2022-2023 Season

Since we likely won't get a schedule for 3 weeks, we'll have to continue to piece one together using everyone's detective work. I think this is what we have so far???:
Nov 14 @ UCONN
Nov 19, 20 & 21: Battle 4 Atlantis (3 games guaranteed)
Dec 18 USC @ Dallas
Dec 28 A&M Commerce

Am I missing any?
You got it right. I'll add those we've eliminated as possible non-conference opponents.

Nov 14 @ UCONN
Nov 19, 20 & 21: Battle 4 Atlantis (3 games guaranteed)
Dec 18 USC @ Dallas
Dec 28 A&M Commerce

Not playing:
Texas A&M
Tennessee (unless in Bahamas)
Arizona
LSU
Miss. State

The only one game I’ll guarantee going to is USC in Dallas. I’ll also guarantee NOT going to Storrs and Atlantis…….and the games we’re NOT playing. That leaves me with ONLY A&M- Commerce to make a decision on. Sad right now.

I’m sure people will be disappointed and complain about the schedule (there’s just some games I can’t bring myself to drive in from Dallas for) but I think we all know Vic is right there with us. AND if Stanford and Tennessee no longer want to schedule us with the resurgence of the Texas program, a pox on them!

I'm kind of wondering if, in addition to teams supposedly not wanting to face our defense, perhaps there's a silent alliance among some "select" top teams who are refusing to play Texas as a way of creating difficulty in our building a solid SOS.

It's tough to know all that goes into arranging non-conference scheduling, why certain series aren't continued, and why potential visiting programs who will create buzz and increase tickets sales aren't pursued or say "no thanks".

Obviously, we'll be joining the SEC in a couple of years. So, non-conference series with South Carolina, Tennessee, A&M, etc. will no longer be options. Is he gonna try to schedule non-conference games against former Big 12 schools like Baylor, Tech, or TCU? Personally, I hope not (although they would be better than other in-state options; playing TCU would be my preference for the exposure in the metroplex). Then again, we're playing USC in Dallas this year, so there are other ways to make games in Houston and Dallas happen.

Does Vic want to head out West, North, or East for non-conference home and away series? USC and UCLA would be options I'd pursue, especially once they join the B1G

I'm hoping ESPN will step in and push for an ACC/SEC challenge; that would give us maybe an annual game against Louisville, Notre Dame, North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Florida State, etc.

I really do like that Vic got us into that Bahamas tourney. Even though those games aren't in Austin, they will help our SOS (which I guess is equally as important).

I'd love to see Vic get a series going with NC State or UNC (or both).

Overall, this is really good news for the sport. Wish it were in primetime, but it is a step in the right direction. I just hope we make it to Dallas to play and win two games in front of a partisan Longhorn crowd!

Yeah, our home non-conference schedule is probably going to be similar to last season's. Hopefully, Princeton comes to Austin this season. I have to believe South Florida still owes us a game from when Aston's team played in Tampa a few years ago. That's the best I can hope for, I guess.

Been reading that at most events at Moody, a self-service beer is $17 and the kiosk checkout defaults to include a 20% tip (unless you are smart enough to input $0)!
Nailed it!

South Florida coming to Austin on Friday, December 2nd!

2022-23 Women's Basketball Schedule - USF Athletics (gousfbulls.com)

The only thing that sucks is that the women's volleyball team will most likely be hosting a first or second round NCAA tournament match that night at Gregory.

The department is usually quite good at avoiding schedules where one women's team game conflicts with another. I'd not be at all surprised to see the basketball game begin 2.5 hours before the vb match, if indeed they are both contested on the same day.

Ayoka Lee will have season ending knee surgery but will return for the 2023/2024 season

K-State’s Lee to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery; Set to Return for 2023-24 - Kansas State University Athletics

Lee missing the season is a big blow to K-State. From reading the article, this sounds like a nagging, chronic injury. Hopefully the surgery will be successful so that she can return to playing with the team next season and can possibly continue her career in the WNBA.

Makes teams with good dribble-drive players, e.g. Rori and Shaylee, much more difficult for KSU.

Naw kState season isn’t over derailed a bit but no over. The coach got in the road and addressed his weakness which was quickness and true guards. Now Lee was set to be a vital part of it but kicker is they have a whole preseason to figure out how to play w/o her instead it happening during. This wildcat team will push to be top 4 in big12. They are long although now they have to figure out the 5 but 1-4 they are solid and they added 2 good guards from desoto 7 D1 class of 22.

That's too bad about Ayoka.

Both Lee and Bueckers will have the option to opt for the WNBA draft next April, or return to college for the 2022-23 season.

They had another giant last year that backed up Lee... not sure if she returns this season or not. If so she's probably improved so they still have good size in the middle.

6' 7" junior Taylor Lauterbach. While she certainly has the length, she did not seem nearly as fluid/mobile as Lee and was not good on offense. In limited minutes, she shot 30.9% from the floor (17/55) vs Lee's 56.3% - she was better as a freshman (43.2%). She could have worked on that aspect of her game but the step down from Ayoka is considerable.

The ladies said on instagram that our first game of the season is against UConn. I thought we would play them maybe the 2nd or 3rd game but to play them the first game is going to be a tough but beneficial challenge.

Doesn't seem realistic that our first game of the season is November 14 at UConn, while everyone else is playing a game or two starting November 7/8. Surely we're playing a game in our new arena the first week of the season, just like the men are playing (November 7 & 10).
