2025 Texas Rangers

Viper, I'm with you - I'm thinking CY is working furiously to get Yates signed. CY has done very well so far this off-season - and bringing Yates back would make it an outstanding off-season. BTW - pitchers and catchers report in 42 days!

Here we are, 5 weeks from Spring Training - and Yates, Roberston, and Leclerc are still unsigned. I haven't seen any rumors of other teams pursuing any of them. IMO, it wouldn't be a bad deal to sign each of them for another year (assuming prices don't get out of hand). Emphasis on Yates.

Here is the issue:

"Here is the financial angle of course. The Rangers have just shy of $230 million committed toward the 2025 payroll and plan to remain below the $241 million collective bargaining tax threshold. They’ve already signed nearly $130 million worth of major league contracts this winter and have inked upward of nine figures in deals for the third offseason in the last four years."

Can Yates be signed for $11 million?

^If he is still unsigned a week before Spring Training, the leverage swings to the Rangers. If he'll take a team-friendly deal at that point, that would solve the closer issue.

Rangers avoid arbitration with Heim and Taveras.

Still waiting on the Yates shoe to drop.
Helm I can see; Taveras not so much. However Bochy and Young seem to have a plan.

Yates needs to be done; waiting for Spring Training is Russian roulette since he will get a call when the first closer goes down.

Viper, I've got to think that the Rangers are working this as hard as they can - Yates did a marvelous job for the team last year, and at his age he can be signed to a short-term contract for a reasonable price.

Rangers solve their tv issue. Waiting to see the particulars, but unlike the Mavs and Stars, it is going to cost.

Victory Plus, the same service the Stars use but whereas Stars are free, Rangers are setting up packages. The only package we know for sure will be offered is $100 for a full season of all regular-season regional games. That's less than a dollar a game and a little over 16 dollars a month for the six months of the regular season. I'm not sure if it includes spring training games as media reports didn't address that.

That is the "stand-alone" price. From what I have been able to piece together, they are now talking to DirecTV, Prime, YouTube, Fubo, etc., to include the channel in their sports packages.

I am currently paying $15 per month for Diamond Sports with my Fubo subscription.

Rangers 2025 starting lineup could be so dang good if the injury bug doesn't bite.

Agree, FWHORN. The moves CY has made so far look very promising. They still need to address the closer. I hope they can sign Yates for a couple of years, but if not, they still need to find a dependable closer - and Spring Training is only 24 days away.

Projecting FA's, this writer has Yates to Reds as best fit and Scherzer back to the Nationals.

Could care less about Scherzer, but Yates to anywhere except the Rangers is a loss for the Rangers. I just hope when they are looking for BP help they don't trade to get LeClerc back (again).

Well, rats! ESPN saying that the Dodgers are nearing a deal to sign Yates. If so, the Rangers need to go into scramble mode to find a closer, and quickly - pitchers and catchers report on 12 Feb.

They are approaching having the best player in MLB at everyposition. It must be nice when you do not have to worry about the luxury tax.

Dodgers just signed Yates. This is the worst era for baseball since the steroid era. They are buying a World Series. It's pretty bad. I won't watch them play. Even when they're playing the Rangers. It's terrible for the game. A rich owner. BMD. It's a world of money and it has always been so. I hate it.

The Dodgers just signed Tanner Scott so signing Yates to an already overwhelming bullpen of high-leverage arms is just a big FU to MLB and the concept of a luxury tax preventing a team from doing exactly what the Dodgers are doing.

Not sure where the Rangers go from here unless they want to see if someone like Gray or Rocker could transition to a closer role.

One possible answer is a salary cap - but the MLB Players' Association will never go along with that.
