15% tax rate for Mitt Romney

Yes, ok, point conceeded. The government HAS to tax. It is just funny how everyone is poised to pounce on Mittens for PAYING his taxes.

If that is truly your effective tax rate, I have a proposition for you. I will do your return for you free of charge. However, if I lower your effective tax rate, we split your tax savings 50-50.

Seriously though, get a new tax accountant or spend $39.99 on turbotax.

Deez, the 99.999% who don't get to retire to the Azores are going to drag you out of your villa screaming, come the Revolution! OCCUPY AZORES!! signed, the .001%

This issue probably cost Romney SC more than anything else. The voters are looking at one guy who is paying 31% taxes and another guy who is waffling (and you know they hate that) on even releasing his taxes but admitting that he probably pays around 15%.

Hornpharmd, how do you feel about candidates releasing their educational records? Seems to me like a pretty basic requirement of any professional position.

Warren Buffett, self made billionaire, author of relevant WSJ Op-Ed on this topic, expert in finance and tax matters, and subject of the criticism of many West Mall posters who feel their ideas on taxation policy are superior- comments exactly on this topic:

dheiman,

It's sad that you toss out personal insults while not understanding the comments you're commenting on.

What I'm saying, a few other posters, as well as some schmuck Warren Buffett is- although we know it's legal, it makes no sense from the perspective of both wanting to balance a budget and treat all Americans fairly. We think this carried interest break should be removed and that income treated the same as all other income. If that basic concept is too hard to understand- sorry for you.

People this successful should not be running for President. Perhaps we can find some folks hanging out on The Drag to replace Romney and his ilk.

How 'bout it McBrett?

I just looked at my 2010 return. My tax bill was 9.6% of my line 22 income. Looks like Mitt paid about 14.5% (I believe using the same calculation).
