2018 Recruiting - WBB

Always good to make the cut for a recruit. Jessika Carter is obviously gonna leave her home state of Georgia for college; seems like Tennessee and NC State are closest in proximity.

For the out of state prospects still considering us (Scott-Grayson and Carter), will be interesting to see if/when they schedule official visits to our campus; don't believe either has made any type of unofficial visit in the past.

Serious question concerning our apparent capacity to grant another 'ship, in spite of our ability to count to 15. Does the Joyner Holmes dismissal open up a scholarship, even though Joyner will be reinstated for the Spring semester? I suppose it is even possible Joyner will not be a scholarship player for the Spring, considering the circumstances.

All we can do is assume Joyner rejoins the program in mid-December as announced. That being said, my opinions regarding the scholarships available for the 2018 class are:

- A fifth-year senior like Jatarie or Khaleann has already informed Coach A that they won't be using their final year of eligibility

- One of the reported verbals won't be on scholarship

- Some other non-senior on the current roster won't be returning for the 2018-19 season

There are several different scenarios that could play out and affect the number of available scholarships. Thus, all the speculation is just that. Pretty sure Karen & Co know what they're doing. :hookem:

Hoopgurlz still shows Lolo:

Wonder who Mulkey is going to vacuum up? She seems to be in wait mode. Usually by this time, she's getting close to loading up her list:

Looks very athletic. What are our chances of landing her?
Statistically speaking, 25% as we one of four finalists along with Baylor, Miss. State, and Florida State.

Not much has been stated about what she is looking for in a school, so I have no idea what factors will weigh into her decision. For us and Baylor, proximity is one advantage we have over the other two finalists.

Baylor is in it for several out of state players, including two from Arizona (Binkle and Chavez). Aquira DeCosta out of California recently replaced California with Southern Call, and added them to finalists Baylor, Tennessee, Louisville, and South Carolina. So, it seems likely that she is headed out of state, and Baylor is closest school. Those are 3 out-of-staters they could easily land.

Other out-of-staters like Christyn Williams of Arkansas and Honesty Scott-Grayson out of New Jersey will be harder pulls for Mulkey.

In state, in addition to Egbo, they appear to be finalists for Nalyssa Smith. Smith visited South Carolina officially back in April. And, she is reportedly on an official visit to Ohio State right now. Her latest plans are to announce her commitment on September 1st (which is Labor Day weekend). If she makes an official visit to Baylor that weekend, chances are high that she will commit to Mulkey. We'll find out soon if she makes an official visit to Louisville and/or Baylor prior to Labor Day weekend.

I'll be shocked if Nalyssa Smith doesn't go to Baylor. (I hope to be shocked.)

Me too. Her visit to South Carolina in April is no longer fresh on her mind. I think it comes down to SC v BU but Baylor wins her signature.

I can live with them getting Smith. It's DeCosta that worries me the most.

After having taken only one official visit to South Carolina back in April one week after they won the national title, thing went pretty quite with no other official visits for Nalyssa. To me, it sure seemed to indicate that South Carolina was the frontrunner. And, she sure does tweet and retweet a lot about the Gamecocks.

Being on her official visit to Ohio State, that leaves two weeks for possible official visits to Louisville and Baylor. Mulkey works hard to ensure she gets the last official visit, so I'm assuming she'll be at Baylor last. But, there's not guarantee she takes anymore official visits.

I will be shocked if chooses anyone other than South Carolina or Baylor. Just my opinion, but she seems enamored with Staley and USC. Reminds me of Kelsey Bone's recruitment.

2018 Commits:
Sedona Prince
Shae Routt
Joanne Allen-Taylor
Audrey Warren

Off the top of my head, targets that haven't officially eliminated Texas (that I know of):
Nalyssa Smith
Queen Egbo
Honesty Scott-Grayson
Lolo Davenport
Christyn Williams
Jessika Carter

Who am I missing, @Moooooo ?
Maybe Mattie Williams

You pretty much nailed it, DFW.

Madison Williams would be the other recruit as she did attend our summer camp.

While not all recruits update their lists of schools under consideration, I don't get the feeling we are still involved with Nalyssa Smith (she indicated we weren't in her top 4).

Queen Egbo will hopefully announce her list of finalists soon, so that could tell us if we are still under consideration.

Honesty Scott-Grayson recently announced we were still under consideration.

Lolo Davenport, who decommitted prior to our summer camp but still attended, could still be an option, but I'm not feeling it. I believe she is cousins with Baylor freshman, Trinity Oliver, and 2019 Baylor commit, Jordyn Oliver. Perhaps Baylor showed her interest early this summer and that led to her opening up her recruitment. Again, I am speculating on where things might stand.

Christyn Williams, who added as back us her 6th school under consideration after previously having eliminated us, did attend our summer camp. But, perhaps she has since let our coaches know that she was moving in a different direction, and that led to our recent commits from Allen-Taylor and Warren,. Of course, we could still be holding a spot for her.

Jessika Carter out of Georgia hasn't trimmed her list from her prior top ten or so. I'm not feeling this one unless she schedules an official visit with us for the Fall.
Lolo is not related to Trinity Oliver, just a friend, however Jordyn Oliver is like her Lil sis!

Thanks for posting on this site, lolomama. Enjoyed your insight. Don't be a stranger.
Thank you. I love getting and giving information and hope and pray all these girls get to go to a school that they love and where they can contribute in winning a championship title.

I love Lolomama's attitude, just hoping every kid ends up somewhere they are happy and gets to make a contribution to the game they love. If we don't get Lolo, based on reading Hoopgurlz description, Madison Williams sounds like a wonderful player.

You all probably know this, but I just discovered Prospect Nation has Madi Williams as their #8 ranked player. They list her as 6"1, but Hoopgurlz says 5'10".

ESPN hoopgurlz is done by 1 person where as Prospectnation is done by a team of 11. They all come together a vote on the rankings. Prospectnation staff used to be hoopgurlz until ESPN cut there budget. That's when they all left and started Prospectnation. ESPN believe it or not do not own a McDonald's nor a Naismith vote where as Prospectnation own several with both. This is why I usually look and go with what Prospectnation says at the end. Not saying I don't look at espn, but it holds very little when it comes to the girls side of the game.

Not that I'm holding out hope of us landing Christyn Williams, but she has scheduled official visits to Tennessee for September 23rd and Notre Dame for September 30th. Can't imagine that she won't visit UConn officially (and probably during their First Night practice weekend).

That leaves two official visits among UCLA, Baylor, and Texas.
