2021 Recruiting - WBB

Aaliyah Moore started following Coach Vic on twitter today (according to how he displays at the top of her "Following" page when I view it) . . .

Moore's Aaliyah Moore named The Transcript's Girls Basketball Player of the Year

Aaliyah Moore’s game has become increasingly difficult to describe over the years.

The 6-foot-3 junior has built a skillset beyond that of a traditional forward.

“I think our game has become so positionless in the last decade,” Moore coach Brent Hodges said. “You see it as a trend in all of basketball and that's the thing, she's kind of a positionless player.”

The towering Moore can post up and make plays at the rim. But she can also bring the ball up the floor, find her teammates and let them score. She can serve as a rim protector but athletic enough to play various roles on defense.

Her versatility is a luxury for the Moore Lions, a program that made the state tournament for the first time since 1998 this past season with Aaliyah as its catalyst. And for her stellar junior campaign, Aaliyah Moore is The Transcript’s Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

The junior, who averaged 21.7 points and 11.1 rebounds . . .

Other than Tina Thompson, none of the recent Texas coaches were really all that active on social media so I don’t know if this level of activity is something we just need to acclimate to or if it means something but...

From what I’ve experienced and observed, they’ve already interacted more with fans on social media, in what, 20 days, than the preceding staff seemed to do in eight years. The fans are starving to sense an ownership in this program again, and they seem to be delivering. Love the legacy tweet by Lovato. Referring to Paige Bradley . . . and maybe someone additional? HookEm!

So much for all those who claimed it was impossible to add more than 15 scholarship players to the lineup. It will take a few more months before we know for certain what the 2020 & 2021 rosters will look like. Such is the nature of a coaching change.

I would say there’s a better than average chance Moore is coming. My sources have told me that she was VERY close to a commitment with KA before she left. As long as Vic plays his cards right, which I’m sure he will, I would say it’s a matter of time before she commits.
It was only a matter of time . . . :D

Vic..…….will you just let me eat lunch? Or mow the yard? I take off an hour and bam……...another 5 star. I cant stand the stress of knowing another commit is coming and I am not there. I have advised my wife that I am no longer mowing the yard and just sitting in front of my computer. I think that Vic may be taking that old SEC football strategy...….think it was Saban………...to sign 35 a year on a 25 limit and see what happens. They ALWAYS ended under the 85 player squad annual limit. So Vic...….just get Fudd and a big center and several others and it all works out.

So if my math is right, that puts the projected 2021-22 roster at 16?

Seniors: Collier, Allen-Taylor, Warren, Routt, Ebo
Juniors: C. Taylor, Ortiz, Palmer
Soph: Chevalier, Gaston, Holle, Coleman, Johnson
Frosh: Harmon, Moore, Bradley

Can we all just take the time to give Vic & his staff a huge round of applause! They have really come out the gates swinging & not only has the big 12 but the entire country has been put on notice!:hookem:

I don't know when exactly these hoopsters started joining summer club teams which weren't in their own cities/states, but have to say that Aaliyah spending a lot of time in the state of Texas (and in the Houston area for practice, I assume) and hanging out with players from the state of Texas had to have helped her envision herself playing her college ball in the state of Texas, and lucky for us, at the University of Texas.

It depends who is doing the projecting. Obviously, the new staff knows more about the roster makeup than us bean counters.

A few years ago my niece played on a travel softball squad that never practiced together. The team was based out of Austin but my niece and 2 teammates were from Amarillo, 2 others were from Oklahoma and 1 girl was from Louisiana. No way that works in basketball if you want to be successful - parents spending a lot on gas/hotels just to get to practice.
