2021 Coaching Carousel

Nikki Collen announced her 1st hire for assistant coach: Tari Cummings. Most recently the head coach at Arkansas-Fort Smith - coached both guards and posts in her previous assistant coach positions.

I've seen the name Dennis Colwell on the staff directory during Karen's tenure and now with Vic. Who is he and what does he do? His job title is Administrative Associate but that could mean just about anything. Has anyone ever seen him?

That's why I mentioned Blair yesterday. When she was hired, her job title was Director of Player Development but I've heard her describe what she did last season (arranging travel and meals, working with MBB to develop practice schedules, etc.) and most of it sounded like a DBO's responsibilities. She may have just been pulling double duty but now she officially has the DBO title. Not being that familiar with the distinction between Coordinator of Player Development and Director of Player Development, it's hard for me to guess what kind of experience/resume is required.
According to texassports.com her bio says she's in her first year at Texas as Director of Basketball Ops. It's all a bit confusing...

Dennis has been there many years. He's an admin person who works in coaches area. Not really affiliated with anything on court. Usually the first person to greet you if you ever go to the coaches offices.

I hate to keep going back to Nneka because I really want that to happen. I just don't want to be disappointed.
Anyway, she posted on FB today "After five years on the west coast, I'm officially back home." She has a location pin with Austin, TX. People in the comments are asking her questions about whether she is joining the Texas staff, with no responses of course.

Well, Nneka finally commented on her post that she is not joining the Texas staff. She has stepped away from college coaching to pursue another journey. Boo!

This just seems a bit fishy. She didn't deny that she was joining the Texas staff, just kept quiet and then announces she's stepping away from college coaching? If her original intent had been on taking a break from basketball, she could've announced that from jump.

Just thinking out loud:

- Texas still looking for one assistant coach
- Baylor still looking for two assistant coaches (one left for LSU; one hired from Ark. St.)
- A&M still looking for two assistant coaches (left for Auburn and OU)
- Arkansas still looking for one assistant coach (left four OU)
- LSU still looking for two assistant coaches (one hired from Baylor)

I didn't realize there were so many openings at top-of-the-line programs within Texas or that share a border with Texas. It could explain why it's taking so long to fill Johnnie's spot.

Not technically a coach but Baylor just announced Sophia Young-Malcolm as Assistant AD for Player Development.

She fits right in with the archaic bigotry and hatred perpetuated at Baylor against the LGBTQ community.....in other words, she’s a self avowed out in the open bigot!!!

I am shocked that Baylor did not rehire Brock and Messer. Money talks and helps them get over not getting head job. Messer is going to LSU I think. New staff is pretty average for a to 3 program.

I really liked Sophia as a player, but I cannot respect anyone who speaks out against the rights of others... regardless of whether those rights apply to me or not. What is particularly disturbing about her comments is that they addressed a fight in which she has no dog. It reeks of hatred and with that, YES, she fits right in at Baylor. Any backlash that she got previously, or any negativity that the Baylor program receives by hiring an outspoken bigot, will be well-deserved.

And might I add that by DISAGREEING you have revealed your own bigotry and intolerance..... Perhaps cheering for a school that OPENLY shows their unadulterated hate towards the LGBTQ community would better suit you two as well!!!

Arkansas just announced the hiring of Lacey Goldwire as an assistant coach. So their vacancy has been filled.

Sytia Messer was with KM at the HOF induction, along with KM's family and the two staff members that immediately left with her for LSU. It may be that Messer follows along to Baton Rouge after all.

Ehhh, I'm good on that idea. I 100% trust Vic but that doesn't mean we can't have a little worry as to why it's taking so long.
I trust Vic all the way, too. I'm not necessarily worried about who he hires, but really just anxious to see who it is.

This is a discussion board. I think we're allowed to discuss how long this hire is taking compared to others at Texas and nationally.
I never said not to discuss it.

I'm just pointing out every ounce of energy collectively spent here typing, discussing, hand-wringing, worrying, speculating, moaning, complaining, etc. will not change the timeline nor the outcome of the coaching search one tiny bit. So maybe being collectively more relaxed wouldn't be a bad approach.

Aggy filled their assistant coaching position (posts), Greg Brown, to replace Bob Starkey who left to join Johnnie's staff at Auburn.

I was looking at the twitter activity on the camp announcement to see what recruits were 'liking' and noticed it was retweeted by LaMeisha Ligons. Looked her up and she's the DBO for University of Houston WBB. Is that normal? A staff member for another school retweeting a Texas WBB announcement? Possibly a candidate for the Director of Player Development job?
