That SI cover of a bruising Ernie Koy vs. Bama is my favorite cover of all time!

I still don't know how Rodney Tate got that fumble back in Texas Stadium. He was at least 15th back in the pile. I asked after the game how he got the ball, he replied he knew if he didn't, he would be walking to Tulsa rather than riding to Austin. That was damn good weight training, something not seen in Austin in over thirty years.

I may be in the minority - maybe because that's my first Texas memories, but I've always loved the early '80s Akers Longhorns look. Good orange color, clean jerseys, i even like the stripe somewhat. (Not looking to go back to the stripe, btw...)

I like the stripe on the pants...

Dude, that's MY years--Mossy Cade, Todd Dodge, Ty Allert, etc---THAT is the University of Texas Jersey!! Oh yeah, Gene, Gene the Coke Machine Chilton!! I remember my brothers went on the field after a game in '84, and Gene invited them into the locker room after a game---tons of autographs, they were in awe (to say the least) ---sadly, they both went to that school in Whacko---oh well, I tell everyone they weren't SMART enough to attend THE UNIVERSITY!!

Pretty quiet around here today. I guess everybody must be wondering "Did Tom tell or not?" or just studying up for tomorrow's number. Anyway, here's a smorgasbord of 21's.....

'84 Auburn game is on right now on LHN---yep, that jersey (and burnt orange shade) is sweet!!

^^^^ The 1984 season started well... vick trees over Auburn & State Penn, etc. and then that gawd awful 15-15 tie with the dirt burglars in a monsoon rainstorm

.... things went mostly downhill after that.

Like 60 and 10 among others, 19 has been a good number for us as we will see hopefully as the day goes on.
But this play is one of about a half-dozen that will always bring a smile to my face. I can almost taste the salt from aggy tears.

If that is the 64 Cotton Bowl, #20 is Anthony King.
I couldn’t find a pic of Scooter (#2 on my all-time list of favorite SWC names behind Baylor’s Tommy Turnipseed) but I offer a consolation prize:

I thought that was the '69 team, not the '63 team. Then I did some research on helmet styles, and the '63 teams had the player numbers above the Longhorn logo. I stand corrected.

In 1969 we had a kicker name Happy Feller and a punter named Scooter Monzingo - 2 great names!!

Monzingo took over the punting chores after Super Bill Bradley graduated / or completed eligibility in 1968.

Worster,

Remember when DKR put an ad in the Daily Texan for a punter/kicker? That was 71? I remember Steve Adger actually answered the ad, tried out, and won the job, when he hadn't punted a football on 2-3 years.
