2017-18 schedule

Looked up the lineup from last year's Vegas tourney:
Maryland
Arizona St.
Virginia
St. John's
Washington St.
Nebraska

A couple of top 25 and PAC teams. I would expect something very similar this year - especially the PAC teams just due to proximity.

That was a good quality tournament line up. A couple of games against teams of that caliber would balance our schedule out and add to our strength of schedule. Makes the schedule more interesting.

Kansas State's schedule includes:

Nov 24 UCLA @ South Point Shootout in Las Vegas NV
Nov 25 Penn State @ South Point Shootout in Las Vegas NV

I'm happy with UW and LSU. They are both from strong RPI conferences, so that will help our RPI. They may finish middle of the pack in their respective conferences, but when you add them to UConn, Tennessee, and Florida State, it's a good mix for our five best non-conference games. I think UCLA is a Final Four contender, so it would have been great to face them; but, I'm content with UW and LSU.

UW's starting PG is also seeking to transfer, I believe.

I hate it when Texas sports conflict. This would be a fun trip out to Vegas, except for the Tech football game in Austin. A pox on the schedulers.

I'm not usually an ESPN basher when it comes to UCONN but...I would bet money that ESPN really wanted that UCONN game scheduled midseason not so much to break up UT's conference slate but to give them a reason to air a UCONN game when they would normally be strolling through the AAC with 40+ point wins.

Then again, it could give UT some help - hopefully they will have had time to really integrate Chazz and Rellah into the team.
For what it is worth, UConn always schedules a game vs a quality opponent in February. It is generally a Big Monday game for ESPN. The last few years it was South Carolina, before that it was Baylor, and before that it was Louisville I believe.

I don't have a problem with that. My comment at that time (before the date was announced) was focused on the speculative schedule date (February). It just seemed off considering it's part of a home-and-home and the first game in the series took place in the first week of December during non-conference while the second seemed like it was going to be over 2 months later during conference play. If both teams are in the Top 7 (not entirely improbable), it will be a great midseason event.

Any primetime coverage which ESPN allots to women's hoops is a positive. Obviously, UConn provides the best ratings, especially when they are on a monumental winning streak like last season; some people tune in just to see if there will be an upset. So UConn will continue to be part of these games as its in ESPN's best interest.

Most of the time, ESPN waits until college football season is over, and when as much of the NFL season is over as possible before they "free up" some primetime slots for women's hoops. It's great for our program to be part of this at home; it gives our program a chance to showcase itself in front of a national TV audience.

I think Texas swapped spots with South Carolina in terms of scheduling on the UConn calendar. Just speculation until the dates are released but, it would make sense since UConn is already in the state of Texas quite a bit during their in conference away games. Due to that fact alone it also could have been done that way to be more cost effective. Not that I don't think South Carolina will be good but even last year the Texas v. UConn game was more competitive than the South Carolina v. UConn game. I anticipate the same this coming season.

Also it would be ridiculous to expect us to match Uconn's OOC schedule because they don't play a single IN conference game that will challenge them, where we will play at least 8.

I beg to differ I think you will find SC to be just as tough especially with the game being in the CLA

SCar will still be good. Young but good. UConn's hallmark is their consistency year in and year out so their performance isn't going to change based on location however, SCar may play up, who knows? The same could be said for Texas as it pertains to youth but I think Texas will have more fire power when all is said and done. They have like 10 McDonald's AAs. If they figure out what they are trying to do on offense this year they could see a FF in the next couple years.

I know it's in the past but Texas makes the Final Four 2 years ago if not for the second year in a row being put in UCONN's bracket. They played the Huskies tougher than anyone else that tourney and were peaking at the right time but no one was going to beat Stewie, Moriah, Morgan and company that March. Usually the elite teams have to be playing their best game of the season to have a shot against UCONN but, against that team, I don't think a perfect performance would have made a huge difference.

Agreed. I was really impressed with how much better Texas had gotten from the previous year. If this roster develops, Texas could be a Top 5 team for quite some time. The offense does need some work but it seems as though they have the necessary pieces to get Texas to a FF in the very near future.

UConn will be the stronger team just based on returning talent, but I wouldn't be surprised to see us win/lose either of these games.
