2020 Softball Season

I do think many polllsters keep tabs on who teams lose in the offseason, and who the gain. OSU lost Show, and Texas did not lose their key pitcher (who is now a senior).

Louisiana brought in a bunch of transfers from Mizzou and Oregon, including stud pitcher Megan Kleist.

Louisiana (I wish people would be more consistent because I keep thinking it's two separate schools)
i get wanting to be known as the University of Louisiana instead of ULaLa, but what about UL-Monroe? I guess ULaLa ponyed-up more money (it is Louisiana after all).

Lots of veteran players. We should make a run this year. May not beat OU, but should be a player for the WCWS again.
I think Texas has what it takes to beat Oklahoma. They lost key players and we lost none. Remember last season the first two games were very close against Oklahoma & literally came down to the last innings so its not like we don't have the talent because we definitely do it's really just a mental thing but I personally think we have all the pieces needed to beat them

I don't disagree. We're close. We've got two proven pitchers, they have one.
My personal opinion was that last year's weaknesses were: catcher, third, and short stop. So many errors committed in those 3 positions. The good news is that Fall ball showed that catcher and third will be manned by different players. Shortstop.....ehhh, I hope one of the freshmen surprises Mike and wins the spot. Too many errors last year. Excited that we're hosting 3 separate tournaments at McCombs - many chances for multiple players to play and get evaluated before we meet OU.

While we all want (immediate) success, it doesn't always come on our time-table. Yes, OU is the standard in the Big 12; and, their success nationally is consistent.

We have one year of experience under Coach White at Texas; and, more senior starters this second season. But, winning at OU won't be easy. I would be happy just taking one game in Norman; expecting to win the series is a lot to expect in year two.

OU just has more depth than we do across the board. And, they have so many big hitters year in and year out. Even when their pitcher(s) has an off-game, they can still typically outscore their opponents due to a potent offense. Our offense, under a new hitting coach, has to perform better than it did last year in conference season.

In all honesty, I just want this team to finish no worse than second (OSU and Tech are also programs on the upswing), and to make it the WCWS. If a win over OU during the regular season or Big 12 tournament is included, that's a bonus to me as we work to narrow the talent gap, and post-season experience, that OU has over us.

Sullivan really impressed me when I watched them during fall ball at catcher. Also Ellsworth... I think Iakopo's problem were her errors and she could not take down lead runners to save her life so I think Texas is really solid in that position. In terms of shortstop if not one of the freshmen then I think slack should get it but we will see. Texas really has depth which is something we lacked last season and offensively it's so many weapons that the lineup should be dominant every game

IF we can host super regionals. Of course, that didn't work out for the volleyball team.
:(
Volleyball had same major flaws with some of their veteran players. Poor back row play, terrible serving issues. That is what cost them a chance at the final four, and will continue until Elliott fixes the problem with better servers and subbing net players with good back row players ( if he can recruit any ). Our softball team is pretty solid.

Also, Softball America has Jenae and Mary listed as second team all American. Jenae? Yes, I understand. But Mary's moving from catcher to 3rd, which makes me believe that it's all reputation and not reality in these pre-season beauty pageants.

Do you know what these are based off of? I was highly shocked to not see elish or o'Leary not on the list and I also saw rachel garcia of UCLA was not on the list so I really was confused by that

Nope. SA has Oregon as 25th in their top 25 list! It's just respect for the brand.

I believe Miranda Elish is the heart and soul of this team and the face of Mike's program, not unlike Cat O. was for Clark. I also believe her to be an All American
in every sense of the label. However I can also see where her 10 losses (I think she was 18-10) might prevent some voters from listing her with the elite pitchers in the country. In the end it really doesn't matter. What matters is she can carry this team on her back, and gives Texas the best chance to win a championship we've had in years. Just my two cents.

Last night the Softball team was at the Erwin Center to sign autographs before the WBB game against Baylor [I do NOT want to talk about it!]

We arrived barely in time for the game and I thought the team would have left by then, but there they were, along the wall at two tables willing to sign more posters if people wanted.

General observations:
1) Odd seeing all these young women with their "hair down", literally their hair not in braids
2) I hate to say it, but a lot of them look alike - young, white, brunette
2b) Really, we're use to seeing them with visors or a helmet and their jerseys to help us quickly identify who they are
3) Except a handful that are of color or blonde
4) Large table that mostly held freshman/sophmores, and then a shorter table that had the "Clique" - Elish & company.

And then later, we walked past some of the volleyball players in their "civilian clothes". Yeah, all were way taller except Jhenna Gabriel. :)

Lol which volleyball players did you see?

This will be very exciting! She is a great pitcher so I would like to see how she does against the Texas lineup. Still wish she would have picked Texas but hookem!

This team is the real deal!! It's still early in the season but the offense is looking great. Steve singleton was a great hire and it's really showing.

That was an impressive steamroller job over a couple of less-than-stellar opponents.
Yes and No. Witchita State went 32-24 last year. That was their second game of the day. I didn't know if they put their best pitcher in the first or second game. Looking at last year's stats, their first (game) pitcher went 1-2. Their second game pitcher, against Texas went 15-12. So I guess they pitched us their best.

Maryland went 20-31, so yeah.

Looking to the weekend games and their 2019 record:
Lamar: 23-34
Colorado State: 30-12 (oh!)
Texas A&M Corpus Christi: 8-43 (eek!)

Looks like CSU had two star pitchers last year:
Hutton: 16-6
Jarecki: 15-4

Hutton graduated and Jarecki is a senior this year.
Tidbit: Tyler Trott (catcher) transferred in from Baylor this year

Then they also have freshman Danielle serna from Austin high school and I know she has a good bat and a great pitcher so I know she will be fired up to play us as mike white said. They will be a real test that I am very excited about.
