1,000 Victories

Congrats to the Horns for reaching that 1000 win threshold. That's a lot of wins over the years.

Can't understand the complaining about playing time. Our reserves need to get actual game time, especially those last two-three that don't usually get into games. Games like Kansas is the place to get them that experience. They will be all the more ready to move into the "core" group next season. Our "core" group is 9-10 players, imo. The method of play does not lend itself to a very short rotation. Having little or no dropoff when the subs come is the objective. One can see the uptick in play, sometimes from game to game, sometimes from week to week. We can realistically say that we are two deep at every position and three deep in most. I think of that as a good thing, considering how hard the players have to work to get into that group of ten that will see most, if not all the action, in games.

Re attendance, it continues to increase somewhat. Last season, overall attendance was 3385. In conference, it was 3463. So far this season, the numbers are 3977 and 4544. That's a solid increase in conference play and the way our team is playing is exciting. I hope that all those students that showed up for the last weekend game come again next weekend. Those are the ones that will really push attendance back into the six thousand plus consistently.

At any rate, we can bet the team is now focused on KSU. That's not an easy place to win in. Time to start working towards win #2000. :hookem:

"Celina, Bri and Empress......not to well"...
Despite the fact that you can't spell, I do NOT agree with you...
C and E hit 3's, Bri was a hound dog on defense...

I think some posters just like to gripe about nothing...

It would be nice if there could be ONE 100% positive thread....

It is a shame this thread is not devoted to celebrating a milestone only four other programs in women's basketball have reached. Historical and a great testament to Texas' commitment and foresight regarding women's athletics. It's a BIG DEAL folks!

Perhaps a "I Know Better Than Aston" post should be started for all the "experts" to chime in on how to improve on this one loss team. She's in her 4th year and not one national championship after all, so she clearly needs Internet advice. :rolleyes1:

Yes, maybe a thread does need to be started. Obviously some threads do go off topic at times but I think the people like yourself who are complaining are doing so because you don't like anyone questioning or critiquing the coach or the team. If I have the opinion that the team didn't play well or that the coach could be better in some areas I will give it, that's why it's called a message board. The 1000 wins are nice but i'll be more impressed if they a win a regular season conference championship, something they haven't done in years.

I enjoy a thread that stays on topic and you can always start another one like I said. Your analysis of ME is off.

Celina, Bri and Empress played okay. Celina was 2-5 from the field, 2 assists with 4 rebounds. Empress was 1-4 with 5 assists. Bri was 2-4. How do you get not so well? They had a few turnovers but to say they didn't play well shows your understanding of the game.

UConn plays in a weaker conference but you never see Geno subbing this much during the season. That's because he is building offensive flow and chemistry. We should be doing the same thing with our core 7 players, if we expect to get to the final four. I am not suggesting that we NOT play the other players on the team. I am saying we have to focus on getting our core right first and that is the group that will play when the game is on the line. Our kids play rushed because they know they are coming out within 4 to 5 minutes. Hence the turnovers you see and quick shots.

Coach A just hasn't been where Geno is so she doesn't understand that...IMO she is worried about making too many players and parents happy. This is the time of the season that you fine tune your core so that you can make that push in late Feb & Mar.

Celina, Brooke, Empress, Ariel, Bri, Imani and Kelsey is the core of the team and we need to get their chemistry right before we deep into Feb. To beat the best you have to think like the best!

UConn beat SMU the other day 90 - 37
  • Breanna Stewart played 26 mins
  • Katie Lou Samuelson played 28 mins
  • Kia Nurse played 24 mins
  • Moriah Jefferson played 32 mins
Now that classes are back in, we have limited time to help our kids get better. We have to use games as practice when we can. Our core group has to get better offensively to win big games!

Their chemistry IS there! They have playing well the majority of this season. That is why you question why not put the bench in??? When you are ahead by that much why take a chance at injuring one of these starters? That's smart basketball. I understand the game just fine...... :smokin: Aston was looking out for her girls. Why wear their legs out through the last half of this season???? I can guarantee you that she could give a flying flip about what these players and parents think. LOL! I think she's a D1 coach and knows how to coach. Look what she has done with this team since she's been here. This team is injury prone.....

As far as Bri, Empress and Celina, I was more comparing to their scoring as of lately. They have been ON and just so happens this game they were NOT. Of course they do a lot of good things throughout these games. Jeez!
