2019 Recruiting - Football

I can think of times when a small forward height could be great and certainly in his limited play I've seen this year, Epps has looked faster and more agile than scouting reports had led me to expect. Still, I don't want to see Epps trying to defend 50 yards against OU's Lamb or Brown … but maybe for red zone defense he could be just the ticket.
boils down to is he as quick and fast as the receivers he would be expected to cover? If so size helps against certain offensive schemes. If not, don't invest the time.

I keep reading we need DLine Oline, DLine OLine! We pick up a great recruit in Warren, and all you call talk about is tall CB’s??? Welcome to Texas Warren. I’m pumped

To me Warren is going to be one of those players that doesn't play much but will be a good practice player after a year or so. Just an average get nothing to get excited about
Would be nice if I am wrong.

That's what I'm talking about

Jacoby Jones has been a Giles/Carrington combo effort, something that worked well towards the end of last season's recruiting period. They say Giles had been in contact for awhile which lead to his backing out of the ou verbal. Then Bryan Carrington picked him up from the airport for this visit and escorted him through much of the weekend's events. But its not over yet as he has an Oregon visit.

A disturbance in the field has been detected -- the LSU boards say one of their RB commits -- Tyrion Davis -- will OV to Bama one week before NSD. This event has the potential to shuffle the entire universe of 2019 RB recruiting again
We will see

He's a terrific all-around athlete. My best guess is that LJH currently has everyone's attention, especially going against 5'9-5'10 DBs. So the idea is to give Epps every chance to move from TE to receiver. If the experiment works and it gives us some continuity in fielding multiple 6'5 slot receivers, then the question quickly became "but how will defenses counter?" Will they start playing CBs with Epp's size? Something like this is probably where this speculation started.

The Texans have a rookie named Jordan Thomas who is 6'5,270 (or 6'6, 280 depending on who you go by) who ran a forty in the 4.6s. He is playing well with 3 TDs. But in college at Miss St he never played TE, he was always a WR (I think bc their roster had lots of TEs but no WRs). But can you imagine being a typical 5'10 college corner lined up in man coverage opposite a guy that size who can run a 4.6? Yikes

Has Jalen Green not impressed so far? And any thoughts of Jamison moving to corner next year? His SPARQ was off the charts, if memory serves correct he was tops among at least all other DB recruits if not the entire class.

I think both Cook and Green have been fine for freshmen. I can't even remember one of our great CB's from DBU being truly impressive as a freshman, maybe Westbrook? But Ross, Huff, Williams and Vasher had their struggles as freshmen and we know how they turned out.

Jamison moving to DB may depend on if Humphrey and/or Johnson go pro. It they leave he most certainly stay at WR.

If I were to venture a guess, they have likely been trying to bunk him him and realize that he doesn't have the frame to carry much more weight than he already is carrying. This they think WR or maybe CB is a better option for him.

Anyone old enough to remember the day when a 230 lb guy was the prototypical LB in the NFL?

Numbers are thin at CB and I'm pretty sure they are likely looking at giving him a shot since he is a guy that can move well and body up on bigger receivers. I would also guess that this is strictly a Spring thing and he will settle in a WR next year, or he will move on.

Only way Helton comes back is if the alums, the $$$, the administration are all so divided over Del Rio, Pete Carroll, James Franklin that no decision or compromise can be reached. So, as opposed to choosing good, better, best, they will stick with bad. while fighting behind the scenes, and watching Chip Kelly try to build the impossible in Westwood

Joe I think it is best for us if Clay is back. Train wreck can’t be undone by hopes and dreams of Del Rio or other sunshine pumper for USC. Pass me a Bru bro

Yeah, I think it can kill recruiting once the year to year should he stay or should he go stench settles in over the program. Even though kids are advised to pick the school and not the coaches, I think it's the opposite; relationships, stability and success means a lot to the top prospects.

I agree. I know Joe has forgotten more about recruiting, and relationships than I know, but it seems like SC is a wreck. My fear was they hire a hot name, Matt Campbell, PJ Fleck, and they reinvigorate the recruiting.

Just spitballing, but I bet that’s Chip Kelly’s fear too.

I think it's 50/50. Bru has a good relationship with the USC coaches and he has lots of people there as well. Texas offers more stability and a better coaching staff so I can't call it. No matter which he chooses, he is going to be a heck of a player. Would love to see him pick Texas but wouldn't be surprised if he sticks with SC.
