2018 Transfer Season

Vivian Gray transferring to Oklahoma State. That's a good get for them.
Yep, sure it. I really liked her coming out of HS and was surprised when she declined the Div 1 offers to go to Fort Lewis.
Vivian has the height to play the four at 6-1 although, depending on her quickness and footwork on D, she could also play the SF. She and her sister will play together three years since they were both freshmen last season although Olivia was a RS Frosh. If both were offered, it was most likely to get Vivian on campus although Olivia could surprise.

Wow, the Vivian Gray transfer is a surprise to me too. She had a great year at DII Fort Lewis, was the conference freshman of the year and many thought she should have been the conference player of the year but was a 1st team all conf. selection. Her sister was not a huge factor on their college team, not sure if she will ever get in a game at OSU, maybe she will surprise us though. Since she is transferring up won't she be immediately eligible?
Should be eligible immediately moving from DII to DI. Sedona’s high school team fell to Argyle in the state semi and final rounds - might be looking for a little payback at the college level though I think they’re friends off the court:

Sour grapes? Maybe. But as much as I liked Rellah's seemingly effortless offensive game, and rebounding, she could never guard anyone defensively. At least, not Sweet Sixteen quality defense.

Could she have improved over time? Probably. This is the sad part we will never know.

see, that is the part that I disagree with. Was she our best defensive player? No, but she certainly showed improvement when she came back from her first suspension. Much better foot movement and understanding of team defense.

And, unless she completely bombs at her new school, she will have a chance to show what she is capable of in her final two years of college ball. Most likely like not at Texas but I doubt that she drops off the face of the earth. The sad part I think you are referring to is that she will not be doing that here at Texas.

Her decision to come to Texas did not work out for either party. No reason to be bitter about her decision that a different environment would be better for her.

Vanderbilt losing 3 including a Wing (Whalen) who shot almost 50% from 3 in high school. Whalen was ranked in the top 50 in the 2016 class and both she and Overbeck made the All SEC Freshman team the season before this one.

Overbeck, from California, transferring to Southern Cal.

Chloe Jackson was only a 27% three point shooter for LSU last season; so, she must have gotten most of her 18 points a game by driving to the basket (or mid-range jump shooting). I'd take her simply to add more experience and scoring punch to our back court, especially if we plan to play a 3-guard offense again.

Is Chloe a graduate transfer? There is a question mark about that in Raoul's post.
Well, I think she spent one year at NC State, and sat out a year at LSU. So, there's a chance she'd graduate this semester.

Now that I think about it, she has no transfer year to sit out since she already used it. So, would have to be a graduate transfer.

I don't know why but I still find it a bit surprising when I see an athlete who is transferring for a 3rd (and in a few instances even 4th!) time. If there are going to be any changes made to transfer rules in the future, that might be one area to take a look at.

Re Boykin:
2015-2016: Freshman—fall at UConn; spring at Penn State (transferred in January 2016)
2016-17: RS Freshman—fall-sat out due to transfer rule; spring: played for Penn State
2017-18: RS Soph—played for Penn State
2018-19: RS Jr—transferred to WVU.

I guess my only question is whether she plays next season or has to sit out and lose a year of playing time since she has already used a RS year. If she has to sit out next season, she should be graduating in the spring of 2019 and could play for WVU as a graduate, I guess.

She was the leading rebounder for Penn State although she didn’t score much, 5.8 ppg on 42.3% from the field.

Mike Carey has been busy!

As a grad transfer, Moore will be eligible to play next season for WVU. It's interesting that she was the starting PG for South Carolina this past year.

She wasn't the starting point guard. She sat out this past season with an ACL tear. Harris has been the PG since her freshman year and with her back, #1 pg in 2018 Destanni Henderson, and Te'a Cooper now elgible playing time would've been hard to come by. I'm glad she's being coached by Mike Carey though! He's a good guy and a great coach!

Thank you for the backstory on Moore. I understand the reasons for her transfer now.

Knew she sat this year but what sticks in my mind about her was playing absolutely suffocating, ball denial D on Morgan William in last year’s NC game.

Agreed! She has always been an harassing ball hawk. Hurts that she's leaving but I'm glad she's found a place where she'll be happy.

I remember after we beat WVU soundly that Carey commented that WVU needed to get better players; I guess he meant it.

Oddly, both these recent transfers to WVU were on the down-low. Neither announced publicly that they were transferring from their current school (or had gotten their release), and yet their transfer-to school is announced at the same time they reveal their departure.

I think she will lose a year when sits out 2018-19, and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

A&M's Danni Williams also grad-transferring. I believe we recruited her out of high school. She could really help us with some 3-point shooting.

Dang, Danni Williams transferring out of a&m is a shock! She hardly came off the floor for Coach Blair and she seemed like a perfect fit for his offense. Can not imagine where the unhappiness is coming from in aggieland. They had a great year and really over achieved in my opinion plus the potential for next year's team looked fantastic. Chennedy Carter took a lot of the spot light and recognition for the team but it was certainly well deserved. I just have to question how these 2 grad transfers think they can land in a better situation???

Those seeking greener pastures probably have their own reasons, and perhaps different than what outsiders (like us) think those reasons may be.

One thing I don't think UConn needs is more wing players, so very surprised Danni thinks she will play more at UConn. But, perhaps she is willing to sacrifice minutes on the court for something that is more important to her.
