2018 Recruiting - WBB

some top talent in District 17 in the Houston area:
http://girlzprepreport.com/
Sierra Fuller (Cy Lakes) Desiree White (Langham Creek) and Tia Tolbert (Cy Springs).... Fuller, one of the top long ball threats in her class, White, long and athletic with the ability to get wherever she wants whenever she wants and Tolbert, definitely one of the state’s top scorers, ...and with a year of varsity already under their belt, even bigger things are ahead

JoAnne Taylor (Cy Falls) simply went off right after the opening tip of the season and never looked back. That pull-up is a monster and what’s even scarier is her ability to relentlessly attack the basket and score with players hanging on her. D’Asia Collins (Cy Ranch) is simply from another planet as she came in and made the adjustment at the one, you know, where the game starts, and immediately showed she belonged. You can’t teach poise or BB-IQ, she simply has “it” but when you talk about players with the “it” factor, look no further than 6’3 Catherine Reece (Cy Woods). How good is she? Well she nails the midrange with ease, can score in the paint, rebounds on both ends, runs the floor and started on the state champion team; oh she’s 75 inches tall

Sedona Prince has transferred from Faith Christian back to Liberty Hill. We really need her to re-commit. Not sure what our plans are for recruiting true centers in 2017, but not signing one in 2016 leaves me scratching my head (unless Hattis, Aborowa, or the Goudreau twins will be backing up Lang at Center).

I agree. I would like to see her recommit. Based on last season and the few practices I have seen this year, our posts are interchangeable. While Imani and Kelsey are listed as Cs and the rest as Fs, the main difference has been how far away from the basket they get. All play the high low with everyone switching depending on how the play is progressing. Right now, Mide has offensive skills more suited to playing closer to the basket like Imani and Kelsey. It wouldn't surprise me to see Mide be Kelsey's main backup next season although it is likely that we will also see, for example Jordan and Joyner in the post, neither of which a true C.

Keep an eye on the name Queen Egbo. The 6'2 post player at Fort Bend Travis is a rebounding machine. Averaged a double-double last season as a freshman.

I do hope Tatum Veitenheimer is under strong consideration:

I would be surprised if Tatum isn't #1 on Coach Aston's PG list for the class 2018 (which should definitely include a point). She camped at Texas and seemed to hit it off with Alecia:

She's also taken visits Tennessee and Aggy.

If Texas doesn't sign a PG in 2017, then the depth chart would require a PG for 2018. These days, though, some freshman choose a school based on their chances of starting from day one; others have different priorities.

I know we've shown interest (as has everyone else) in Arkansas PG Christyne Williams; perhaps she will attend our game at UALR in person . . .

No one talks about 2018 commit Shae Routt much, but she seems to be showing out! I've seen her at a couple of our home games. She was sitting with Sedona Prince for the Miss. State game.

You're absolutely right. And I think it's great that she's going where she has always wanted to go, and playing for the same school her mom did will be a great thing.

not bad handles for a 6-7 post and nice outside shot. I think she would thrive in the UT offense.

yeah, disappointed Texas was not among her favorites but, as you say, it's early. No reason why we couldn't take both Tatum and Zay and Sedona. We should have five ships available for 2018.

I really want Queen Egbo to be part of our 2018 signing class:

The 23-6A girls race looks a bit different after last week, with Travis defeating Hightower and Austin to move into second place. The Lady Tigers earned their biggest win of the season Jan. 19, defeating Hightower 63-51 to hand the Lady Hurricanes their first league loss. Queen Egbo dominated inside with 20 points, 27 rebounds and 11 blocks

love the name: Queen Egbo.
a link to last summer evals. I really want Tatum to come to Texas. Hope having Heather as her coach gives us a leg up.

Queen Egbo (CyFair Premier Blue) – is a 6’2” 2018 forward. Egbo is an extremely long armed athlete with a lot of game. Egbo is a very good vertical leaper who uses that ability to finisher over defenders. Egbo has very good hands and is a tremendous rebounder on both ends of the floor. Egbo is an elite shot blocker from the weakside.
Tatum Veitenheimer (Texas Elite Adidas 17U Franey) – is a 5’8” 2018 guard. Veitenheimer is an elite point guard who makes whatever play is needed to win games and imposes her will on games. An ultimate competitior, Veitenheimer is a tremendous penetrator with excellent court vision. Veitenheimer is phenomenal in the open court, finishes through and over contact well and has a nice stroke from 3. Veitenheimer is an elite on ball defender who also plays the passing lanes extremely well.

Looks like Tech got a very good post in Brittany Brewer.
Brittany Brewer (Texas Elite Adidas Franey) – is a 6’4” 2016 post. Brewer is a lefty who finishes around the bucket and also has a nice touch out to 12-15 feet. She is a sneaky athlete with terrific hands whose ability to leap helps her finish over opponents. Brewer is and strong rebounder on both ends of the floor, and does an excellent job of contesting shots from the weak side on the defensive end.
