2022 Recruiting - Football

Beats me, LHABSOB. That's why I asked the question. Heard it from a group of young Texas fans while watching Iowa game at Hand Mueller. They said they heard it on radio.
I bet $100 there were talking about Skinner who picked bama before the game.

247 reporting TE Jaleel Skinner of IMG Academy is trying to schedule a visit to Austin this weekend despite committing to Alabama last week.

LB Kvon Sherman of Pearland High has committed to New Mexico.

Texas was interested in the summer and the beginning of the season, but no offer.

Kvon Sherman, Pearland, Linebacker
I've been pumping up this recruit because his film last year was so good. This player's film got him a coveted (and rare) invite to the pool party. That being said, there could be a reason why 5 star LBs are rated 5 star LBs. To be fair to K'Von "Showtime" Sherman, he really should be rated at least a high 3 star, if not a 4 star LB (where I'd put him). He's been a zero star since his listed recruiting weight is 189 lbs (he's 217 lbs now). New Mexico got a heck of a player for them. This sort of guy often ends up at TCU, OSU, Baylor, or Tech and has a lights-out game against us, leaving many Horn fans wondering "why can't we get guys like that...?"

Watch for someone on the level of Tech, TCU, OSU, Baylor, etc to "find" him and ultimately sign him. If we don't come back and offer him (admittedly an unlikely event), I'd like to see the Pirate take him.

Chop,

There is something missing on this kid. Accepting an offer to the worst run school in America to play before all of 25-30 people does not sound reasonable. He would be better off at UTSA, SWT, Sam or SFA. Add in that ABQ is such a **** town full of over educated eggheads, WHY?

I dunno. There could be some off the field stuff we aren't privy to? I've seen nothing about him being a prima donna type or "difficult to coach", nothing like that at all. As far as why he said "yes" to NM--so far they're the only ones to offer him, other than Houston Baptist. Make no mistake, "Showtime" Sherman has to be good to get a coveted invite to the pool party--surrounded by 5 stars and (mostly high) 4 stars. We don't invite many recruits to that event.

My best guess: Showtime was far off everyone's radar, and was unranked / zero stars, mainly because cites like Rivals and 24/7 still had (maybe even now still have?) him as a 189 pound middle linebacker. Too small to get star ratings at LB. The current reality: at last weigh in, he's a 217 pound middle linebacker and still really fast. He was all district and the star of his team. Our scouting turned him up, our coaches watched his film and were impressed enough to bring him in to the pool party (an event otherwise full of 5 star and 4 star rated players).

The staff my not feel good about our current LB recruiting and not ready to burn a scholly on " potential" just yet for a LB.
If he waits till the 2nd signing date we may revisit him.
I definitely like what I've seen of him.

I think I get what you're saying, but with Showtime Sherman, it's a little bit different. It's more like he's already got fantastic performance on the field (not just potential). So he's not a "project." The real question is: how high is his ceiling?

The closest comparison would be our 2022 commit LB Trevell Johnson, who is about 15 lbs or more lighter than Showtime now. Their film from last year looks very similar. Johnson may also have some injury issues, I don't know what the latest is on that. Hopefully he gets well soon.

We need to understand VERY QUICKLY what a loss as we just experienced can do to the program for the next few years.

A single lost game is not going to determine the recruiting season to much of a degree. Otherwise Mack would never have been able to recruit after the ou blowouts he suffered.
Losing to ou will not hurt us as much as beating okie lite will help us. Especially if we can do it convincingly.
Lose to them however and all bets are off.

Based on information available for free we were never a major player for him. He picked OU over the aggies and they just beat Alabama.

100% correct. Its pretty funny how insane these posts about the sky is falling over a last second loss. Some will say its how we lost. Those folks need to get a life. I was front row in the cotton bowl, in the pit of demons because my nephew was drunk when he bought the tickets. The trailer park clan from north of the red river are just as bad as these sky is falling crew. They were bad mouthing the coach, the former heisman qb, everything. Once the momentum changed, they were the typical rabid, blood sucking vermon that they are. I rewatched the game last night and all these haters need to get a life. Texas played well, ou made some very very lucky plays and got some help from the refs. Hope we continue the progress that fair minded folks can see from binder boy and from the social justice experiment.

I couldn't agree more with longhornledgend. You at how differently we've played this year compared to the past. In the first half of Sark's year one, the offense is more explosive than it's been in a very long while. The defense is patching together players that were not recruited to play the schemes the D-coordinator likes to primarily run. It's more of a let's make the best of the talent we have for now. These things can be "sold" to recruits that they may be the pieces to the puzzle, and the demonstration that if you can play ball you will see the field early. I firmly believe that we will be at the top of where we belong much faster than expected by the improvements made each week. The sky is not falling .. sky is the limit. HOOK EM'

Either you havent seen our 2022 DL recruiting class which is off the charts good or you dont care. We have a monster recruiting class now. Is it the best no, but its exceptional. We still have more ships to use and we need to. A couple of OL and a LB and we are beyond blessed.
