2022 Recruiting - WBB

I agree that the 3 seniors will most likely not come back. Kids are wanting to get started with their careers and next phase of life. An example is JoAnne Taylor being a mechanical engineering major. Competition for playing time will be intense. Going down next year’s potential roster, you can do all sorts of suppositions. Injuries, personal situations, playing time, personalities, coaches preferences, team success, next year’s freshmen, and other factors typically would lead to 2 to 4 current players leaving. Not going to speculate who cause would get it wrong and not fair. I will say that it is great to have lots of talent. And I believe every year the talent will be better.

I agree with you on Ebo, but I honestly don't expect anyone to be brought back for that extra year. Interesting that the roster lists all player classifications according to the number of seasons they have already played, except for the two JUCO players who are listed as sophomores. With the high quality of young talent Vic & Co. are bringing in, I expect him to push forward in building the team around them more and more as they develop. The question for me is how long will that take? I guess we'll find out. I'm excited for this season to get underway. Really excited!
Maybe. But players like Ebo who are willing to play down in the paint and bang are becoming more and more rare. Honestly, I'd rather have her return for 2022-23 (if she wants to) than sign an additional 2022 freshman wing/forward who doesn't have the same low block presence and size that Ebo brings.

At the moment, it doesn't seem like we're in contention for any 2022 post players unless Christeen from San Antonio Reagan wants to come. So, we might not be bringing in a comparable replacement for Ebo; that's not my ideal scenario.

I am in total agreement. The future is in the youth movement. I’m sure Texas would give those 3 an additional free scholarship year if they wanted it but not to play basketball. There is no way Vic would pass on Littlepage-Buggs or any other elite transfer or recruit to keep a place for the 3 seniors. I expect some attrition in the class anyway. Interesting point to discuss at the least. Also we have a year of Championship ball to watch before this is reality.

Have we discussed 6'0 guard Ysabella Fontleroy out of Missouri?

Bella Fontleroy: Daughter of Missouri State legend is a top recruit (news-leader.com)

Among her offers include Stanford, Louisville, Texas, Arizona and Baylor — all teams that qualified for the Elite Eight this past season with the Cardinal winning the national championship and Arizona finishing as the national runner-up.

Other offers include Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida, Arizona State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Texas Tech, Mizzou and more.

ESPNW has Fontleroy as #88 wing in 2022 class. She is listed at 6-1”. The write up shows she is apparently a super kid and one you would want on your team. Might be an option depending on Littlepage-Buggs and how the other wings currently on team develop. She had a really nice offer list even after missing a year with ACL surgery. Someone to follow

Currently we have one remaining scholarship spot open for the 2022 class. That is also assuming we have no attrition next year. The only buzz I have seen is with Darianna Littlepage-Buggs. If Texas could get a commitment from her it would be another amazing class.
Looking at the list of Freshmen and Sophomores in '22-'23 brings home what strong recruiters our coaching staff are. And then, the next year, Abbie at 6-9. And she can play ball! I'm looking forward to the coming years.

I expected to see some recruit visits this past weekend but can’t find anything on social media. I’m wondering if the coaches are slow playing/delaying 2022 and 2023 visits a bit until the Moody is a bit further along and can be shown on a tour.

I'm on the same wavelength as you. Over the weekend, I was analyzing social media to find evidence of recruits on campus visiting this past weekend. If Littlepage-Buggs plans to sign in November, she needs to narrow down her list to 5 schools as she starts scheduling her official campus visits this fall. If Texas is in her top 5, Vic & Co may schedule her official visit to coincide with a home football game. Looking at the football schedule, we have the following home games in Sept/Oct.

Rice: September 18th
Texas Tech: September 25th
Oklahoma State: October 16th
Kansas: November 13th

In my opinion, the Texas Tech and OSU games are the games most likely to be recruiting weekends for TxWBB. The weather should be cooler in late September/October and the quality of the Tech and OSU games should be better than the Rice game. Additionally, Texas Volleyball plays TCU on October 15th so the recruits could take in a volleyball game the night prior to the OSU football game.

Littlepage-Buggs doesn't give a lot of hints on her social media platforms so it's difficult to determine if she has any favorites out of the 10 schools. Hopefully, we'll get a few more clues in the upcoming weeks as she begins to take her official visits.

This past weekend was a prime weekend for UT sports recruiting. I saw several football players being driven by golf carts to and from the Sunday volleyball game. And where I've seen UT WBB show recruits the volleyball game, there were 4 important volleyball recruits in the reserved VIP part of the stands. Since I didn't see Vic and his staff with any high school-aged kids, I would assume that there were no visits from WBB recruits this past weekend.

First time I have seen her height reported as 6'1, which is no doubt more accurate than 6'2.

Of course, it all depends on what you can do with that height, whatever it is.

6’1” or 6’2” with long arms and quickness - I’m not going to quibble.:)

Vic, Coach Dee, and Coach A.P had an in-home visit this week with 2022 recruit, Flau'jae Johnson, a 5'10" G from Georgia (#55 on ESPN Hoop Gurlz).

Johnson is currently on her 1st official visit to the University of Miami this weekend. Her stock blew up this summer in an AAU tourney where she was named the MVP of the Slam Summer Classic. She holds offers from Kentucky, Miami, Georgia, Miss State, Florida, and LSU, to name a few.

Johnson is also a talented hip-hop artist and has an album on Apple music titled "On My Own".

Littlepage-Buggs just completed her official visit to Florida. I hope we’ll get a visit from her next weekend (Tx Football plays Tx Tech) or on the weekend of October 16th (Tx Football plays Okie State).

I really like Buggs, she reminds me of Marissa Coleman. Her and Ndjakalenga play the some position so I don't think we get her.

I'm surprised she would "waste" her first official visit on Florida when they have an interim head coach (and staff). Would make more sense for her to just wait until next March/April to see who the new head coach will be. She's not obligated to sign in November 2021, as there is a Spring signing period (April 2022). This visit (at this time) leaves me scratching my head.

Perhaps she has reasons for taking this visit now that aren't apparent to the rest of us.

If Vic and his family were up in a skybox for the football game, I'm assuming there were no official (or unofficial) visitors this weekend.

So, I would think our main priority would be a true Center or low post player, but who knows for sure? Lots of versatile players in the class of 2022.

Not sure how similar Darianna and Kiersten are to our latest SG/SF verbal commitments, but sometimes it's first-come, first-served.

Not sure if any other names remain on our board other than:

· KK Bransford 5’10 G, Ohio (ESPN Rank #27)
· Darianna Littlepage-Buggs 6’0 W, Oklahoma (ESPN Rank #35)
· Kiersten Johnson, 6’3 F, Texas (ESPN Rank #40)
· Brianna McDaniel 5’11 G, Illinois (ESPN Rank #30)
· Kyla Oldacre 6’6 C, Ohio (ESPN Rank #17)
· Christeen Iwuala 6’3 C, Texas (ESPN Rank #70)

Of course, there could always be some JUCO targets out there.

Lots of Texas kids have chosen to go play at UCLA and USC over the years. Can't recall many who have had outstanding careers out there. Maybe Endyia Rogers at USC (before she transferred to Oregon) and Japrece Dean at UCLA (after she transferred from Texas Tech).

Check out #5 and #7 on the list…

Darianna Littlepage-Buggs didn’t make the cut? ESPN has her ranked higher than either of our 2 girls on the elite list. Not that I trust espn’s rankings. Who actually sees all these kids play and formulates the rankings based on what?

Definitely something strange about this list. Lauren Betts (ESPN's #1 in the Class of 2022 committed to Stanford) is not even on there.
