2021-2022 Season

Are you ready to run thru a brick wall after seeing this vid? I was, until I laid down and eventually it passed.

Vic Schaefer interviewed on LHN during the volleyball intermission tonight.

He said we will have more offensive firepower this season. That's a surprise comment after losing Collier and Celeste.

Vic is doing an interview at the volleyball game and he said Rori Harmon & Aaliyah Moore are two players who have really stood out. He had good things to say about everyone but I think Rori will be our starting PG. Can't wait until the season starts!!

I think it’s a result of the scoring potential of the guards. If we consider Celeste a wing player, the only consistent scoring threat at guard last season was Joanne - Kyra came on late in the season.

I basically agree with what you are saying, but more specifically, it's the result of better recruiting. Karen had some great recruiting classes, but the magic was lost in her later years.

George Washington told me that Jo and Audrey were "developmental" players, and that played out as accurate in that they blossomed in their 3rd year.

The Harmon's and Moore's are simply more college ready in Year 1.

The interview was great. He seems to REALLY like his team. Perhaps it was the way the question was asked, but he once again went over the virtues of Harmon, Moore and Hunter. Mentioned all his new players plus Warren and Allen-Taylor. The ones not mentioned.....would make me work harder to be mentioned next question. He is so energetic and optimistic, the interview went on into third set play. But I wasn’t wanting him to stop. This may be the LONGEST month until first game.

I am also excited about the upcoming season. I have to wonder though about Ashley. I think she proved herself last season and I was expecting that she would be our starting point guard, at least in the early games. Is Rori that good, or could this be a case of "not my recruit"?

Three or four games into the season, we'll have a good sense of who the best players are at each position. I'm just encouraged that there are multiple options this year and the competition for playing time is intense.

The "not my recruit" suggestion is odd in view of the role Jo and Audrey will have.

Does anyone have intel on how/when to get tickets for the AZ game in Vegas? Tickets to the Men’s game against Stanford are on sale but I’m not seeing anything for the women’s game that follows.

Nevermind, just one ticket required for both games

Is DeYona Gaston the most "forgotten" Longhorn player in your mind?

Obviously, we're all anxious to see the newcomers perform. And, we expect the upperclassmen to be solid (as 3 seniors could be starters) and provide vital leadership.

But, Gaston getting injured halfway through her freshman season obviously pushed her to the backburner, and our attention as fans was on those players who were seeing the court and helping us reach the Elite 8.

We got a glimpse last Fall of what a healthy Gaston can do on the court; I was impressed by her play as a true freshman; she was able to contribute on both ends of the court. So, a healthy Gaston (fingers crossed) will make us a better team in the front court where everyone will have to pitch in to make up for Collier's lost output. Hoping we'll be talking about her a lot all season long.

Key word being "healthy". Like you, I was very impressed with Gaston's play prior to the injury. Thank God it wasn't an ACL, an achilles, or something else really devastating, and was "just" a stress fracture. Gaston will have to overcome not only the physical rehab, but also the mental side of truly believing she is healthy in order to play fearlessly. I hope we get to see her at 100% all season, but I am prepared to see her going through the process of getting there, and being less effective than we remember as she does so.

The nagging injuries are the biggest concern I have with DeYona as they persisted her junior & senior seasons in high school as well. She was 2nd on the team in blocked shots with just 11 games played and her blocks per minute were 3X higher than Charli’s.

I usually don't like pre-season awards for any position because it's all a theoretical beauty contest. So good for Moore, but for some reason I thought the most valuable newcomer for Texas would be Rori Harmon? Maybe as our PG goes, so does the team?

My guess is that voters (coaches?) simply look at the freshman who had the highest individual ranking among those who joined the conference; and, that's how they gauge their vote. They don't bother to look at team depth charts, and who is most likely to be in the starting lineup and play significant minutes.

I was going to say that perhaps Moore got FOY over Rori because the need is greater in the front court. Now, I agree with DFW. I don't understand these awards.

Yeah, this makes no sense.
