2018 season - Volleyball

Horns take down BU 3-0. That first set was a mishap waiting to happen. Both wire lots of service errors. Thankfully, BU had a few more than Texas and Horns pulled it out 25-23. The other two sets were not that close.
Love that we got so many weapons all along the line. Just realized that I don't recall Yaasmeen at all. Maybe that's why we saw a lot of Katarina. Still have at least two frosh, mostly three frosh on the floor at all times.

Once we got past the first set, the remainder of the game was total annihilation. Pressley is the only dangerous weapon Baylor has, and she is very dangerous, but not enough to overcome our total team talent.

I thought Gaylor was a little overrated. The only real team they've beat is Wiscy and I watched a bit of that. Wiscy looked like they just finished a 72 hr drinking binge. It wasn't the same Wiscy Texas played.
They just got beat by Tceh, lost to UTRGV and needed 5 to beat UTSA. Top 25 teams just don't do that.

Texas goes to 3-0 in Big 12 play as they mow down WVU in straight sets, 25-18, 25-15 & 25-19.:hookem2:
Micaya's 14 kills gives her 149 kills for the season and 982 for her career. She is about to hit 1,000 career kills soon. She has a chance to reach the school's top ten in career kills by the end of this season. Dawn Davenport (1,310) and Janine Gremmel (1,306) are currently ninth and tenth, respectively, on that list.

Micaya (14 kills) and Brionne (10 kills) were the only Horns to reach double digit kills. Logan (9 kills), Katarina (6 kills) and Morgan (5 kills) rounded out a pretty balanced scoring set of players for Texas. Ashley had two kills and 35 assists while Sydney had 13 digs and 3 assists. As a team, Horns had six service aces with Brionne and Ashley each with two.

I noticed that Micaya has changed her service for, I believe the third time this season. She served without jumping at all, just taking a step forward while still pretty far back from the end line. Almost all of her serves were playable with only one going out of bounds and I didn't see any hit into the net. Not as hard a serve but much better accuracy in putting it into play.

Congrats to Micaya on reaching the 1000 kills threshold and to Texas for winning a very tough 5 set game versus TCU in Fort Worth. And I really don't care that she scored a thousand kills under different rules than others. That will continue to happen all the time with continuing rule changes. Reaching a 1000 kills in less than three full seasons is a tremendous accomplishment.

That setting last night was a mess.
What's going on in Texas's practice's.
There need's to be a change somewhere.

Horns dropped their first league game in the last 25 league games (2016-17 season).
Very poor first set. You name it, Texas whiffed on it: defense, offense, blocks (lack there of), energy. Better in the second set but still looking bad. Came back strong in the third to win that set. Fourth was disappointing as Horns came out fast, building a large lead but that slowly was erased as Kansas ended up winning by two, 25-23. Disappointing loss because of the way they played the first two sets but first loss since 2016-17. Had to happen sometime. Time for Horns to regroup and start another winning streak. This does play a bit of havoc with efforts to finish in top four for playoffs. It will depend on how others in front do now.

Horns pulled out a win over OU in five sets, 3-2.
This win kept the Horns (6-1) in second place in the Big 12 behind Kansas (6-0).

Next game for Texas is next Saturday at 1 PM vs Tech in Gregory. The game will be on the LHN.

Texas sweeps ISU in Ames, 3-0, to go to 8-1 in Big 12 play and 13-4 for the season. Horns remain in first place over Kansas (6-2).

Volleyball vs Texas on 10/6/2018 - Iowa State University Athletics
ISU made it interesting all three sets but the Horns were able to pull away slowly to win all three sets convincingly. Logan registered a double double with 12 kills and ten digs. Micaya had nine kills and 12 digs. I really thought she had double digit kills. Guess I am just used to her getting them.

Okay, the AAS story credits Micaya with 12 kills, not nine and Logan with only four digs. Not sure who is right. :confused2: But I am going to stick with the official boxscore stats.

Micaya White and freshman Logan Eggleston each had 12 kills to lead Texas to the win. Eggleston had just one attacking error as she hit .458 on the night. She added four digs and two blocks.

Another tough game. Horns swept through the first set, 25-15. But hitting started going down in the last two sets but Horns had enough to pull both out, especially with some help from OU service errors. :hookem2:

Longhorns volleyball gets third straight sweep | Hookem.com
The Longhorns volleyball team picked up a third straight sweep in Big 12 action, topping Oklahoma 25-15, 25-20, 25-23 at Gregory Gym Saturday afternoon....The Longhorns volleyball squad will next face TCU Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Gregory Gym.

Horns beat TCU 3-1. Horns were almost perfect in the first set, the opposite in the second and gutted out the fourth set to win the match. :hookem2:

Horns improve to 15-4 & 10-1.

It will be a week off games before two home games next week: vs KSU on Wed. 11/07 at 7 PM and vs KU on Sat. 11/10 at 7 PM. Both games will be on the LHN.

The match was slightly depressing to me.......considering TCU’s best player was out. Shook was pulled after second set loss and Gabriel did a good job thereafter with Shook not getting back in. This is the second time recently (Kansas) that Elliot did that. The announcers speculated that Elliot will give tough practices over the next week to see who he starts at setter next Wednesday. I think he goes back to Shook but his actions say he is frustrated with inconsistent setting and he will change. Not particularly encouraging with playoffs soon.

Since the change was made at setter, I guess that is where Jerritt figured the problem was. But to me it looked like the MBs, especially Brionne, were caught unawares several times when they were set by Ashley.

I am awfully glad that we got a reliable second option at setter. And that Jerritt is not afraid to make a change.

Yes....the MB were bad. I thought it was Morgan Johnson who struggled. She had 6 errors on 16 attacks for a negative 0.033 percentage or something like that. Butler was at least a positive percentage. I didn’t try and determine if it was Johnson or Shook but a little of both. Since Elliot tool Shook out perhaps that is an indicator. On the other hand Johnson rotates out and Shook never does so that factors in. Enough of that speculation.......just fix it soon. On the other hand.........I wonder if Elliot stays with Shook for next year and the year after. I speculated internally that the setter situation had an influence on Sun leaving for Nebraska. Probably not fair to say, but at my age......I kinda am unfiltered.

Horns beat KSU 3-0. With Jhenna getting the start over Ashley, Texas started four freshmen, three true frosh and one redshirt freshman.
