Meant to post this one yesterday:

Can anyone find a photo of Rodney Tate? Young man made one of the greatest fumble recoveries in Texas history against SMU in Texas Stadium. In the locker room after the game, I asked him how the hell he dove back into that pile and came out with the ball. He said something to the affect that he knew it was walk back to Tulsa or ride back with the team to Austin.

Tate recovery was HUGE in that win. I remember that @ SMU game well... was there with a UT date from Houston...absolute nail biter game to the end. Horns won 15-13 IIRC.

Yeah, I was at that game and what a thrill that run truly was!!! I too looked for photo of key Steve Hall block and Earl leaping over a defender to score a 24 yard TD - if IIRC.

there was some stiff from Tyler, cant remember his name...........

Something like Rosie...Rosie Palm?...no, that's not it...Rosie Tyler?...Tyler Rosie?...something like that. IIRC he was a pretty decent player AND person...if I could only remember his name...

So many great moments from that 77 game, but the DMN front page Sunday was a photo of that turd from Ball HS lying face down in the middle of the Cotton Bowl is total disbelief that OU lost. Old Ball HC credited his stupidity in costing Ball a shot at the State Championship. Steve Hall laid his *** out.

How far was Erxleben's punt? Guy may have been lacking in the business world, but he was the greatest kicker (punt and FG) of all time.

OU run about the 1:15 mark

Earl is tomorrow; I was just providing Worster a link to the run he couldn't find

Thanks Sabre,

UT vs. ou 1977. minute 1:19 mark in video he shared:

Earl takes the handoff from McEachern (McBath & Aune were already out with injured knees), HUGE hole, leaps over defender and Steve Hall seal block gives Earl a path to the End Zone!

Erxleben had 2 long FG's and later had a HUGE & KEY 71 yard punt that flipped the field.

Horns won a tight 13-6 game :hookem:

Here is a link for a video from that 1977 game:

The drive that ended with the Campbell TD is joined at the beginning of the video with Earl's TD run at the 3:00 mark. You can also access more parts of the game beginning at this link:

They knew who would get the ball & where he was going; still couldn't stop him. For my $ & on my ballot, Earl is the G.O.A.T.
