2024/25 Portal Transfers

The portal circus is the wild west for certain. But, how does a team, Oregon, make an offer to our player and have that not be tampering? Im not Polliana, but the rules are that a player portals and suitors approach. Nowhere is it legit for a team, an alum, an agent, or a good general BS artist allowed to run around college football making offers. I can imagine a more disastrous field than one that allows professional gamblers luring 18 YO kids with bizarre (unfulfillable) offers for friends and family. Somebody scream STOP.

I just dont see this as a loss. He was not even a factor this year. Granted we had an excellent TE in Helm but I also believe we have several behind him just as capable as Helm.
Bama friends indicated they were head scratching when he transferred to UT - said they were glad to see him go. Didn’t have an impact in the team this year for us - hope he flourishes wherever he lands, though. Good luck to him in his pursuit of his football dreams.

Can only hope & pray we load up another Helm/Thomas type of TE. Game changer when you have that kind of player.

Of all the past 8 Bama portals, only KRob was a good get. Bond had potential if he had stayed another year. The rest were total, complete wasted ship busts.
Thus, in my mind, the only “portal” loss this round was Gullette due to needed LB depth, if anything. And he did have great speed and size.
This year, the NFL early losses were the only real hits to the roster in my thinking. The speed of Blue and Bond will be hard to find. As a former sprinter, I know speed kills. LOL

TE is thin but it'll end up being an "all-call" between Washington, Randle, Townsend, and whoever portals in.

Shannon was basically being trained in that "Karic & Agbo" position to be the 3rd TE on those blocking schemes, as that was also his role in HS. So I doubt he'll make a difference statistically, but it's nice that we have him.

Everyone assumes that Washington will be the main guy, but Randle was super-impressive with Manning in HS and has that kind of rapport with him to be the "safety valve" like Helm ended up being for Ewers.

No news on anyone else.

if you will refer back to stats, Helm was much more effective when the rub game was giving their defense fits. That is not just coincedense. Safeties have to get honest and take their pick. Be vigilant on TE release or cheat up to stop run. That is the way the play is designed to work. I like the HS connection withRandle and Manning. That has currency.

DE and LB going to be stacked next year. DB should be good too. Will be young at DT. Young guys need to step up.
Pretty much nailed it. Although we are getting a couple of experienced DT's from the portal - the guy from Purdue and the other real huge guy--Travis Shaw of UNC. IMHO, our high school recruited youngsters at interior DT have more upside (January and Mervyn/Merlin/Marvin/Melvin Hill (sp?)). Still, we need immediate competence at a "B" grade level minimum, and our portal guys bring that, I think.

January is big and could develop into a very strong beast in our S&C program. Hill has really good film, is quick/fast/tricky, spun "down" from DE, and is now above 300 lbs and not fat. Now, if I could only remember his first name...

Sydir Mitchell to LSU. I don't care what weight he was listed at. The eyeball test puts him at 375 lbs or more.

Maybe the move will help him lose weight, since they don't cook very well in Louisiana...

Lefau did an old Hawaiian hex on him.
Lefau watched a lot of film and learned the flow of the college game (Lefau always hit hard, tackled well, and could run).

So who's left for our LBs next year?

We've got an incoming LB from Arkansas through the portal.

Wow… TexAgs staff confirming Micah Hudson was back in Lubbock today. Strange story. What happens with the NIL money from Aggie??
