2019 Recruiting - Football

TE Brayden Liebrock (Chandler, AZ) says he will decide this month. ASU still considered the favorite as his family has ties to the program. Not that we need a TE or anything.

5-star CB, #2 corner in the country
LSU is the fav but Jason Washington has kept us in the race

Watson is a great piece to our running game! Depth baby depth. And he will be the third down back, as the man can catch the ball! :hookem2:

First, I love Bryan Carrington. We are in the absolute wasteland drought season for college football and he manages to keep me excited.

Second, looking at the Hudl video of Jake Smith is a bit absurd. If the competition level is minimally decent, Smith has elite speed. He just blows by people.

I have not followed the recruitment of Brayden. I hope his commitment to the good guys is accurate. It looks like he may be underrated right now and a very good pass catching TE.

Starting to look like Texas did some great work with him this weekend. A week ago...even a couple days ago...looked lean ASU. More people thinking now we may get him this afternoon.
You never know with this stuff, though.

Pairing him with Jake Smith and Whittington could be like whoa for our up and coming QB room.

Edit: I personally don't see any indication he has already committed...still speculative to my knowledge for what it is worth.

On another speculative recruiting note...I've seen a couple things that gave me a sneaking suspicion Baker Mayfield might have been one of many voices in the ear of Garrett Wilson prior to his commitment to tOSU.
:rolleyes1:

Seems like the cat is out of the bag.
Before the kid had the chance to announce
This time it was Holland who says it was an honest mistake
...When are these media guys going to learn!?
(That is rhetorical, of course)

Edit: I see the 247 article announcing Liebrock's "commitment" has been removed. Thanks EJ. Always a good idea to upset recruits.

1) be a good journalist
2) build good relationships
3) don't be a douche

not that hard. though in all the articles they spit out nowadays, #1 seems to be the hardest. these guys' editors need to be shot 1/3 of the time.

I would say there is no doubt about it. Baker is on record (as you probably know) as being bitter towards UT over how Gilbert was "treated." Baker seems the type to milk a grudge and being an OU grad pretty much cinches the hatred. We can probably kiss Lake Travis goodbye for a long time.

WR Jake Smith (Scottsdale, AZ) says he has been communicating with fellow Zonian TE Brayden Liebrock --
"Brayden and I have been texting back and forth lately. I'm getting to know him pretty well. He's a baller."

Too bad those kids can't think for themselves...or rely on parents who can guide them out of that kind of unsound "logic."
:smh:

" ..... he 6’5, 220-pounder picked up his offer from the Longhorns back in February when he was one of the fastest-rising prospects in the Southwest. Since then, he’s added more than 10 offers — he has a chance to play at programs like Alabama, Louisville, LSU, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, and USC.
* * *
The offer list tells a better tale of Liebrock’s value to top programs around the country than his rankings, as he’s a high three-star prospect considered the No. 382 player nationally, the No. 13 tight end, and the No. 6 player in Arizona, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Liebrock is a big addition for the Longhorns as the tight end with the most prototypical build Herman has landed since arriving in Austin — Reese Leitao is close, but doesn’t have the pure height and length of Liebrock. At 6’5 and capable of eventually carrying at least 240 pounds, Liebrock projects as a capable in-line blocker in college. He wouldn’t hold an offer from Michigan if he didn’t.

On his junior film, Liebrock is at his best working at the second level, where his reactive quickness and willingness to keep his feet moving after contact make him an effective blocker. Executing blocks at the line of scrimmage will most likely take some time to develop, as he needs to add strength in his upper and lower body to anchor against college defensive ends.

Right now, Liebrock’s best attribute is his ability as a pass catcher, as he recorded 39 catches for 600 yards and five touchdowns as a junior, good for 15.4 yards per catch. As much as Herman wants his tight ends to be able to execute in-line blocks, he also wants athletes who are capable of lining up in the slot and beating linebackers with their speed or boxing out safeties with their height...."
