I will never understand that mentality. My family and I are "carpetbaggers." We moved to Plano from Oakland, CA in 1984, because my dad found a good job in Plano. None of us are culturally "Texan." I don't speak with a southern accent or say "y'all," and the term "fixin' to" has always grated on me. I hate it. To me, "oil" is a two-syllable word, and "hair" is a one-syllable word. I say um-BRELL-a, not UM-brell-a. I drink "soda," not "coke," even when I drink actual Coke.

But in 1984, Oakland was a crime-ridden dump with high taxes and atrocious schools. Plano was a safe, family-friendly city with low taxes and excellent schools. It didn't matter if we didn't fit into Texas culture. Never in a million years would we have voted to make Plano more like Oakland by electing adherents to the same ideology that made Oakland what it was. It would have made no sense. What would have been the point of moving?

And yet thousands of dumbf*cks from California vote to make Texas like California. It makes no sense.

The view from Texas in '84 was California did have some weirdos (especially around Berkley and Palo Alto) but also had a lot of hard-working folks with plenty of beach scenery.

The SF Bay Area was well into the crapper even when I was a kid. Christmas of 1982, I was woken up to gunshots across the street. My brother had a gun pulled on him at school - in 8th grade. I had to engage in real fist fights as a 1st and 2nd grader. And we weren't even in one of the worst neighborhoods of Oakland. The Black Panthers ran our city.

The difference could not have been more stark. It was like moving from Somalia to Switzerland. The living arrangements were very different too. In Oakland, I shared a bedroom with an older brother and two older sisters. Yep - four kids in one room. In Plano, each one of us got our own big bedrooms. Unreal.
 
Dims are scum. They're really worried Baldwin may lose to Hovde so what do they do? They fund a far right candidate as an independent to draw votes away from Hovde. And, they appear to be doing it other places. I'm surprised they haven't funded MTG as an independent for president.

I hope Texas voters are starting to realize that Allred is a liberal Democrat - his voting record in the House was 100% party-line for the Democratic policies.

The Texas demz, playing with Soros' money, are continually getting it wrong. Beto against any Republican with a pulse will lose any statewide race. White never had a chance against Governor Good Hair and should have been held back to run against Cornyn. Now If Allred loses (hopefully) he has to blame himself and the demz "machine" in Texas. The only positive Cruz brings is he is a Republican. (However, he will probably be on the SCOUS one day. He is that good of a legal scholar.)
 
Allred's just plain goofy with his plan to let boys in skirts play girls sports, and go into their locker rooms. Normal people think that's bizarre, and dangerous to the real girls.

But with a background in Baylor football, his moral and ethical compass probably points towards a different direction than with most folks. There are people who think this sort of stuff (both genders in the same locker room, etc.) is perfectly fine. And there are people who think you should cover-up gang rapes to protect a sports team. Who knows. :idk:
