IMO Exrleben was always the best punter in UT history, until Dickson came along and took punting to a whole new level.

Dickson was a weapon!! :hookem:

I have to agree. Never thought I would see a better punter than Erxleben, but Dicko was better.

I saw Erxleben in person a lot of times, and his punts were really a thing of beauty. You don't really get the full effect of a punt on TV. If it wasn't for the fact that it was 4th down, a lot of those punts were my favorite part of some of those games durning that period.

Remember the ungawdly 71 yard Exrleben punt vs. ou in 1977 that flipped the field?

Of all the games LHN endlessly repeats in the offseason, there is one I have never seen on the schedule, and that was Ricky's final performance in a Texas uniform. I wish those guys would show the Cotton Bowl game against Mississippi State. I want to count the number of concussions Ricky handed out that day.

On YouTube search “texas vs mississippi state cotton bowl” and the game is there in three parts

All-conference, 1962 AA. The 1962 teams record was blemished only by a 14-14 tie with Rice and the 13-0 shutout from LSU in the Cotton Bowl (above).

Edwin Simmons
Our version of Marcus Dupree in terms of on-field potential unfulfilled.
Barry Switzers “naked reverse” crack was actually pretty funny. The MOB took a swing at this incident too, and the Austin crowd responded with a good chuckle, no sabers drawn threatening cheerleaders that day.

I forget the exact joke(s), but that whole bizarre incident certainly had a big element of humor to it.

Edwin Simmons ran a naked reverse through some Austin lady’s back yard. Did you hear that Edwin Simmons got flagged running a streak? Edwin Simmons works real hard; he was even practicing running streaks long after practice time.

What an incredible athlete with a most unusual downfall.

The version of the story I heard was that he was inside doing something with someone and somebody else arrived home early and unexpected, which caused Edwin to quickly hop out the window without time to gab his clothes. I dont know if this version is true, but I like the visual it creates so I go with it.
