2020 recruiting - Softball

Bailey Williams SS/OF from Murrietta Valley, CA
Kyleigh Sand IF/OF from Norco, CA
Ryleigh White, RHP, Washington Township, New Jersey

Well, I'm glad I don't understand "how the sausage is made" when it comes to softball and volleyball recruiting. They are just one day there and next day here and vice versa.

Out of curiosity @Ellis21d how do you find out who commits or decommits? In football, there are many free sites that track up to the minute status. In WBB, I have this site as well as the ESPN. In volleyball, it's a slower process via VolleyTalk. How do you keep on top of the softball recruiting news?

There's not a good way to find this stuff. FloSoftball has a recruit list, but it's limited to people submitting information. The only other way I can find info is mining news and select team websites. Most teams also post commitments on social media and hashtag the school, but even that is spotty.

Racer, Vol is exactly right. No easy way to mine information about softball. Follow Steve Singleton on Twitter, he actually posts more info about Recruiting than anyone! I still don’t know how NBHornfan found the information about the California kids committing to Texas which is on the Corona Angels web site. No official announcement has been forthcoming. Or how he thinks Haley Hudson and Hannah Earls decommitted. I have personally not seen that confirmed either!

In regards to Hudson and Earls, a tiny bit of twitter nuance. You can see them re-tweeting Texas stuff and then there's dead silence for months. The last Earls Texas re-tweet was in May. And for Hudson it was June (for a Texas baseball player). I think one of them had, in the past "Texas softball commit" in their bio and that has been scrubbed as well.

BUT: on the flip side, Kyleigh Sand does very little on Twitter and Bailey Williams is a very common name on the internet where I'm not even sure she has an account! So yeah, other than a team web site there's no proof those two are officially committed. I guess we'll know in November!

I just knew of the Hudson decommit from seeing what travel ball teams our coaches were watching this year. I also heard rumblings of us going hard after 1 2020 pitcher and 2 2021 pitchers.

Williams has been committed close to a year now, the Sand commit just happened a month ago.

This is Bailey's tweet from October 2018:

It's interesting. I went back and looked at the Hannah Hudson tweet and it was her dad's tweet saying "Texas commit". And this tweet from Bailey is her own tweet. I guess it's really, really official when you see a tweet with the player in a UT uniform.

Danny Davis from the Statesman tries to cover softball. Recently, he had an article which talked about softball loading up in the future. He talked about the two 2021 and the ONE 2020 commits. So....ummmm, a commitment might be in the eye of the tweeter. But then, sometimes I'm ahead of Davis on some recruiting information and I've got to tweet a fact to him!

Seems like the staff is really hitting California hard for the 2020 class.

The best news, although it might not mean anything, is that Coach Singleton started twitter following Coppel's Jayda Coleman, the #1 recruit for 2020 who has been committed to OU for several years. She has not started following him, though. Would be quite a coup if the staff can get her to take an official visit in the coming weeks.

This is so refreshing! Coach White is going to build a championship team! They are absolutely attacking the recruiting trail! To see players flipped in softball is not that common! Maybe this is just the recruiting phase Texas is in. He’s just getting started on building the Texas softball brand.

Just a little cool info about White that may or may not be widely known to help explain why he is such a great coach. My daughter attended an invite only pitching camp Friday night and was catching for a friend who was invited. During the camp they had pitchers and catchers doing different things from time to time and White talked with the catchers for a while. My daughter basically said she absolutely loved his style and in my words would have basically run thru a brick wall if he had asked. Demanding while at the same time complimentary in almost every thing he said. Eye contact like nothing she has experienced.

She had a dream of playing for Texas and had pretty much resigned herself to playing her next two years at her JuCo then quitting to focus on academics. Well, now she said she wants to double down on workouts with a goal of making the all region team her freshman season while staying in contact with White.

Texas is stacked at catcher and he's not really known to take JuCo transfers so I have no illusions there's much of a chance. But who knows where she might end up and if she does land somewhere to enjoy her last two years I will personally thank him for the little he had to do to influence her.

After the debacle at Connie's camp which we paid good money to attend and what I've seen at many other camps vs what happened in three hours Friday night I am in awe. I've never seen a coach motivate and excite my daughter like this.

We have a great coach who is different and better in almost every way. I'm convinced he will get anyone he wants and that he will lead Texas to a championship.

:hookem:

Discussing Texas recruiting at the 10:47 mark, with Texas-ex Chez Sievers defending our honor against the haters.

JJ Smith is still committed.
You amaze me NB how you mine this information. You must really be in touch with the Summer Select team web sites! Keep sending the information, it's great. Softball at Texas is about to Explode!!
What I believe is happening, in my personal opinion, is that Coach White has told all of the Connie Clark commitments that Texas will honor the commitment made to them from Connie but they are also continuing to recruit their position. In other words come and and try to make it if you want to but you're going to have a hard time making it with the players we plan to bring in. Earls and Hudson seems to have taken the information and decided to pursue other avenues but Smith wants to hang on to the Texas dream for now. Allie Clements is Connie's only remaining 2021 offer and she still shows on her twitter account she is a Texas commit. I really don't blame them for hanging on to the dream but competition is going to be brutal in the future teams to come!!

Just found this article, which was posted early Sept.

2019 NCAA Softball Recruiting Rankings

I know that Texas had/has to go with who we got in 2019 because it was a short runway for Mike White to recruit or adjust who he wanted for 2019. But the interesting thing is that his successor at Oregon, in the same timeframe built up (or recovered enough) to get a #13 class. And then of course, OU and OSU made the rankings because they recruit very well.

I counted 7 seniors for the 2019-2020 class and we've got (....checks notes) 4 commits and maybe another decommit from Tennessee.

Jayden (JJ) Smith 1B/3B/C/SS George Ranch High School, Richmond, Texas
Bailey Williams SS/OF from Murrietta Valley, CA
Kyleigh Sand IF/OF from Norco, CA
Ryleigh White, RHP, Washington Township, New Jersey

I don't know about the rankings, but the videos of Williams and Sand are very encouraging as those two can play. White is ranked at 26 I believe, which is darn good. I think this group will be more than solid. Also, I doubt Mike is finished
with 2020.

While I'd love to have some more recruits in the fold for 2020, we also have to keep some scholarship funds open for any possible incoming transfers. With the transfer portal being such a huge factor now, I'm in favor of being patient if our immediate needs aren't available from the high school senior class.

Looks like we might be showing interest in Aaliyah Ortiz (based on Coach Singleton now following her on twitter, and vicer verse) who is currently committed to McNeese State, but plays club ball with Simpson and Smith.

2020 Extra Elite 100 Candidate: Texas Slugger Aaliyah Ortiz is a "Legend in the Making" - Extra Inning Softball

Good find Moooooo. But to ask an obvious question, if she's that great, why is she (currently) heading to McNeese?

Then again, Mike White dropped a catcher (Cait Calland - Connie Clark recruit) who then caught on immediately with LSU. And awkward....she'll be playing against Mike's team Friday.

People sure have good things to say about Aaliyah Ortiz. Papi is a really cool nickname!

I'm all for a slugger that brings fear into a pitcher's heart. We haven't had that type of player since sophmore Lindsey Stephens (junior and senior Lindsey, meh). I had thought that maybe Elicia Espinoza was going to be a slugger....but her few trips up to the plate didn't show the ability to connect with the ball.

Texas just picked up a commitment from 2020 alyssa Washington via steve singleton. She is a short stop out of Abilene high school
Yup, saw that as well. Since singing day is just a few weeks from now, I figured she must be a flip. Google tells me:

That UT flipped her from North Carolina and she's from Abilene, TX
