2020 Recruiting - Football

Can anyone remember a 5-star level talent on the field, whose off the field behavior was so atrocious that he was considered toxic by all and nobody wanted him—not Miami, not Oklahoma, not UH, etc.? Georgia just recently told him to get lost, right? To put a positive spin on Evans—“He’s not the most coachable guy in the Class of 2020.”

Which adds up to we signed the #1 RB in the nation
I'm just sayin

Here are the final 247 in-state rankings - dont really know how Drew Sanders did it, but he is #1. I think Smith-Njigba is the one who we could see as a star in the NFL. And if so, then come on down Rakestraw
1) Drew Sanders
2) Jaxon Smith-Njigba
3) Jaylon Jones
4) Demond Demas
5) Alfred Collins
6) Zach Evans
7) Ja'Quinden Jackson

Bijan>>>>>>>Evans

As toxic as Evans is when he's not running with the football on the field, I'd take a random 3 star RB over him. Can't have a guy like that in our locker room.

IMHO:

Broughton is way too low.

Karic should be in the top 20, maybe top 15, and he's not even on the list.

I'm glad to see Jerrin Thompson at #30, maybe a bit higher than I would have put him, but that's good to see. The rub on him is he's mostly a 'big hit artist', but he does have great speed and instincts, so he could certainly become the complete safety with good coaching.

We should be kicking ourselves for losing Jahari Rogers to U. of Florida.

Agree
Crawford got a decent bump but they lowered several Texas commits in the final (noting Jaylen Garth's injury hurt him in the rankings)
But Fouonji ahead of Quentin Johnston is retarded

Also I think Bijan Robinson should also now be the #1 RB in the Composite too

You've got to throw a bone out West to Tech every now and then. We wouldn't want that part of the State to secede--Texas would lose around 1/2 of its oil.

Fouonji put up some good track times, but on the football field he faded in 2019
I am not sure if Johnson camped at all, which will hurt
However, with these two, just look at the tape, its tells the tale

The knock on Karic appears to be that he is on the shorter side (6'4 range) with shorter arms
I'm going to have to dissent from that (possibly) prevailing opinion. He's 6'4 1/2". Not super tall, but plenty tall. Some of these gurus may have a different set of things they look for in projecting potential NFL talent 5 years out. I'm considering how well he projects in college ball. IMHO, Karic is the best OL prospect in the State.

2019 All American OTs--mostly a bunch of 6'5" guys (Karic is 6'4 1/2" -- one whoppin' half inch shorter than many of these All American OTs, and taller than one):

1st Team:
Penei Sewell, Oregon 6'6"
Josh Jones, Houston 6'5"

2nd Team:
Andrew Thomas, Georgia 6'5"
Tristan Wirfs, Iowa 6'5"

3rd Team:
Jedrick Wills, Jr., Alabama 6'5"
Calvin Throckmorton, Oregon 6'6"

Hon. Mention:
Danny Pinter, Ball State 6'4"
Darian Kinnard, Kentucky 6'7"
Scott Hattok, Air Force 6'5"
Blake Brandel, Oregon State 6'7"

Today was the 247 rankings and they are clear they are projecting NFL capability. That is how the cut off for the 5-stars is determined, roughly matching the amount of players taken in the 1st round. They have 31 five-stars for 2020.

One more thing - the final people who set the final 247 rankings are supposed to be Simmons, Wiltfong, Powers, Biggins, and Huffman. Simmons has said in the past he does not think shorter, short-armed OTs project as OTs in the NFL. While someone with that build might end up an All-American in college, he still does not project as a high pick in the league. And this is how 247 attempts to rank them. They have taken a lot of heat over the years for this, but defend the process and stick with it.

The kid from Florida who committed to UF, sexually assaulted a coed on his official visit and the UF president made the HC (Urban Myth) cut him loose. No one would touch him, but Donna Schilala forced Larry Coker to give him a second chance. (He was just misunderstood.) He lasted about two weeks before Coker cut him loose without letting her know. The kid was so toxic from everyone including the Mississippi & Kansas jucos.
The kid did, however, announce he was accepting an offer from WVU and would enroll "tomorrow". It took RichRod about 30 minutes to announce that he knew nothing about it, and WVU had no scholarship for him.

Of course, we won't talk about our safety, whose four charges and felony convictions were covered up by his HS coach. Did Mack know or not? I don't think so.

5 star legs, 1 star head.

I see it a bit like Javonne Shepherd. You know going in there are going to be issues, but you spin the roulette wheel on the high-upside talent anyway. And then give him all the help you can and hope he grows up quickly. But odds are he will not and will end up back in the portal, where he will find someone else willing give him a chance. We've seen this pattern play out a million times.

For us, the worst I can think of off the top of my head is Robert Timmons. I dont recall if he was 5-star or not but he had all-world talent. What a waste.

Edwin Simmons? I was really young and maybe he went down that path after his injuries/depression.

Does Princely has some baggage? I saw somewhere where a website listed him as the first player to enter the transfer portal next year.

Injuries got him. Maybe a genetic defect too (I think one of his legs was longer than the other?). Also that story about being found naked outside some apt bldg was because he had to jump out a window in a rush as someone returned home sooner than scheduled. And the rumor was that said early returnee was linked to staff. :shh:

Edwin Simmons doesn't belong in this conversation. Good kid, OU remembers him well. Unfortunate genetics got him. If you want to blame someone on the staff, start and end with Spanky 'it's not my fault' Stevens.

Are you talking about the kid that Robert Joseph called from the Austin jail and asked him to either intimidate or tale care of the witness against him?

Either the jails he was used to in Jefferson County didn't record outgoing calls, or Joseph was not Valedictorian at Port Arthur.

I never knew the kid from El Paso killed himself.
