2018 Recruiting - Football

1. Anthony Cook, Houston Lamar (6-0, 168)
Evaluations: Practice, camp, 7v7, private workout, film
The Skinny: Cook has some of the best technique out of any cornerback in the country. He is fundamentally sound and is ready to make an immediate impact at the next level. Cook is extremely physical, has great cover skills and uses his length to his advantage. He is a true shutdown cornerback. — Holland

2. Jalen Green, Houston Heights (6-0, 171)
Evaluations: Practice, camp, 7v7, private workout, film
The Skinny: Green has the perfect build and skillset to be an elite corner at the next level. Green’s length and physical play allow him to control receivers at the line of scrimmage, and his athleticism and instincts can take away one side of the field for opposing offenses. — Roach

3. BJ Foster, Angleton (6-1, 188)
Evaluations: Camp, 7v7, film
The Skinny: Foster is coming off a torn ACL, but when he is healthy, he is arguably the top safety in the country. Foster has an excellent build with great natural instincts and a knack for making plays on the back end. He can come up an lay the boom and is a sure tackler. — Holland

4. WR Jaylen Waddle, Houston Bellaire Episcopal (5-9, 175)
Evaluations: Game, camp, 7v7, private workout, film
The Skinny: One of the most explosive slot receivers in recent memory, Waddle is a man amongst boys at the private school level. He separated himself from the pack this offseason against other elite prospects with his speed, quickness and soft hands. He is simply an electric playmaker. — Holland

5. TE Mustapha Muhammad, FB Ridge Point (6-4, 235)
Evaluations: Practice, camp, 7v7, film
The Skinny: Muhammad is a complete tight and has all the tools to make an immediate impact at the next level. Muhammad has great hands and runs excellent routes for his size. He is deceptively athletic and often acts as his quarterbacks’ security blanket. Muhammad is also a formidable blocker. — Holland

6. S Caden Sterns, Cibolo Steele (6-1, 192)
Evaluations: Game, practice, camp, 7v7, private workout, film
The Skinny: Sterns is one of the most versatile defensive backs in the nation. The Texas commit has the skills to play safety, nickel and cornerback at the next level, and he shows the best instincts in the state when it comes to reading quarterbacks and breaking on passes. — Roach

7. S DeMarvion Overshown, Arp (6-4, 200)
Evaluations: Practice, film
The Skinny: One of the biggest risers of the offseason, Overshown is a monster athlete with unlimited potential. The Texas commit has eye-popping size and length and is versatile enough to play safety or outside linebacker at the next level. His ceiling might be higher than any other recruit in this class. — Holland

8. WR Brennan Eagles, Alief Taylor (6-3, 214)
Evaluations: Camp, 7v7, film
The Skinny: Eagles declared himself as a major prospect with eye-popping testing numbers during spring camps. Eagles has a huge build with great straight-line speed and incredible body-control which allows him to threaten defenses vertically and over the middle. — Roach

9. WR Al’vonte Woodard, Houston Lamar (6-1, 193)
Evaluations: Practice, camp, 7v7, film
The Skinny: Woodard has a fantastic build, and great natural receiving skills for a deep threat. He uses his smooth route running to set defenders up before ultimately accelerating past them. He shows the versatility to play both inside and outside. — Roach

....continued

12. CB D’shawn Jamison, Houston Lamar (5-10, 174)
The Skinny: Jamison is one of the most versatile prospects in the state. He is at his best when covering receivers in the slot, but he also has the tools to create his own island on the outside. Jamison is an ideal fit as a nickel back at the next level. — Holland

13. DT Keondre Coburn, Spring Westfield (6-1, 329)
The Skinny: Coburn is the ideal fit at nose tackle in a 3-4 defensive scheme. The Texas commit is a massive force in the trenches that takes up multiple defenders and allows players behind him to make plays. Coburn is powerful and often causes disruption in the backfield as well. — Holland

15. RB Keaontay Ingram, Carthage (6-1, 187)
The Skinny: There is nothing flashy about Ingram, but the Texas commit is as durable as they come. Ingram is a powerful, downhill runner with tremendous vision and patience for his age. He is an every down back and will be a workhorse at the next level. — Holland

24. TE Malcolm Epps, Spring Dekaney (6-5, 218)
The Skinny: Epps is a massive prospect with high-end athleticism and vertical ability. He has a tremendous catch radius due to his length, but he must work to become a complete tight end. — Roach

26. DE Joseph Ossai, Conroe Oak Ridge (6-4, 220)
The Skinny: Ossai has great length and ability to bend as an edge rusher. His first-step is explosive, and he’s a difficult player for opposing offenses to plan for. He likely projects as a 3-4 outside linebacker. — Roach

