2021 Coaching Carousel

If Sytia doesn’t go with Mulkey, and doesn’t get the Baylor gig, what’re the chances she could land at Texas? Not entirely sure he coaches post players, so couldn’t be an extreme reach.

She coaches the guards, Bill Brock coaches the posts. If the Joni Taylor-to-Baylor rumors have any truth to them, they could both be available and, considering Brock has been at Baylor for 17 years, he might not want to make as drastic a move as leaving the state.

Kuddos to brnkj for sharing the first reports that Mulkey would be headed to LSU last week. Many questioned it.

According to her son Kramer, they spoke last week and the next morning she had decided to leave Baylor. That would fall in line with about April 22. He had to keep the decision a secret.

Therefore, it would not appear the Sunday (yesterday) was decision day. I'm confident the decision was made around April 22 but the contract with LSU had to be finalized first. Only when all the i's are dotted, Sunday was the official date and Mulkey made the announcement to her team.

She told her assistants on Wednesday and evaluated who was coming and who was staying. I expect Sytia to get a look at HC, and if not they will all follow. Much like with Vic to Texas

A Baylor buddy sent this... supposedly from their premium site?

*Bill Brock is the interim head coach
*Mackenzie Fuller will not be going to LSU
*Rest of the staff will be going
*Sytia Messer will formally interview for the head coaching positon

Update 10:20pm 4/25/21

I really despised Coach Mulkey, and at the same time, she was the best coach in the Big 12 for many years. She was the pinnacle, the target. You measured your program against hers. In conference ranking discussions, and RPI?, the Big 12 was higher because of her. We are on the rise, I truly believe, but it will be a little less sweet for her absence. We're also going to have to find someone else to post about.

Hearing Bill is also getting an interview and Kim is saving a spot for Sytia in case she doesn’t get it. My money is on Sytia. Sounds like AD wants to cut budget as well.

So if they go with Sytia over Bill, does he stick around? He sure is a great post coach... probably nobody any better. Hmmmmmm.....

IF the Sea Hag goes to the SEC, and after a season of experiencing her personal charms, I'll be eagerly looking for quotes from non-LSU message boards. I think she'll be queen of the SEC within 2 years, if not the first. I also think it's their turn to enjoy the Mulkey experience.

HILARIOUS PIC...CLASSIC “SULKEY MULKEY”..

Welp. She's probably going with Jhonnie. Or another coach has gotten a head coaching job.
I was thinking, with her Juco HC experience along with her time as Vic’s assistant, maybe a mid major HC? There are certainly a few open.

So we now most likely are going to have to bring in two new coaches to replace Harris and Lovato. As seen with the men's team, assistant coaching hires are very important not only for recruiting but development wise. I trust Vic and his process but we are going to have to go and get the best of the best. Elena is an elite recruiter so we need someone stronger or similar with ties to big recruits. I'm not sure who the coaches are that are considered "elite recruiters"

I am bunmed to see Lovato go so I certainly don't intend to downplay her abilities, but there are many assistants considered to be elite recruiters. I think that is subjective depending on who you're talking to.

Is there any university rules keeping Blair from coaching? I didn’t know if there is a difference in support or coaching staff?

My concern is with incoming freshmen and recruiting targets. Head coaches are the face of the program but the assistants doing most of the recruiting are the ones who really build relationships with the players and Vic has possibly lost 2 of 3.

I'm wondering if that's what's taking so long to hire the replacement for Harris? I'm sure that Lavato told him that she's interviewed with schools and maybe he's been holding off on announcing or searching for the Harris replacement knowing he might have to hire another coach and make sure they're compatible as a staff?

Not sure which 2 of 3 you're referring to... current players, signees, targets for next year???? Assistant coaches do move around and these things sometimes happen. This is Lovato's second time leaving Vic's staff. It's the nature of the business and every head coach deals with that. One of the reasons UConn remains so consistent in their recruiting is there hasn't been too much movement on their staff... same for Baylor up until now. It will be interesting to see where Lovato's next stop is... hopefully she's getting a shot at a HC position somewhere.

2 of his 3 assistant coaches.

Jackson is the one that I’m always worried about the most this year anyway because the important recruits for this years class are the guards. Not to take anything away from Moore.
