Highly ranked players is the type of recruit I expected Coach White to get commitments from. But it is a big class. Only 6 juniors that are expected to graduate?

I look at some of the freshmen who are put in at pinch runner and wonder how happy they are waiting 1-2 years to get their shot. i.e. is Mike White factoring in transfers out?

I go with the theory that he's just going to constant get the best and see if freshmen beat out sophmores for the vacated positions, so be it. I don't have the knowledge of how his recruiting classes went at Oregon to understand his philosophy.

However, I will say that it's better than Connie's method where who you had was who you were stuck with for a while.

At Oregon MW always carried right around 20. I'm sure being in a hot bed like Texas you will get a couple more. The big reason for extra recruits is the sophomore class only has 3 O'leary, Parker, and Sullivan. Who knows what will change by signing day, softball is becoming more and more like football and basketball. I kind of like it though.

I didn't see anything out on twitter about Peralta's commitment, but her Instagram account shows that she is a Texas verbal commitment (it's a private account, so I didn't see/read any other details).

If anyone has not seen it this is the PGF national championships last year in which Texas commit Sophia Simpson pitched in. Her change-up is one of the best I have seen.

I've seen Sophia pitch locally, she throws pretty hard too and that change up is filthy. Can't wait to see what mike white can get out of her, as some untapped potential for sure.

That will leave us with 7 pitchers on the roster. Someone has to be transferring which may be the reason Mike White got her. I expect to hear an announcement of someone leaving very soon because there is just no way we have 7 pitchers on the roster.

She was listed as a senior on the ole miss roster. I thought one of the rules for seniors who got eligibility back was that you are not allowed to transfer to another school? Can someone explain this situation to me.
Got this from another board:

Seniors entering the portal: NCAA has ruled that any senior that enters the portal to transfer for their senior year, they will not be exempt from the scholarship limit. So a senior transferring must go to a program that has scholarship money and fit within their 12 scholarship limit.

Also, seniors that return for their 5th year, their scholarship can be reduced with no appeal, and it cannot be increased from their 2020 level.

So she would have to get a scholarship then which I don't think she will get considering we have a 24 person roster next season. The only other option is that she will be paying out of pocket at Texas. Lol I will leave the math and all that to the coaching staff. As long as everything works out then you will get no complaints from me. Welcome to Texas Molly!!!

Like you said in an earlier post, we will probably have a couple of players/pitchers transfer out of the program; and, that might free up some funds for Molly.

JJ,

You really shoudl have put this news in the 2020 Softball Recruiting thread as Molly will be part of the 2020-21 roster. Just sayin' . . .

Very confusing. I can't even guess what went on until the other shoe drops - the expected transfers out of the portal or.....maybe some (future) players won't be showing up this Fall to school?
