2018 Recruiting - Football

Something else on Brandon Kennedy -- He took at RS his freshman year (2015) and then a medical RS in 2017. He graduated from Alabama in December. So he has 3 years of eligibility left eventhough he has been at Alabama 3 years already

Under the old rules, if he were to sit out a year at a SEC school, he would lose a year of eligibility (unless the NCAA allowed a waver)

And he can play center too

Whelp --

The Southeastern Conference voted Friday to allow graduate students to transfer immediately among its member schools, eliminating the one year so-called “residency” requirement that previously stood in place.

Additionally, the SEC will allow any student-athlete at a school that has been placed on a postseason ban to transfer immediately within the conference.

The NCAA is currently considering whether to end the process of schools and coaches blocking an athletes from transferring or dictating where they may go. Under the NCAA proposal, schools would be free to contact athletes when they notify their current coaches, along with stricter tampering rules and the creation of an NCAA-wide database which lists athletes who could be recruited.

As it stands now, SEC schools may still block intra-conference transfers. But Sankey said “those rules may change” under the new NCAA transfer model.

The NCAA would probably end up losing the next lawsuit when a student wants to transfer. They're getting ahead of the ball on this one. For once.

And Rondale Moore at Purdue
They are saying he is a starter from game one

I listen to Sirius/XM CFB channel all the time.

One of the hosts, Coach Neuheisal has a sound bite where he says “its not the kids you don’t get that beat you, it’s the kids you do get that don’t live up to your initial evaluation”

Food for thought at least

We lost Moore, but we picked up Joshua Moore, and by all accounts he is going to be pretty good as well.

We can't take everyone and every once in a while we lose one that turns out to be really good.

The one thing to think about is it seems our staff has a good eye for talent. Unlike Mack at the end of his career and Charlie, we seem to be getting guys with excellent college talent, and missing on guys with excellent college talent. It's a good sign for when we start to close on more of our top level talent we recruit.

To me this bodes well for guys like Marques Caldwell who Texas pursued harder than some other higher rated targets at corner. At this point you won't know until he gets on campus, but I like our chances of him turning into a player.

be nice to have 5 5 stars 15 4's and 1-5 3's....

how accurate is the star ratings....look up and down most programs rosters and seems many 4 & 5's never materialize into legitimate producers.....

Statistics say that a 5 star is a 50/50 chance of making an impact on the program they sign with.

4'star is about 30% chance.

3'star is about 20% chance.

Keep in mind that if a school signs nothing but 3'star players like Boise State, you will have a much higher hit rate for 3'star guys.

I haven't seen a lot of numbers recently, but i remember a few articles that basically showed these numbers.

Rondale Moore is a total freak. He has track speed yet can also squat over 600 lbs. I suppose we can spin it as making the right identification of talent. We were on him early. And there's always the "we came in 2nd place" claim (he had a high school coach draw to Purdue otherwise we had him). We also came in 2nd for Waddle (I feel aggy just for writing that).

Like I said, it would have been nice to have gotten him, but you can't get them all, and sometimes kids want to stay closer to home. He was basically replaced with Joshua Moore, so the judgement should be made as to which of these young men has the best career. By all accounts Joshua is looking pretty good in his own right.

One more shot for 2018?

In that class, once we committed Joseph Ossai, we shut down the outside rusher offers. That included OLB/WR Maureese Wren (6'3,216) of Mesquite, another player we were interested in.

He had offers from Washington, Colorado, Piglet, Illinois, Utah, Ole Miss and Missouri, but landed at Louisiana Tech to play WR. But it did not work out there so he is looking to transfer or JUCO. Since we play LA Tech in 2019, a straight transfer to UT would not work. But if he went the intervening JUCO route, it would lift the transfer block. He was a full qualifier out of high school but the 4-2-4 transfer rule might apply to him. Baylor and TCU are also kicking the tires.

Game highlights of 2018 ATH Maureese Wren

We recruited this guy, but he committed to Alabama, then flipped to aggy at the last moment. He played as a true freshman but then suffered a neck injury and that was it

By the way, this undersized corner who dogged Epps so bad in the LA Tech game got drafted in the 4th round

Great point, gotta tip the cap. Dog in the fight type of kid.
Rewatched the 2000 Holiday bowl Oregon’s Rashad Bowman undersized at about 5’8 was having a game until he got hurt.
