2020 Recruiting - WBB

Westlake drops a thriller to Judson, 43-41 on a last second FG by Judson's 6-4 post.
Shay Holle had 19 pts on 9-12 FGs, she was the top scorer in the game.

Just got back from the Allen-Sachse game. What a game ! Allen led most of the game ……….like 99% of the time. Up 2 after first. 2 at half. 6 after 3. Sachse caught em with 6.7 seconds left on a good shot and going up one. Allen threw it in with no time out and got a shot up that badly missed. Came off funny to an Allen player who threw it up and off the backboard at the buzzer. Allen by 1. Both are big time teams that really put on a show. You have to win one of those close ones to win it all. That may be Allen's one. Feel bad for Sachse as they just wouldn't give up. Should have won. Will be interesting who they get at Regionals. Getting to Regionals sometimes is harder than getting to it. We'll see.

Games of interest............South Grand Prairie beat Cedar Hill by 2. Kinda a surprise there, although SGP had beaten Duncanville earlier. DeSoto beat Skyline by 12. That is a little more than I thought. Prosper beat Plano by 3. That is a surprise as Plano had beaten Prosper twice in district play.

Tiny girl gets the rebound and game winner.

It's not easy to beat a good team three times in one season... there are some exceptions to that rule (one in the Big 12 that I won't mention).

3 times is REALLY hard to do. Allen beat Sachse 3 times this year and each time was closer. And could have won the last one. Good coaches make adjustments as do the players.

Would love to land her; but, took her a while to remember "Texas" after she had rattled off a bunch of schools quickly. So, won't get my hopes up just yet.
yeah, that was noticeable. :smile1:
Still, at least she remembered about us. There's a chance!

I wish we had another rating symbol for news like Deja visiting Oregon. Something that would show up as maybe "Ok. Hookem" would work for me. I don't consider it negative but neither do I care to "like" it. Something neutral would work.

Ashley Chevalier got up the court pretty fast on that last assist to her teammate. Credit also to Amanda Olinger who hustled down the court and was ready to receive the pass from Ashley.

Going to see Cedar Park Vista Ridge versus Prosper tonight at 6 pm in Dallas. Then Pflugerville Hendrickson vs Allen at 8 pm. I am pulling for CPVR and Pflugerville to win. Mostly because I don't want to see a Baylor recruit (Jordan Oliver for Prosper) nor a Louisville recruit (Allen) win. Since a fan HAS to guess, I think Prosper wins the first game and Allen wins the second. The iffy game is the PH vs Allen. If I haven't mixed my teams up, PH is ranked second in the state and Allen is 15th. My picking Allen is based on my fair and biased opinion of the quality of basketball played in the Metroplex vs Central Texas. as a general rule, the competition in the Metroplex is tough and prepares teams for playoff difficulty. Also I have seen Allen and they are pretty good with their size and 2-3 match up zone. Good to not really care who wins and just enjoy a wonderful Friday night watching good girls basketball with friends.

Good story about Sierra Canyon with a number of quotes from Ashley Chevalier. I like what she says about the school she wants to go to.

One of the key players in the team’s success thus far is staring point guard Ashley Chevalier. A junior this season, Chevalier has really stepped up and emerged as the team’s floor leader and extension of the coach on the court.

She’s an elite playmaker with great court vision, but she is able to go out there and put points on the board if need be. She’s able to get into the lane and attack the rim as well as step out and shoot from distance….

When it comes time for her to choose a school, she doesn’t want to take the easy out.

“I want to go somewhere where the conference is tough,” Chevalier said. “I don’t want to go somewhere where I’m going to just step right in and be a starter, I want to be pushed, I want to be challenged. I want to go somewhere where I have to earn my spot, earn my due.”

