2020 Recruiting - WBB

As I was scrolling through the history of this thread, I thought it was funny to see Maliyah Johnson be listed in various posts as: 6'4", 6'3", and 6'2".

Make up your mind young lady!

Just a few games last night. A few of interest and a lot of non-competitive games early in tournaments. Duncanville wins by 54 over San Antonio Johnson. I believe SA Johnson was the school Deja Kelly just left. Kelly with 11 and Gusters with 19. Duncanville with a 53 point win against Klein Oak. Kelly with 13 and Gusters with 12. Bishop Lynch with a 10 point win over Odessa Permian with Rogers with 14. Taylor Jones with 26 for Dallas Christian over Carrollton Creekview(my daughter’s old team). Good to see Jones has recovered from her injury. Jordan Merrritt with 14 in a 40 point win for Plano. Myra Gordon with 22 in a 32 point win for LD Bell. Jewel Spear with 30 in a blowout for The Colony. Then 20 in a closer 15 point win. Friday and Saturday games should be more competitive as tourney brackets condense.

Here are a few stats on Harmoni Turner-- one my favorite players in the DFW Metroplex. She plays for Mansfield Legacy.

24 points in a loss to Birdville (47-57)
30 points in a win over Kennedale (81-44)
35 points in a win over RL Turner (93-29)

The Texas coaches will most likely go all out to try to get Harmoni Turner. She’s a must have for Texas because Baylor will probably get first dibs on Sarah Andrews. Texas has to get a quality PG in the 2020 class and I think Harmoni will be the PG that the coaches will focus on.

That's probably the most likely scenario but I wish they would also look at some of the other available PGs nationally: Hailey Van Lith, for example.

I hope so because Harmoni is a well rounded athlete and is also a good student.

IMO, Texas got on Endyia Rogers late and probably had an uphill climb to get her signature (no fault of Texas because I think Endyia exploded in the AAU circuit last Summer).

Harmoni Turner sounds fantastic. Why is it, though, that Baylor will probably have first dibs on Sarah Andrews? I forget.

Does that mean that Deja Kelly is completely out of the picture? Both have parted ways? Would seem to me UT missing out on a PG this year and losing one would make us a prime candidate for starting jobs. In fact, wouldn't KA double down and get more than one PG?

I don’t have any inside info but I think that they have continued to recruit Deja. I just talked about Harmoni because Deja is more of a combo guard.

I think that’s an assumption based on their success with previous MacArthur guards (Odyssey Sims, Alexis Jones).

In addition, Sarah Andrews' HS coach played basketball at Baylor.

It's interesting that Alexis Jones' brother is Andrew Jones, who is a member of the Texas Men's Basketball team.

If Alexis Morris returns to Baylor next year (as planned), she may have three years of eligibility to play PG. Do you believe her return could be a factor in Andrews not choosing Baylor?
I’m sure it will have impact on what she decides if Morris comes back and has 3 years of eligibility.

Would love to see that game. And it’s only about 10 minutes away. However, we have grandparent duties tomorrow for soccer and basketball. Have to read the DMNews Sunday to find out.

For sure Morris back at Baylor would impact Andrews decision. Both of them are THE point guard wherever they are playing and I can’t imagine Andrews wanting to back-up anybody for 3 years. I am thinking Texas all the way for Andrews. I had a coach tell me last spring that Texas had a good chance. I am NOT going to ask again and will just stay with that opinion. Better for my emotional health.

Mansfield Legacy (Harmoni Turner's team) got 2nd place in this weekend's tournament. Legacy defeated LD Bell (Myra Gordon's team) 65-59 but lost to Plano in the finals (Jordyn Merrit's team) 58-69.

Legacy vs LD Bell
Turner 28 points
Gordon 20 points

Legacy vs Plano
Turner 20 points
Merritt 30 points

Texas Tour 2018:
Duncanville was led by All-tournament selectee Deja Kelly (see below) with 18 points and Tournament MVP Hannah Gusters (see below) with 15 points. Summer Creek was led by Maliyah Johnson (see below) with 12 points

Article also has some observations about several players, including some Texas targets such as the three mentioned above.
