2022-2023 Season

Texas down to No. 22 in latest rankings. I actually didn't think we'd be ranked with 3 losses, but this is more where we should be at this stage of the season.

Although I think it's ridiculous that others are ranked ahead of us and lost to teams ranked significantly lower than the teams we lost by single digits to, I still think we're where we should be judging by the way we've played. That's okay let those other B12 teams sit right there... it'll give us something to prove (or not).

Texas at #22 and Tennessee dropped from rankings... two teams that NOBODY will look forward to playing against later in the season.

So thursday I’ll get my first look at Moody. Driving down for Creighton men’s game. Wish it was to see women’s game but beggars can’t be choosers. Invited by a BMD and can’t stay Friday for volleyball or women’s games. At least can see directly what Moody is all about. So can relate when watch women’s games in future.

It seems like Vic is putting the freshman out there much more than the previous 2 seasons. IIRC, Jak was in the last media availability.

I still say that their development (freshmen) will play a significant role in this season's outcome. Putting them in front of the media can only help facilitate that development from a psychological standpoint.

Someone mentioned hoping we'd get to a point where we could ease freshmen in. Not sure that can be a guarantee. Team composition is much more dynamic than it used to be.

We are 1 and 4 against teams with winning records so far this season. With or without certain starters, we still should have been able to beat Marquette and USF. This is new territory for Vic. Below are his teams' records over the last 10 seasons for the first 7 games. I've got confidence that he'll figure out how to get it fixed this season. I'm just pointing out that this definitely isn't the norm. We've got an uphill climb to make.

2022: 3-4
2021: 6-1
2020: 6-1
2019: 7-0
2018: 7-0
2017: 7-0
2016: 7-0
2015: 6-1 (ironically, only loss was @ Texas 53-47)
2014: 7-0
2013: 7-0

Good info here... it's been a rough start for us playing high-level competition (for the most part) so early while trying to develop chemistry with the old and new puzzle pieces. I also feel like we'll eventually get it right but, as you said, it's definitely a hill to climb. I'm a bit concerned at this point but not to the point where I need to be talked off the ledge. Not yet anyway. :(

Yea...... 1st I apologize but yea Vic gonna have to adjust because it seem like he contradicting himself. Earlier in the season he stated we may have to put score people but it like the pieces aren’t being put in the right puzzle to score. Defensively we are just a mess right now. I think he needs to shoulder some of that blame. If they aren’t cutting it in the full court press adjust/tweak so we can find some type of way to get stops. I guess everybody is noticing what I didn’t wanna say since UConn which is Morris. I think year today year you have to adjust to what you have and after 7 games we don’t know what we have. Every single game it has been a different story and that screams consistentity. It’s almost like a replay of what the men went through last year. They was preseason ranked and highly touted transfers, and none of that mattered and they had to grind. I’m nowhere near jumping ship but just wanna see development. I don’t think it’s effort issue or togetherness it’s just something ain’t right right now and it’s showing. So with everything going south where do Vic and the ladies start?

I would like to see us stop pressing full court the entire time, and focus on getting back and locking down in the half court with outstanding team defense. Right now our poor transition D is killing us!

No Tennessee, Texas or Louisville in the Top 25 this week. Yet all three will be teams nobody wants to face in the NCAA’s I’m betting.

Yep, bet on that. The Lady Vol faithful are probably the only fans in the nation that are more disappointed than we are right now... and rightfully so.

Having seen or read about 8 games, my perception of this team sure has changed. Not going to cover or comment on a lot of what everyone has been discussing. However, I will say most of the deficiencies will be “managed” somehow and the team will be hard to play against later. But…..the major thing I’m worried about is Jones. We’ve discussed her injury history in off season but was hopeful the future would be better. Shoulder, leg, back, and stress reaction on some body part? this season…concerns me A LOT. Some players bodies are just susceptible to injury. Jones appears to be one of those. Her many High School and college injuries are facts, not opinions. It’s a depressing situation for the player and they desperately want to be healthy and playing. Ebo left and I thought Jones was a nice upgrade. She is. But not when not playing. This team is sorely deficient inside without Jones. The team’s improvement is severely limited if she is in and out of the lineup. Schaefer will need to recruit a big this next cycle to cover that if Jones can’t be counted on. Boutilier is not it, as she hasn’t played a single game in high school for Flower Mound this fall. And has always seen as a couple or more years of development. So I can be convinced otherwise if Jones gets back in a few weeks and can show she can stay on the court. Right now, that possibility is iffy.

We fell out of the polls today, but there is a silver lining. Despite crapping in our pants so far this season, we're #38 in the NCAA's first Net rankings that were released today. That bodes well if we can take care of business and keep winning. Won't be able to afford many losses in conference though.
NCAA Statistics

If you check out this chart, notice how despicable Darth Mulkey's scheduling is. The so-called 5th ranked team has an average opponent net ranking of 324! By comparison, UCONN's avg. opp. net is 4. Ours is 52. The high school team we just beat (Southern) has an avg. opp. net of 6. Kuddos to them for challenging themselves. What is Kimmy afraid of?

Mulkey has always had a pitiful schedule.

Yea I remember watching a game a few years ago and the announcers are gushing about how she got to a certain number of wins faster than any other coach and all I could think of was how embarrassingly cheap of her.

And now, Mr. Bracketology has us as First Four Out! That ain't no good!!
It's laughable to even have "bracketology" before February. I'm going to predict we'll be hosting 1st & 2nd rounds. I hope the team doesn't prove me wrong.

We can shoot free throws and that is a good thing when the refs decide to call the games tighter. Our 3 point shooting needs to improve. Gaston needs to shoot more from the paint. It is hard to know why we are having so much trouble against decent teams. We have a plan every time we go on offense and defense so the positioning seems to be good and thought out. Alot of it will depend upon freshman 14 and 32. They need to grow into college ball as we need them to be a force on the floor.
