2019 Recruiting - Football

I'm linking this article from an Ohio State publication on 2019 WR Garrett Wilson's recruiting partly for informative purposes and partly to point out what these type of pieces should look and sound like.
I'm sooo tired of the hit pieces, hyperbole, presumption, postering, and just plain trash that comes out of the college sports media today...especially when recruiting is involved. This, found in Columbus of all places, is of a different sort...and one I can respect. ...refreshing. Kudos to Mr. Donnelly.

Damn, I didn't realize he was raised not too far from the Shoe and went to many Buckeye games as a kid. I also forgot his HS QB this year was Baldwin who is now at Ohio St. I just assume he'd stay home but he can claim both as home. He also mentioned he didn't like the direction our offense was going. But if we can have a good year we might just win him over. This is not my profession, but if I had to give a Crystal Ball Prediction I'd say Ohio St 55% Texas 45%. But it's early and things can change during the football season.

According to his tweet he will make a decision soon after his two visits in April.

Maybe seeing the offense beat the defense the other day at spring practice will be enough for him to believe we are going in the right direction. :hookem:

That actually might be significant when pointing towards our upcoming season. As I recall from last year the defense had its way with offense all through Spring and into fall for the most part... and it proved prescient.

agreed. the defense usually has the advantage early in practices. they can use their read-n-react natural abilities. if offense is having good success, that bodes well.

This is the #1 ranked RB in country per 247 Comp. He de-committed from Alabama back in Dec. Barton Simmons on Trey Sanders (of IMG/Florida):
I spoke to someone I trust around 5star IMG Academy RB Trey Sanders yesterday and learned that Texas is much more strongly in play than perhaps people realize. In fact, I'm told they could even be leading. he's close to the vest on his recruitment so anything on him is likely going to come from backchannels but I think he's a guy to start keeping a close eye on. I'm not ready to make a Crystal Ball prediction yet because he hasn't visited Texas. But if/when that comes, I'll be watching that visit really closely. Stan Drayton has done a really good job here.

TFB says there is "there is something quietly brewing" with 5-star RB Trey Sanders (IMG Academy)
He is the #1 RB and #6 national in the 247 Comp

Sounds like DT DeMarvin Leal is down to Texas and aggy.
He he will probably take some OOS visits, but is more likely to go to one of these two. He was at our Saturday scrimmage and thought the offense won.

Leal tweeted this out from practice

CB Kenyatta Watson will visit this weekend with his parents and siblings.
TFB says mom prefers UT at this time, and dad said UT is out-recruiting Notre Dame.

OL Javonne Shepherd (Houston North Forest) will be in Austin next weekend for an UOV. Had to cancel this past weekend.
247 says Herman and Coach Hand are personally FaceTiming with him.

Wake Forest grad transfer WR/slot Tabari Hines --

“It was a great visit. My favorite part was just being around the coaches. They are all great people and nice to talk to. The offense is featured through the position I would play there.”

“I have high interest in Texas. What stands out is just the whole family thing. It’s one big family. NFL players and former players all love being around Texas football.”

He has not been offered yet but it seems highly possible. Says he will also visit Oregon, ou and Marshall

Props to Herman and crew for putting in the work. You can’t say his doesn’t have the fire in his belly to succeed here.

Also, Sterns (and Cook) will be playing a lot this year. And I’m happy about that. They’re special. Just look at that hit above.

Texas may have just gotten a big boost with Gilbert. A former QC assistant just took a job at Lake Travis

Even if he commits to OSU, we may be whispering in his ear until NSD.
