2020 Presidential Election: let the jockeying commence

You mean Continental right? They were great in the 90’s under Bethune.

My memory is that Cont filed for Chapter 11 ~1990 and emerged ~1993
This was on the heels of a previous Chapter 11 in the mid-to-late 1980s.
But I agree they were pretty good after they came out (before United). Bit it is also worth noting some analysts think Cont was headed back into bankr yet again at the time they merged with United

As to United, i used to fly them almost weekly in and out of Dulles - and I say they were good a good to great airline back then. I know everyone hates them now, but I rarely fly them anymore

Anyone here ever fly Singapore Airlines? Wow they have the hottest flight attendants ever.

I know you are probably joking a little, Bill, but it's also great when the airlines are backed by their governments.

But, I do see liberal people touting the great foreign airlines and some for the reasons you are pointing out. Total objectifying women and only hiring certain women. They don't pound their fists about that, just like they don't pound their fists about anything other countries do that they expect America to do. Pollution, etc.

Other countries don't have gay dudes and pissed off old ladies as fight attendants to anywhere near the degree we do in the states.

Have you seen Nancy's response to fight the coronavirus?
She announced a new House Select Committee to investigate Trump.
LOL, because, of course
She named Biden-surrogate Jim Clyburn to Chair the "Select" Committee which will purportedly be looking into a way to impeach Trump again regarding his response to the coronavirus.

Yes, a lot of people like our model of dirt cheap ticket price and pay as you go, basically.

Frontier is pretty cheap, but they're still more than easyJet and Ryanair. I once flew in easyJet from Luxembourg to Lisbon for 2 people round trip for about €65 (about $72) in June 2018, and that included an assigned seat and a cabin bag for each.

We have fares like that sometimes. And yet, we make more money, well we did, than any of the other US airlines. Crazy.

I dont know if its still true but Alaska Air used to have top service -- including great food. I always jumped at the chance to fly them whenever I could.

"Old" Frontier used to have hot food, DirecTV in the seat backs, things like that. But, people didn't want to play what it took to sustain the costs of those things. Thus, after selling to Republic and going through bankruptcy, Bill Franke and Indigo Partners bought it and turned it into an Ultra Low Cost money making machine.

People claim to want all the amenities you see from subsidized foreign airlines, but they refuse to pay for it.

Continental was very good from 2004-2011 when I flew them many many times.

I know I will never fly Southwest again. I flew from Texas to Maine and I swear I thought I was flying in a coffin.

I trust US pilots, maintenance crews, and anything technical more than the foreigners. However, I prefer the Asian flight attendants, and their (very) friendly and polite airline industry service personnel including the desk staff. They treat the customers the way customers should be treated. Our airline industry customer service personnel and flight attendants are often rude.

Re: Continental. The controversial airline corporate raider Frank Lorenzo used Chapter 11 to reject the union contracts. Business schools hailed him as a brilliant business leader. Unions regarded him as pond scum.

Damn: when we still haven't gotten around to another Beghazi hearing?

Funny thing is flight attendants always seemed pretty hot and about 10 years older than me when I first started flying in the 1970s. Who would have thought those same slender well groomed women would still be at it 50 years later.

Are they, or are these relatively new hires? What you point out might explain the 60 year old ladies. It doesn't explain the 35 year old gay guys. To be perfectly honest, I don't care. Like any other guy, I can appreciate attractive women, but I'm not looking to pick up flight attendants or to join the mile-high club. Competence and courtesy are my concerns. Whether I'm given that bag of pretzels by a hot chick or by the washed up keyboardist from the Pet Shop Boys is of little consequence.

However, the contrast is pretty stark and hard not to notice. The occupation formerly known as "stewardess" used to be dominated by courteous, attractive, younger (maybe 25-35 year old) women and still is in most nations. Then in the US in around 1985, the profile started to change to pissed off 50 year old women and their gay nephews. It's just kinda strange and also noteworthy that it's almost entirely an American phenomenon.

I was responding to a post saying they were "great in the 1990s." Just pointing out they were in and out of bankruptcy twice from the mid 1980s to mid 1990s.

Apparently with this impeachment attempt, Clyburn wants to show the coronavirus is a racist and it is all Trump's fault. It looks like they are worried about his rising approval rates among A-As and they think they can knock them back down.

I was speaking solely as a frequent flier. They mailed out first class upgrade coupons to frequent fliers. Because they had no system to track use, we figured out how to reuse the same coupon on every flight. I flew first class 100 times per year for 4 years straight on one coupon. Could also be why they filed Chapter 11 so many times.

I just can't wait for things to start opening up again so y'all can get on all our planes and deal with the hideous, rude flight attendants lol.
