2020 Recruiting - WBB

I don't believe Myra Gordon is a PG, but maybe I'm wrong.

Not sure we'll pursue her based on other targets who have shown much more interest in our program; unless she makes it clear that UConn is not an option for her, then I wouldn't exert any effort on her if I were our coaching staff.

Davenport had 25 points for Plano in a 12 point loss to Duncanville. Apparently Merritt didn’t play as no mention in box score. Gusters had 5.

Deja's FG stats don't make sense to me. She only missed one FG (12-13) but missed two 3pters? Regardless, that some pretty impressive shooting on her part. :hookem2:Glad to see that she is just as good from the FT line.

I think they separated the 2-pt attempts from 3s.
(12 x 2) + (3 x 3) + 10 free throws = 43
Overall shooting line would be 15 / 18.

J Merritt doesn’t show up in box score for second straight game on Thursday in a blowout vs Ennius. She must be injured or ?? Davenport had 18. Gusters had 10 in each of 2 games in Duncanville big wins. Allen-Taylor has 34 in a 40 point loss to Duncanville.

Just realized that Deja and Joanne are in the same bracket (Bronze) and will play against each other if both their teams Win/Lose.

Gusters had 15 in a big win. Allen-Taylor had 34 of her team’s 41 in a big loss. Merritt didn’t show in box for the third straight game for Plano. Davenport had 20. Jones from Dallas Christian didn’t show up in box for like the 3rd or 4th game in a row.

Deja Kelly and SA Johnson defeated Joanne Allen-Taylor and Cy Falls 64-54. Will post if I can find stats for either.

BlueStar takeaways from the tournaments this past weekend:

Deja Kelly – 2020 – 5-7 – Point Guard – San Antonio Johnson – Continues to keep herself among the elite…Dynamic and attacking off the dribble…Hesitation move is lethal…Willing to share the ball (too much at times)…More active without the ball than in the past…Understands how to make herself an option off the cut…Reads on penetration could be sharper at times…Active defender

Hannah Gusters – 2020 – 6-4 – Post – Duncanville – On the radar for some time and progressing each time we see her…Impressive growth as a player and an athlete…Posting hard and holding her ground…Showing a more mature understanding on possessions she may not get a touch…Makes herself an option both from the wing and the top…Handling the extra “physical” aspect that comes with smaller opposition at times…Protecting the ball better on the rebound…Pace of advancements is measured and smart by those working with her…All up to her

Sarah Andrews – 2020 – 5-7 – Point Guard – MacArthur – Elite, hard to find point guard…Makes those around her better…Can deliver her own scoring opps or improve those of teammates in both transition and halfcourt…Off the drive threads the needle while keeping everyone guessing…Risks she takes are worth the return in the end…Form and range keep defenders honest…Step back creates plenty of separation…Deceptive strength and vertical…Could use some defensive consistency however

Is it possible that Kelly is under-rated nationally because she committed to Texas so long ago? Like it or not, publicity by being recruited by top 25 programs for years drives rankings for the players. 44 back to back is impressive, perhaps she is a 2 and not a 1 at the college level? She must have point guard skills but to me she has that scorers mentality that translates to an off-guard. Haven’t seen enough of her game to project. Regardless of position, she appears to be the real deal. Hope her team makes the playoffs so more of us can get to see her.