27. OT Rafiti Ghirmai, Frisco Wakeland (6-4, 290)
The Skinny: Ghrimai is an athletic offensive line prospect who is still growing into a big frame. The Texas commit plays with a mix of intelligence and tenacity on the field. His skillset should translate to a future at guard or right tackle. — Roach

33. ILB Bumper Pool, Lovejoy (6-2, 213) -- I just liked the name, and he grew up to be an ILB
The Skinny: Pool is an old school inside linebacker that lives for contact. While there isn’t any one thing that stands out, Pool does exactly what you need him to in the middle and is a sure tackler. The Arkansas commit is also underrated in coverage. — Holland

40. OLB Byron Hobbs, Fort Worth Eastern Hills (6-3, 204)
The Skinny: Hobbs is still filling out his huge frame, but he shows the potential to be a future star on defense if he can bring it all together. The Texas commit is slated to play outside linebacker, but if he continues to add size he’d be an ideal edge-rushing candidate. — Roach

50. OT Reese Moore, Seminole (6-6, 265)
The Skinny: Moore is projected to play on the offensive line at Texas, but he currently stars at tight end for Seminole. Moore will need to keep adding weight to his body while working to develop his technical ability, but he has the size and athletic ability to develop into a strong tackle prospect. — Roach

Tony Hills "Junior"

I seem to recall a high TE that Coach Royal moved to OT. He was serviceable, but not sure what happened to him

Anybody know what happened to David Studdard? :hookem2:

5-star CB target Anthony Cook announced his commitment date -- October 30
Texas, LSU or tOSU

Maybe he wasn't impressed with the score being Indiana 14 Ohio St 13 at halftime and wants to climb a board with the good guys :hookem:.

tOSU does have 87% of the CBs, and there has not been a CB to us since Feb
I hate it. There were highly ranked Texas kids all over the field for tOSU last night

Yeah, and Tom Herman started that particular trend. Time to shut it down, pronto!

It has begun already
We beat Ohio St., Michigan, LSU, Stanford and Florida for Foster
......

We beat Bama, Clemson, Florida, LSU, FSU, Ohio St, ou, aggy and USC for Eagles
And so on ......

Besides the two above and according to the kids, Ohio State also offered (or at least has "high interest" in) Green, Woodard, Overshown, Ingram and Epps
That is in-state #s 2, 4, 5, 9, 10, 18 and 23. We have verbals from all of them. That is 6 of the in-state Texas top 10, with a shot still at both Cook and Waddle (#s 1 and 7 per 247)
We did not sign anyone in the top 10 last season.
Cook appears to be the one top 10 in-state recruit Ohio St is in on this year.

While not yet completely "sealing the border," it's an improvement over the many several seasons. The last time we had 6 or more of the in-state 247 top 10 from Texas was 2007

If any spaces open up fill them with big aggresive linemen. Trench warfare wins football games, ant Texas hasnot been doing this vry much lately.

Rondale Moore -- Moore finished with 22 receptions (school record) for 304 yards (school record) + 3 TDs

Some comments from who EJ Holland describes as a "prominent high school source" post Maryland game --

"Texas staff needs to make early playing time the biggest part of its pitch. (lol- no kidding). Texas is very fortunate to have both Caden Sterns and BJ Foster committed and ready to enroll early .... both prospects have the talent and the tools to come in and play right away on a secondary that was subpar against Maryland .... has no clue how Brandon Jones was the top safety in the country in 2016. Texas needs to prepare for the worst and start or continue to develop relationships with mid-tier in-state targets in case you know what hits the fan, and Texas has a losing season. ....."

More Holland --

Expects Bobby Brown to Alabama.

"Wouldn’t be surprised" if Dominick Wood-Anderson flips soon

Bama may also be moving in on Keondre Coburn

Another home game with some key visitors

2018
WR Jaylen Waddle, Episcopal (Bellaire, TX)
DE Ronnie Perkins, Lutheran North (Saint Louis, MO)
DE Daniel Carson, William Chrisman (Independence, MO)
OL Reese Moore, Seminole (Seminole, TX) - COMMIT
K Cameron Dicker, Lake Travis (Lake Tavis, TX) - COMMIT

2019
WR Jordan Whittington, Cuero (Cuero, TX)
TE Thomas Gordon, Strake Jesuit (Houston, TX)

CBs for Rondale Moore starting to flip to Purdue (Purdue's head coach attended the same high school as Moore)
And Moore has removed Texas stuff from his twitter account

If you are wondering if this is related to Waddle (Bellaire), who is visiting this weekend, he only has 13 CBs total with a plurality to FSU. He has 3 this month, the most recent one to us