Well...……..back from the regional games tonight. The first one was ugly. 32-10 at the half.....Prosper over CP Vista Ridge. The second half was just play the clock. I think the final margin was 20-25. In talking to the Vista Ridge folks, they were felt they played their worst game of year. They had previously played Prosper in the fall and it was a very close game. Jordyn Oliver just simply dominated the game. She has a lot of flair to her game and can do it all. I didn't think her shooting was great but everything else was off the charts. Vista Ridge had lost 11 games previously and got hot late in the season. However, there was a ton of disparity in skills, talent, experience, etc. between the players. In the second game, all I can say is WOW! What a game. Allen dominated early and went up double digits. Then Pflugerville Hendrickson's point guard took over. She hit seven three pointers in the first half and I'll be she had 25-27 points by half. Her three pointers were NBA distance and high arching and nothing but net. They did a better job on her the second half by rotating different types of defensive players. I believe Allen was up by 2 at half. The game changed hands several times in the third. Allen went up by perhaps 7, then PH went up by 5 and back and forth. And just let me pause. This was high shelf basketball. Simply amazing displays of long range bombs by both teams mixed in with other amazing plays. At different times, I thought each team was taking control and then the other came back. Nyah Green was simply amazing. She simply wouldn't let Allen lose. I don't know how many points but perhaps 25 and it seemed most were at critical times. With 3 minutes to go it was tied. Green then hit a way beyond NBA three pointer and Allen went on to win by 8 or perhaps 10. I left with O.4 seconds left with the score by 8 but Allen shooting free throws. PH is REALLY good as you would expect a 36-1 team to be. In talking to the PH head coach from last year, he said that their leading scorer hurt her knee in the Round Rock game and wouldn't play. Averages 20 points a game. So I am sure that was a factor. In visiting before the game with an old AAU crony that was there scouting for this summer, he predicted Allen to win it all. So we'll see tomorrow. Tonight's game may have taken something out of Allen as it was so intense. Prosper had a relatively relaxing game. So I still stick with my guess of Allen winning it all tomorrow. I'll be at my grandkids volleyball and basketball games tomorrow so will miss the regional final game. Green and Oliver are both BIG time players. I have no idea which one is better. Green shoots better but Oliver handles the ball like a point guard. They both do. I will NOT like Oliver at Baylor as she has that chip that will irritate us all. I met a ton of good folks tonight from Cedar Park and Pflugerville. I wish both would have won. Simply an wonderful night of girls playoff basketball.

South Grand Prairie beat Amarillo Tascosa 53-29. They previously beat No. 6 Duncanville and No 1 Cedar Hill. Tascosa had 24 turnovers. In the Prosper game the coach said that they never press. So tonight they pressed and that led to their win over Vista Ridge. When they played earlier in a double over time win, Prosper allowed 75 points. With the press, Prosper allowed 25 points total with 25% shooting percentage for Vista Ridge.

Mansfield Timberview won 64-50 over Lubbock Cooper.
Amarillo got a put-back with 2 seconds left to beat The Colony 68-66. The Colony was up by 15 after one. J Spears had 32 and the Amarillo coach said she was "as good of a player as we've seen all year".

in the region finals today, Allen beat Prosper 58-53. And DeSoto beat South Grand Prairie 51-34. Houston Summer Creek and Converse Judson also won. Should be a good state battle. Someone needs to come up with some details on HSC and CJ. In 5-A, Amarillo beat Mansfield Timberview 47-45. That is a little surprise, although Amarillo was the defending state champions. Frisco Liberty beat Frisco Lone Star in OT by 4. Fort Bend Hightower and Kerrville Tivy both won by about 10 points. Don't have a clue who is the favorites in 6-A or 5-A. Forced to guess, I would have to put a $2 bill on Allen and Amarillo. And I have to give a shout-out to the Frisco teams. Frisco has 8 high schools. They took the smaller is better for the kids approach versus the let's be a megaschool city like one high school (Allen). I unabashedly support the philosophy of the smaller schools so that more kids get to feel the excitement of playing. So I will ALWAYS pull for the smaller schools and root against the Allen's and Plano's and Duncanville's and others that value winning is the most important thing. The Frisco ISD and citizens are applauded. And they will be opening another high school it seems like every 2-3 years. Go Frisco !

Getting coaches' kids into your program (in any sport) is a great intangible as they come with so much education and insight about the game.
