2017 Recruiting?

– Toneil Carter: Per multiple reports, Georgia RB commit Toneil Carter will no longer officially visit Texas this weekend. I have not been able to confirm through Carter. I was told by a source that UGA HC Kirby Smart is heading to Houston today for his in-home visit with Carter and the plan was to convince him not to visit Texas this weekend.

247 is reporting that Texas actually cancelled the visit. We can confirm this via sources on the Texas side of things. – (Andrew)

– More on the RB Situation: Related to the note above, can’t say much but Texas is working hard on a particular in-state RB. Said back would prefer to be the lone RB in the class wherever he ends up. Keep your eyes and ears open. Things could happen fast. – (Super K)

OrangeBloods reporting UT is attempting to get Eno Benjamin on campus this weekend since he's an early enrollee.
 
Marvin Wilson: During the season, Episcopal (TX) 5-star DT Marvin Wilson said that if Texas HC Charlie Strong was fired he would eliminate the Longhorns in his recruitment. Most didn’t fully buy it, and I wouldn’t say Texas is 100% out of it for him but it’s not looking good for Texas at all right now. Texas coaches were at his school for a second time yesterday to meet with him and OT Walker Little, but Wilson still has yet to agree to an in-home visit with the Longhorns and it’s not sure thing one will happen.

I spoke to a source close to Wilson who told me schools like, “Ohio State, LSU, Florida State, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M are better bets right now”. But to me, as of today it’s a two-team race between LSU and Ohio State. There has always been talk that his mom wanted him closer to home, but the fact that Ohio State landed his good friend LB Baron Browning and are expected to land another big recruit from Texas in Jeffrey Okudah gives the Buckeyes a real shot in this one. Then with LSU, Wilson loved coach Ed O when he was the DL coach in Baton Rouge so he’s obviously very interested in the Tigers program.

Obviously things could change as Wilson doesn’t plan to announce until NSD, and if Texas can land his teammate 5-star OT Walker Little that could help as well but it’s not looking great at the moment. – (Andrew)

We just did a home visit with ....
Were they just being polite, hosting Herman & staff?
Or, does the timing mean something else?

Doesn't make sense, to want to play for a coach which hasn't proven he can produce a winning season, and if that coach is fired to go to elsewhere instead of playing for a guy that more likely than not will have winning records.

How long have you followed recruiting? Some bizarre things happen, such as:

1) "I always wanted to be an Oklahoma State Cowboy" - Hart Lee Dykes. When quizzed, Hart Lee had never visited the school, didn't know where it was located, but it was his "dream school" but we'll never know if that MB AMG was his dream car.

2) Then there was Willis Mackey, choosing between OU and Texas, then signing with Washington.

3) Keith Jackson wanting to go to Texas, his mother wanting him to go to Arkansas, and they compromised on OU, a school that never threw to the TE.

4) Johnny Hector choosing between ONLY LSU and Texas, with an LSU coach babysitting him, then disappearing for three weeks, only to resurface having signed with RC.

5) Terry Watkins leaving Austin with our assistant (can't really call the guy a coach) to fly home to Tallahassee to get momma's signature, and being "kidnapped" by Florida coaches at the airport and signing with the Gators.

I think Wilson and his family liked Charlie Strong a lot. I'm not convinced he was going to come to UT if Strong had stayed since Wilson had apparently not made up his mind yet. But since Wilson liked Charlie personally, he threw his support to him in the only way he knew how, by saying he wouldn't come if Strong was fired. Then Strong was let go anyway and now Wilson has that statement out there. What's he going to do? He may be able to reconsider, but it will take some doing on his part and Herman's part.
