tech, & Wake Forest.

Wel hell. That doesn't promising.
I do like the "follows".
Hopefully that's a precursor.

I'm wondering if there are scenarios like the following being played out, or if there's anything in place to monitor and prevent it:
Big donors with deep pockets handing local businesses money (under the table) for NIL deals with student athletes.

Vic will need to pull out all the stops. I at least want to her on a visit because that’s when she can really be sold on coming to Austin. Moore, Maul and Holle were in her comments on her transfer post putting the eye emoji so I’m sure they are doing what they can to get her to Austin. Hopefully that Cy fair pipeline helps us out.

This is a fact! Getting scary.

I wonder how HVL is going to like the whole "Bayou Barbie & Others" show with the crowning ceremony before each game, etc? That act already robbed Alexis Morris of the FF MVP award due to all the hype about Reese.
This should be interesting...

It looks like hVl fell for the whole mUlkey line of BS. I won't post the link because I'm tired of the hype pictures, but here's the reason she gave the media for committing to lucifer's daughter:
"The fan base and university here love and support their women's basketball team like no other," she said. "LSU plays with an intensity and grit that I am drawn to and I am wholeheartedly committed to helping this team be great.”

I got news for you hVl. LSU fans are supporting the team because it is winning. Give me a break. She fell for mUlkey's BS hook, line and sinker.

Get us Jewel Spear and get Amo fully healthy.. add that to what we have coming back from last year and the two incoming freshman (I'm almost certain the Abby will red shirt) and we can compete with any team in the nation.
