2008 Australian Open Tennis Championships

I know you boys don't really care about the women's side, but Maria played probably the best match of her career early this morning against Henin 6-4, 6-0. Their first set was the 2nd-best set of this tournament, just short of Fed's 10-8 5th. I highly recommend catching it on replay if you can...
 
One thing I hate about this tournament is the time difference. I've only watched about 4 hours of tennis. I caught the first set last night and then went to bed. It was obvious that Nadal was going to wear him down even if he lost the first set. Jarkko needed to be the aggressor to have any chance. He got a little timid I thought. His second serve was really bad. He hit a second serve that didn't even clock 70 mph. I couldnt believe that.

Nadal looked to be strong and really fresh. I'd love to catch some of the James/Federer match, but I think it'll be on in the middle of the night.
 
Rafa looked really good in the match I saw the other night. Just smoking passing shots with both players near the baselines.

Haven't seen Fed play yet but I think you are allowed to have some not so dominant matches once in awhile to lower competition. As long as he finds a way to win that's why he is a champion. He hasn't fallen off he just hasn't gotten into the groove yet.

With Rafa looking healthy again we could be set for at least 4 finals again this year.
 
I'm actually pumped for both of these mens quarterfinal matches. I think the Ferrer/Djokovic has the possibility of being the match of the tournament. I expect a 4 or 5 set long war with long drawn out baseline rallies. I say Djokovic in 4 tough sets. I also like Roger to win in 4. I'm gonna say Blake will win one of the first two sets to make it a match but then will start going for wild winners and lose the last 2. I hope I'm wrong b/c Blake has the game to beat Roger, he just needs the confidence to do it. Should be some great tennis.
 
Ivanovic grabs a 1st set tiebreak over Venus. Neither are holding serve worth a damn. What else is new!
 
Ivanovic about to serve for the match, up a break at 5-4 in the 2nd. This is no given considering how many times both have broken each other.
 
Ivanovic fought off two break points to hold a deuce game. She beats Venus 7-6 (3), 6-4. I'm actually rooting for Ivanovic. She has a good game, and is not a bad 20 year old to look at.

She'll probably beat Hantuchova in the semis, and face Sharapova in the finals. I would not mind watching a Sharapova/Ivanovic final.

Ok, now on to vy's match of choice ... Djokovic/Ferrer. This could be a real good one. If Ferro is on, this could be REALLY good. I expect Djokovic to get by though. Probably in 4 sets, maybe in 5.
 
game, set, match. once again too many damn unforced errors. pretty sloppy match.

7-6(3), 6-4. ivanovic-hantuchova semi. hotties. all 4 semifinal ladies are pretty damn hot. i like i like.

Djokovic breaks again. Ferro isn't playing bad; Novak is just painting every line. He is on right now. Ferro needs to up his first serve percentage.

Djokovic, up two breaks, serving at 4-0
 
Novak holds. Ferro just needs to regroup and get ready for the second set. If he can get his serve on, he will be very much in the second set.

Ferro, down two breaks, serving to stay in the 1st set at 0-5.
 
OK, so the bagel is on the board. It happens to everyone now and again. Refocus and start controlling the baseline. Novak looks pretty good, but Ferro gave him that set with **** errors to close.
 
Kovak holds and then Ferro holds. There you go, get on the board and then settle into the match.
 
Ferrer looks like he was happy to make it to the quarters. REally sloppy. I wonder if Djokovic hurt his knee? Looked hyper extended.
 
Phil, to me it looked like the knee too. Jenson said the ankle, but to me it looked like the knee.

Ferro is holding in this set. He's OK for now ...

Just like that, Djokovic erases the break points. If Ferro wants to win this match, he needs to grab those opportunities.

I guess I haven't seen Ferrer play in awhile but I sure thought he had more power to hit winners from the back court like Nadal but he's getting worked.
 
Novak holds and is at a commanding 5-2 lead in the 2nd. Ferro slams his stick down! He better relax hold serve ...
 
So Mike I got the matches reversed. The Blake/Federer match must be the one I was feeling would be match of the tournament. We can only hope b/c this match is horrible.
