In 2020, Phillips sophomore year she was behind O'Neal and Butler on the depth chart at MB. Fields was penciled in at opposite (where she played as a freshman) with Parra set to take over for departing Micaya White. Fields started hitting for incredible numbers when moved to the left. Phillips had been used as a blocking sub on the right for the later part of her freshman year, so the switch was made to get Fields more efficient hitting numbers and convert Phillips to an opposite. This year would have been the year for her to go back except for the fact Elliott hit the transfer portal and loaded up on experienced middles.I cant remember the reasoning behind moving Phillips out of middle. Perhaps she goes back while giving Singletary and Buntin time to develop. That would open hitter positions to Skinner, Parra, Hawahaha, and allow Byrd and others to develop. Just wondering if Parra, Hawaha or others are better than the incoming. Realizing O’Neal, Eggleston, Fleck, and others only have a handful (or few more) games left before this discussion REALLY gets serious.
