2022-2023 Season

#32 looks a lot like a freshman from last year who transferred out: very talented, but in great need of getting physically stronger.

Edit: I recognize the two players in question do not play the same position etc., but the deficiencies from a college level strength perspective stand out in both.

I think I'm hearing some concern coming from the crowd about this team. Understandable as we're now a sickly 4-4 and dropped out of the top 25. Last year at the 8 game point we were 7-1 and in Vic's first year we were also 7-1. We expect to be at the same or better.

I think the team still needs more time to gel and the clock was essentially stopped for 2 weeks with Rori out and the team went 1-3.

Looking back at Vic's teams and the large transition and integration needed each year. I went back and looked at the top 6 players in terms of minutes for each of Vic's years so far.

Year 1, everyone was new to Vic and his system.
Year 2, only JAT and Audrey were around who knew the way Vic liked his defense to play
Year 3, essentially starting over from scratch. Yes, there are returners in Gaston and Harmon but look how far down they are in terms of minutes played so far.

Gotta give them some more time. Yeah, we're not in the top 25 glamour spot. Whatever. If we start losing to TCU or Tech and we're deep in our regular season, then yeah it's doom and gloom time.

Love the team, love Vic. Great chart. I am a little concerned that at this time we do not have a dominant player on the floor that needs to be double teamed by the opponent. I think Vic will run the offense through the player who is on fire during a particular game.

I agree and I think we've been falling a bit short in sticking to whatever plan exploits a favorable matchup. I believe we'll get there, it's just a matter of time. I'm already seeing some improvement.

When the replay showed AMO's injury happened on the push off as she was going up, I feared it would be an ACL. This confirms it:

This is just such a huge loss for the team especially since it seems Jones is injury prone. Come on DeYona and Hadi, play your little hearts out!:bevo:

In a couple of weeks, we're going to have AMO, Jordana and Gisella all on the bench with the same injuries, supporting their team the best way they can. Not sure I ever remember that happening before?

The loss of Aaliyah Moore compounds what was already a shaky season. There are still things to be salvaged this season even IF they don't come in the form of championships. We still have the potential to be a really solid team especially if we can shore up the defense and turnovers, and be really good on the boards and at the free throw line. The details are even more important now.

I feel A-Mo was going to be the most consistently favorable matchup for us as the season progressed. Losing her may affect the level of our full potential, but at least it's still early enough in the season where team identity hasn't been fully established... we would have been heavily reliant on her as the season progressed. We still have time to try and figure it out, and I believe Vic will get every ounce of whatever roster he has. I'm perfectly okay with that.

A-Mo may be eligible for a redshirt this season. That could potentially give her another season of eligibility with us.

I was wondering about that.

Certainly could be wrong, but I still expect Taylor to play quite a bit this year. When available she was a beast inside. Jones, Gaston, Faye, and Muhammad are a pretty formidable front line most teams would be extremely happy to roll out. Also, I can see Hadi and Amina improving dramatically during the year.

From what I found, the redshirt rules state that the player's injury must be deemed "season-ending," must occur before the midpoint of the season, and the injured player cannot have played more than 30% of the team's total number of games. Games played in postseason tournaments, such as a conference tournament or the NCAA or NIT tournaments, count among the team’s total games played. Being that A-Mo played in 9 of 31 scheduled games (not including B12 tourney or post season) she should be good for a medical redshirt.

IMO she has always exuded nothing but class. There's a bright future ahead of her on and/or off the court.
That was my opinion as well. She just had such a pleasant and sweet attitude. And I thought she had the potential to be the best post player in the conference.

Kyndall Hunter has resurfaced on Instagram (it sounds like she was hacked or something for quite awhile and was glad to get it back). She also posted a Texas basketball related video of herself talking about Austin and the basketball program and being a player. Don’t know what this means but I hope it’s positive news for her well being.

I view this as a very positive development. Vic's original statement on Kyndall was that she was not available due to a family situation. The various posts on her tiktok account over the last couple of months make one think that she has been dealing with a break-up issue with a boyfriend, had some depression issues with this, and has taken time off to deal with it. Maybe her IG story today is her getting ready to come out of it and move on with her life. Here's the tiktok feed for those who are better at reading tea leaves than me: https://www.tiktok.com/@kynnkyn?lang=en
Comparing her post today with what she's been posting on tiktok is like night and day. Come on back Kyndall. Your fans are ready for you!

So, she fell off the face of the earth because of depression related to a breakup? If so, she's more fragile than I would have ever thought. I sure hope she's been getting help to learn skills to prepare her for the real trials and tribulations life can throw at her and will claw herself out of the dark.

Vic's media conference today.

Unfortunately Taylor remains out for this weekend's game against USC.

Just as I figured regarding the minimized minutes for Holle and Mwenentanda against JSU. I think the rotation of our perimeter players kind of already is what it is, and that does include Shae and Jak. However right now the focus is getting the current rotation of post players in sync with one another, so that's where the minutes are going for the time being. I'm sure hoping Jones can get back in there soon. But I can tell you from experience that a lower back injury is difficult to overcome, especially for us tall people, and those things tend to be recurring without ever fully going away.

As many have stated this is a team in progress - unfortunately we are working to get better on issues that could have been dealt with earlier, but injuries and a tough early schedule has bit on the backside - working on line ups and chemistry is very difficult once you have played several games - especially in the confidence area - when you have gone through the off season and fall practices with potential line ups and what ifs - then the plan gets blown up by injuries and such - it will take time to regroup

I think we are now starting to see improvement and we are winning - it might not be the prettiest, but we are winning - that will go a long way to long term improvement - Vic is a great coach and I feel the team really does want to get the ship corrected - even with the adversity they are facing, I still think we will be a team to reckon with by mid January

Today's presser. Gotta love Vic. Among his quotes: "if I had LSU's nonconference schedule, we'd be undefeated and ranked #2 in the country right now."
