2017 National Signing Day

SDE Larrell Murchison went with Ole Mi$$.

Ole Miss... given all the issues that have arisen with them, it goes to show that there is no predicting what will turn the head of an 18 year old... girls? $$$? Legacy? The ease with which the parents can see their son play? SEC SEC SEC?

From ESPN concerning Damion Daniels:

"The 6-foot-2, 310-pounder from Dallas' Bishop Dunne Catholic School is the 21st-ranked defensive tackle in the Class of 2017. He'll choose from Colorado, Nebraska and UTSA at 11:25 a.m. ET"

Were we not interested in him? Or did he spurn Herman?

I keep saying it; it is disappointing that Herman didn't bring the buzz enough to land a top ten player especially when you combine it with the fact that Texas is a great school... maybe it was too late.
UH losing to Navy who proved to be meh, along with the other losses to Memphis who got B slapped in bowl game, and SMU who didn't even make a bowl had to have a negative affect on kids. They had to have doubts about him being the right guy to fix Texas.
He is going to have to go 9-3 or better this season or we will see even worse results next recruiting season. Its a catch 22.....Kids now-a-days don't want to do the hard job of building a program...They want to play for an established WINNER. How do you turn the corner when the 4 and 5 stars won't come put in the foundation ? 1) Get lucky with hidden gems like Foreman, etc....2) Get lucky on the field and upset some teams you shouldn't beat. 3) beat the teams you should. Otherwise you stay mediocre. 4) There is always the bagman route....Is Herman the guy ?...Probably, but this 2017 squad has to prove it on the field for the rest of the nation to see.

Not errrrbody! We better pray that we win eight or nine games next year. We have a tough schedule but I hope Herman can figure out a way to win the close ones (unlike Strong).

I’m hopeful that TH will coach 'em up this fall and get us back to winning ways. The recruits will come. I suspect a lot of guys want to be here but they need to see some progress.

So, I haven't been keeping up with the Cayleb Jones story. My recollection from what I've read is that he supposedly cold cocked a UT tennis player for dating Cayleb's ex. Maybe there was some stalking involved.

If true, I guess his Dad told Zabie that he shouldn't go to UT because they don't like it if you beat up your exe's boy friend. Nice....

I believe that Herman will be a very effective HC and put an outstanding product on the field but, and I'll probably get trashed for writing this, the class we are seeing today represent underachievement. When it comes to salesmanship, it would seem that Herman is the antithesis of Strong and even perhaps Brown. He's a bull in a china shop, compared to the very personable Strong & Brown. Personally I wonder if a more humble approach would play better, but that's just speculation on my part. I would like to see more humility but then again, Nick Saban isn't humble either...

At least on paper -- where it may not matter, this class is a disappointment.

Immature egotistical 5-star players, their handlers, their helicopter parents and self-important high school coaches...

Not for the faint of heart.

While we celebrated a borderline top 10 class last year, and are now lamenting a class that will be our lowest ranked class possibly ever, think about this: Alabama is about to sign its 7th straight number ONE recruiting class. One guy, a four star DE who could have gone anywhere in the country, accepted a gray shirt just to play for them, meaning he won't be able to join the team on scholarship until Jan. 2018. I'm just mentioning that to remind us how far we've sunk and how far we have to go We've been down so long that mediocrity will be a YUGE step up, and we may even have to linger there for a while. I just hope we don't get use to it.

so is this what $50 mill contract for Strong gets us.....was he all talk?

seemed to recruit well and stressed values but where was the coaching from top to bottom

We should have plenty of 'ships left if a graduate transfer QB becomes available.

We currently have a sophomore and a true freshman at QB, backed up by a RS freshman. That assumes Jerrod Heard stays at WR.

Jeez
Jarez Parks 4 star DE from Louisiana left the stage in tears as he was informed by Alabama right before his announcement that they didn't have room any longer for him.
He won't announce anything today

Saban showed up in a helicopter to see the kid a few weeks ago
