2019 Big 12 Tournament

Pathetic start. Defense is horrid. Seven turnovers in first quarter. That's like a 7th grade team. The basketball IQ of this team is very low.

Never fails when those posters with less than 25 posts chime in; yet, they are nowhere to be found when we are winning.

That's bs. The number of posts has nothing to do with anything. The facs are this team has no judgement, commits turnovers like 5 year olds and plays questionable defense. How many times are we going to go under a screen on Iowa State?
I go to every home game. Just because I don't post a lot doesn't disqualify me from having an opinion on this team.

Sure. Have your opinion; even if it's always negative; never said you couldn't. Of your 15 posts on here, 14 have to do with our losses to KSU, West Virginia, and Miss. State, and two in this current game thread. Zero to do with any wins.

Let me know the next time, which would be your first, you post something positive about one of our players or recruits.

I've never said a word about the recruits.
Get your facts straight. The reason I've been critical this year is that they deserve the criticism. They haven't played well. They make the same mistakes over and over again. The turnovers are a season-long problem.

Fair enough to demand.

But none of this refutes any of the facts or even has anything to do with them. Nobody is claiming the team deserves no criticism.

As I said, 14 of your 15 posts have been related to games we lost or losing; have at it. Your posting history is recorded here for everyone to see; no takebacks.

The turnovers have been a problem since Coach Aston’s tenure. I think you can coach better decision making to an extent but you also have to recruit players with high basketball IQ.

Technical was BS!!!! Mide had a huge block on Carleton and she was just standing there looking at Carleton, did NOT say anything and ref called the T.

We are not getting calls from the refs tonight

Dang, hate to see them lose but ISU just was a bit better today.
Hope that ISU is able to hit those 3s tomorrow.

The technical was bogus. Who knows, that could have made the difference. I thought we played a good game. Just too many three's from ISU in the first half. Sug and Jatarie very solid. One of Joyner's best games. I think Warren is a true asset, especially defensively. I look forward to three more years of watching her.

Horns fought hard tying it at 64-64 on a 3-pointer by Destiy. But, after a block by Mide on Carlton under the ISU basket, they called her for a technical for simply remaining standing where she made the block, and stared at Carlton who was on the floor. She didn't say a word, as confirmed by Aston on the post-game. Resulted in a 4-point possession for ISU. That was that.

But, playing bad defense to open the first quarter comes back to haunt you in the end; Aston said the same thing in the post-game.

Rarely complain about the refs, but they would call a foul on our players for every bump; but, didn't call it the other way.

But, in the fourth quarter, we also did foul, perhaps due to fatigue, in trying to guard screens. 3 or 4 fouls called there, and they were legit.

I wanna win every game, but maybe it's not a bad thing to avoid another embarrassing loss to Baylor tomorrow evening. Let's get ready for March Madness, WBB-style. Hook 'em!

Women can’t show or exhibit any emotion in sports or they’re going to get a technical for it.

I wanted to win today to assure ourselves of a #6 seed in the NCAA tourney.

Playing Baylor with their strong RPI would help us with our seed, win or lose. But, at least it will keep the negative-nellies at bay; they will just have to find something else to complain about on Monday night!

It will be interesting to see where they get sent and more importantly who they play. Depending on the opponent and their style of play Texas can make a run or get sent home very early.

Frankly, I hate having to settle for mediocrity. This season has been a huge disappointment. We all know it. Maybe Texas will make some kind of face-saving run in the tournament; but this team has shown few signs of the ability to do that.

What was your expectation going into the season? After losing Brooke and Ariel, and prior to injuries and transfers, I thought we'd be a Top 16 team (like we were the last two seasons). Once we found out Joyner was lost for the early part of the season, and Lashann was lost to an ACL, I knew that expectation would be hard to meet.

Assuming we get a #7 seed, every team currently being projected as #2 seed (Louisville, Iowa, Stanford, Miss. State, or Oregon) will be tough on the road; and, that's if you escape with a victory over a decent #10 seed.

In this case you can't even NOT show emotion. Mide did not open her mouth, advance toward Carlson, lean over, or even move her arms. Instead her absence of emotion was interpreted by a ref as taunting.

If Carlton had done the same thing (as I've seen her do dozens of times) there would be no call.

I expected Texas to be better than average. You?

I'm just a fan. Let's put it in the context of the recent past. The last five years were an exciting time under Karen Aston. She brought Texas back, and it looked like we were going to vault into the top ranks of women's basketball. Maybe she spoiled us. Two years ago we thought we were ascendant, on the brink, with great recruiting. I think it's fair to say that was the general expectation of our fan base. It certainly was mine. The disappointment started to set in last season. We failed to beat any top teams, revealing that ,contrary to expectation, we weren't really a top team; then UCLA knocked us out in the round of 16. My point is performance didn't meet expectation, for whatever reason. If you read the blogs and forums for other teams, that's the consensus rap on Texas these days: playing below the potential of the talent. I don't know if that's fair or not. I do think a lot of the talent just didn't perform as expected. Joyner Holmes just hasn't developed to meet expectations. I don't blame anyone for that, and I don't blame the player; but its the truth. Other top rated recruits didn't meet expectations and left.
This season we obviously regressed. We lost to teams we were supposed to beat, but we couldn't rise up to beat anyone ranked higher. We certainly aren't a bad team by any means. But compared to our expectations in recent years, we backslid badly. It wasn't all injuries or losing Brooke and Ariel, either. Top teams replenish themselves. Baylor, UConn, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Mississippi State----all found a way to rise above injuries and personnel loses. We did not. Now we aren't even the second best team in the Big 12. And unless new arrivals rejuvenate us, Collier matures into a star, and Sedona and LaShann overcome their injuries to play well at full speed, we may not match up that well against several other teams in the Big 12 next season. Sports is funny. Next year's new arrivals might combine with our current players to build a really strong team. Who knows? But yeah, right now I'm disappointed.
