2012 Presidential Debate #2 (Town Hall)

To David Gregory's credit, the moderator of Meet the Press, did call out/correct the confusion in the post-game by saying the Administration was adamant, even through his show a week later, that it was a spontaneous act of violence in response to the video.

To Gregory, it was pretty straightforward on how the Oval Office was characterizing the situation.

One obscure video from the rose garden that is most likely taken out of context does not override and entire administration pushing the idea that the attacks were based on some stupid video for at least a week. The administration's stance was clearly that it was not a terrorist attack and one vague video won't change that.

Look, I'm not a big Obama hater and often vote for dems. I'm not into team politics. He clearly said over and over again what he feels. One video where he MAY have said something different doesn't change anything for me. It's clearly an attempt to spin what he messed up. Why can't he just admit that he was wrong and move on? I would be much more likely to vote for him if he did.

Spider, the Prez said he was responsible for Libya. He stood up like a strong Commander in Chief. Romney had hoped to score points on that but didn't. Romney looked bad on immigration, Lily Ledbetter fair pay for women, having binders of women

, and again appearing crass about playing politics and accusing Obama of being uncaring about the loss of 4 lives.

Hook'em!!!

CNN sub polls showed up big for Romney.
Who do you trust more with the economy
Who do you think would reduce the deficit
Who do you think would balance the budget

Romney was well over 50% in all categories on the economy even tho they voted Obama winning the debate 46%- 39%

That's big for Romney, given we saw Obama's best performance. One more debate to go

That will be Crowley's last job moderating. I cannot believe that she backed up Obama on the terrorist act. A moderator should never interject their voice on any topic. Totally inappropriate.

Roger, you are making yourself look like a fool. Obama and his minions said for TWO WEEKS that the attack was a result of the video. They even arrested the guy who made the video. You can say again and again whatever you want, despite how ignorant you look, and it still does not change the fact that he sent people out 5 days after the attack to say that it was, it seemed, to be the result of a spontaneous protest of a video. He said it 6 times at the UN.

Why would he have done this? Because the only positive thing his administration has done in 4 years was to kill Obama. And even then he played golf until 20 minutes before the seals launched the attack so he would have deniability in case it went wrong. But he couldn't just take credit for that. He said Al Qaeda was running. And the terrorist attack would have made him look like he had put up the banner "Mission Accomplished" a little too early.

I think that they both held their own. It wasn't 63-21 like last time. But, that's a win for Romney because he's the front runner at this point. It was an especially nice job by Romney given the bias of the moderator and the preferential treatment she gave Obama.

Every time you listen to a democrat, you get dumber. I give the debate to Mitt. Obama at least showed up this time and that's 80% of it right there.

Michtex, do you ever "fact check" Obama? This whole discussion is basically about Libya, and yet you manage to change the subject to a binder. Is this your big bird moment? Why don't you "fact check" what female employees in the White House make as compared to their male counterparts. Of course you won't "report" what you find here. And you know why.

I haven't watched the debate, so I haven't formed an opinion on it yet. (I'll stream it tonight.) However, it is remarkable how the Obama supporters on this board repeatedly say Romney got his *** kicked, while the Romney supporters seem to say largely the opposite.

Every analysis I've read online suggests that Obama did a better job than he did in Round 1 (How could he not?) and that he won the debate, but nobody's calling it an ***-whippin' by anybody. It was close - more of an Obama-leaning draw. In other words, it wasn't anything like the first debate. That tells me a lot of you guys are engaging in wishful thinking.

Most people will likely see this debate through their bias. It is like for me watching a UT game. I will point out how we missed on that play or should have tackled there. Rarely do we fully give the other team credit for 'making the play'.

That being said, the post debate coverage I saw on CNN last night clearly said it was a win for Obama. Now whether they are biased or not is a fair question. King didn't give a win to either that I remember but did point out areas where Obama looked good and much better than last debate. Specifically with the 'act of terror' comment. Romney's camp had to be cringing when he brought that up. Now they are backpedalling and trying to spin it. But King's point is that it was a miss by Romney which completely changed the discussion from whether or not President Obama's administration screwed the pooch in the embassy attack to whether or not President Obama used the phrase the day after the attack. This was on clear area going in that you would have thought Romney could attack and he ended up using a poor strategy that back fired and nullified the point. They also did a good job fact checking some of the points made. Sometimes they were both right but they were misleading. That is where I would hope a moderator can step in in future debates. Obama did a good job on the 47% thing. He looked much better on the immigration, foreign policy, listing his accomplishments, comparing Romney to Bush. Romney is going to look good on the tax issues and the economy. Part of that is that he can say whatever he wants to do without listing specifics. Also we don't know if he can really do what he is saying but man it sounds good. When he starts saying, "I have a business background, and I am going to give tax breaks to small businesses and the middle class, and we are going to grow the economy, etc" even I start to get excited. But then you have to look at the plans and decide for yourself if you think those plans will actually happen or not.

Romney clearly wasn't going after the Latino vote last night. I have to think that this specific demographic is again going to be a big problem for him on election night.

It blows me away to hear someone say they take full responsibility for an event that has taken place. Obama saying he takes responsibility for Libya means absolutely NOTHING. It doen't make him look presidential or like Commander-in-Chief. It doesn't change one thing. We still have 4 DEAD Americans under his watch. Are the families of the dead supposed to be comforted by him taking responsibility? It's like me saying because I am a fan of UT football, I take responsibility for the loss to OU. It doesn't change the outcome of the game but I'm sure fellow horns feel better about the loss because I accept responsibility.

Id say BO did a better job of debating but not a better job of describing his positions. Unfortunately, speaking better wins a lot of elections.

On Libya, BO's answer will backfire in the next few days. One innocuous comment about general "terror" does not counter balance weeks of calling it something else. And he still refused to answer the question about what he knew.

I thought he gave Romney a big opening there and kind of blew it. he had to know the pres would be ready for that issue and knew he would make it look unseemly to politicize the deaths. Thus difusing the situation.

Romney answer should have been that being presidential does not mean acting somber and promising action AFTER the people are already dead. Being presidential is responding to requests for security and knowing that embassy's in the ME would be targets on every 9/11 from here until eternity and doing something about it to keep people from being killed.

This election has been over for a long while now. America is still a Christian nation, regardless of what Barack Hussein Obama says, America is still a right leaning nation, regardless of what Bill Maher might have you believe. Barry can take his family to Hawaii and everyone will be much happier.

I finished the debate a few minutes ago. I would agree with the media's general impressions that it was an Obama-leaning draw. Frankly, I thought both did pretty well. The reason why I give Obama the slight edge is threefold.

First, Romney screwed up by asking Obama questions during his time. That allowed Obama to seize some of Romney's time and blab.

Second, Romney screwed up the Libya issue. By focusing on when Obama called the attack "terrorism," he turned the issue into one of semantics rather than substance. It allowed Obama to look presidential and for Romney's point (which was a good point) to get lost.

Third, Crowley gave Obama a lot of help. She was blatantly one-sided.
