2021 Coaching Carousel

So LSU decides to release ANOTHER announcement of Nikki Fargas' resignation after it had already previously done so... to include a Twitter post yesterday thanking her for her years at the helm AND a ticket across the screen last night during the women's volleyball championship. :e-thinking:

Check out that last paragraph of this espn article... slick recruiting move? :e-face-shades:

Fargas resigns as LSU women's hoops coach

Again, right now would be a good time to hire a post coach. You potentially might have Smith and Egbo in the portal depending on who Baylor hires.

You'd like to think the UT staff has some cards that they're holding extremely close to the chest... not a peep out of any of them on social media while the portal is heating up. As if it isn't already active enough, me thinks all hell is about to break loose.

If they hire a good coach like Taylor then fine. If they don't hire a good coach and Baylor is wandering in the wilderness like Texas has for years then I would be be fine with also.
If a bunch of girls transfer out Taylor might be better off staying in Georgia. This portal is probably gonna make some average teams great and some great teams average literally overnight.

No offense to Joni Taylor, but she hasn't accomplished much yet at Georgia; she did earn a #3 seed for this season's tourney, but was upset by #6 seed Oregon in the round of 32. I just don't see Baylor "settling" for her. Then again, I didn't think OU would "settle" for the head coach from Drake. Both programs have been paying their tenured head coaches Top 10 national salary for over a a decade.

Absolutely, but she may be able to replace them with other quality transfers. The game has changed overnight with the new transfer rules.

BU would have to double maybe triple Joni’s salary for her to leave UGA. Thats feasable seeing as she only makes $550,000 now. But I think BU takes this chance to do some belt tightening and find a quality coach who views BU as an upgrade. The Missouri state coach is a winner, I expect her to get a call

Good point because they are cash strapped.

I'll try and adjust my sarcasm meter here for just a second, but pity the coach that follows KM. The pink slip has been printed and is just waiting to be handed to them. It doesn't matter the sport, following someone who has had that sort of success is a career killer.

I'm not sure how I feel yet about Mulkey bolting (as far as how it affects Texas and our conference).

But, for the short term, I can't help but have a wicked smile on my face based on how cocky and arrogant Baylor fans have been acting all these years based on getting a large taste of success (probably their first in any sport). They NEVER imagined Mulkey would leave them because "she loves Baylor". It's one thing if she had left for UConn or Tennessee or Stanford. But for LSU (the program she upset in the Final Four on her way to winning Baylor's first national title)? In the end, Mulkey loves Mulkey; nothing wrong with that.

Look what's happened to Tennessee after the Summitt era. I won't compare us to that, level of success in our best years, but even we've had trouble finding the right coach. Jeff Walz is the only "sure thing" as far as a winning head coach at the highest level that's out there; maybe Brenda Frese. It's just about whether or not they want to make Waco their home; they would get a sizeable raise if they decided to coach at Baylor. Louisville for sure was having financial issues, and asked Walz to take a pay cut this past year.

Goes to show that nothing matters... LSU is under a huge cloud of corruption and she's triumphantly returning home. The apparent force field around the big programs is so thick the coaches don't even give a S because they don't have to.

Losing a successful Hall of Fame Coach still in her prime couldn’t have happened to a more deserving fan base if you ask me. Still, I preferred her to stick around so we could watch Vic become the new sheriff in town (her words).

Agree. This "shortcut" to the B12 title is somehow very unsatisfactory. Always believed you have to beat the best to be the best. Doesn't do the league any favors either.

Definitely means bumping up the nonconference strength of schedule.

I said this to a friend and BU grad yesterday. I feel as though we have been cheated out of a “rite of passage” so to speak.

Hopefully this will open the door to a reoccurring series with LSU as I am sure Kim still wants to prove she has Texas’ number even in a new conference. Since the schedule shakeup due to the covid year, I’d like to see us go to Tenn, UConn, Stanford and now maybe LSU or Maryland/UCLA and have all 4 come to Austin in the inaugural Moody Center season (22-23)

It is what it is. Kim dominated and nobody can ever take that away from her. She is locked in greatness as far as results are concerned. She defeated the University of Texas. But this program has been struggling for a long time if we aspire to Jody's standards. Kim wasn't the only problem.

John Wooden retired as the undisputed champion. It doesn't mar Bobby Knights or Duke's coach (too lazy to Google how to spell his name) records. If the new coach wins Big 12 titles, then we'll see Kim down the road and we'll have the chance to square things up.
