2019 Recruiting - Football

At the recruiting presser, Herman noted that Javonne Shepherd’s family was with him on campus last week and that was the only college visit his family went on during the entire recruiting process. I had not heard that before. Herman also noted that Shepherd is 6’6 and currently 318 pounds.

His closing remark was --

“Recruiting is heading into the right direction. We have the right players, we have the right coaches, and we have the right athletic director.”

They are 100% myopically focused at the ESPN team rankings (which is probably the worst of the 3 main services with the least money and least people assigned. It used to be good, but some years ago they cut way back).
They are pretending the other two do not exist, nor does the 247 Composite exist (which combines all 3)

When he stands next to Shepherd, the TFK stands for "tiny Footwork King".

Can never have too many OL but I think the last 2 years plus the targets this year have me feeling pretty good. We definitely need more DL and RB.

Here's OT recruits the last 2 years
2018
OT Junior Angilau 4*
OT Reese Moore 4*
OT Rafiti Ghirmai 4*
OT Mikey Grandy 3*
OT Christian Jones 3*

2019
OT Tyler Johnson 4*
OT Isaiah Hookfin 4*
OT Javonne Shepherd 4*
Great bunch of young OL. I think Grandy may be medically retired from football. Look for Junior Angilau to commence mauling people in the very near future.

Out of all of these guys, my pick for most likely future 1st round NFL pick might surprise some: Hookfin. (with this group, we could have more than 1 or 2 of those...)

The fields approval is the worst thing to happen to happen to college athletics in my lifetime. Every time I think those gutless wonders in Indianapolis can't get any worse, they invent a new low.

Think I'll form a new LLC - "Rent a Redneck"; white sheets and hoods optional for a fee. No discounts to street agents.

Emmert's inner office memo:

"RACE CARD, everybody grab your ankles."

Those clowns in Indianapolis make the marginal admissions at Blinn look like a MENSA meeting.

Just found out that Fields sister just enrolled early at UGA on a softball scholarship, and shoots to **** the "he could no longer feel safe in Athens:.

Let's see how quickly the NCAA starts the tampering investigation.

A definite problem, probably the biggest mistake of 2019 recruiting season.
Better hit the grad market
But the rest of it looks pretty good

Yes, the rest does look good. It's good to see the OL filling out. Back-up QB is another problem but that might be something all programs now have to live with as the transfer situation is fully developed.

That list of roster players looks good with exception of RB's, hopefully Herman and crew can fill it out with some grad transfers. Possible to see Sam at rb a few times?

Who are possible rb transfers to Texas for '19?

There is a post several pages back about that
The 2nd highest rated RB in the transfer portal was Toneil Carter
Go figure

it's good to see the pipeline filling up with that kind of talent. It has been awhile but TH and staff are gittin' it done. This staff has shown the ability to respond to and address needs. I think they will do the same with the RB position.
Looking at that WR list, I think we can count on losing several of those to transfer. Not all of those guys are going to get touches and some are not going to be happy to wait around. We can lose several and still be in great shape.

On field success and continuation of great recruiting, not only by UT, but others also will soon close the gap Alabama has on most of other teams. That will be refreshing!

Time for a new 4-5 conference alignment ....Super Powers then others to create 2 Div 1 championships.

In his recruiting summary, Barton Simmons ("Director of Scouting" at 247) called LB David Gbenda "the nation's hardest hitter."

He just looks downright nasty.

While we’re certainly lacking experience at the position, it sure seems like we have plenty of talent available. Ossai is a developing stud, Gbenda a hitter, Ayeoye a specimen, and there are one or two “safeties” (Overshown and Owens come to mind) that could be speed burning hitters at the LB position.

It’s going to be fun watching that position evolve this fall.

They should now just throw out the whole sit out for a year rule and just acknowledge that we have entered a period of "free agency" in college football. Maybe there should be a sit out rule for intra-conference transfers.
