“I really like the direction the program is going at Texas. This is Coach Herman’s second year. Beating Georgia in the bowl game, and Georgia is a team that should have been in the College Football Playoff in my opinion, that was impressive. He’s gone there so fast with a lot of criticisms, a lot of pressure and the way he turned around the culture of the program and got them on an upward trajectory, it’s really impressive. And, I heard Austin is a great place to live and they have a great education, so that’s a school I definitely want to check out.”

He is some IT speculation on what is going on with this player --

"DL DeSanton Rollins, Trinity Episcopal Day School (Natchez, MS) - 2020: My suspicion is the staff is making a bet he blows up his senior tape. There's some baseline goodness going on there but he isn't a Texas guy yet. He says he speaks frequently with Oscar Giles and that he's been invited to Junior Day as well as the Spring Game. Along with UT, he hears from LSU, and smaller regional programs the most. He says he's always liked UT, though he didn't grow up with a favorite, and he's already noticed the "AMAZING" fan base."​

Also, he plays both Off & Def, and is also on the basketball team (ala T. Sweat).

No I dont know. Only some weight room stuff from his sophomore year. But you can see his football speed in the film. Plus, he will get timed in the camps and those will get posted. Some people who have watched him play live say he already looks physically ready for the NFL

Thompson and his dad were in for ISU and spent time with Craig Naivar and Ra’Shaad Samples. Samples is sort of like like a big brother figure to Thompson and his father, Reginald, is Thompson's HS coach.....

Say what u want about recruiting Texas kids first, I am not in that camp. I really like the nationwide net that Coach Herman casts, we are a national brand ...
 
There are always going to be DFW guys going to OU. Theres too many players to go around and Oklahoma is just up the road. Lots of sooners up there.

Yeh, I know you're right, but that doesn't mean I have to like it! I'd like to see the Longhorns get first choice and let the zeroes and osu pick from the leftovers.

Like it. "No USC on the list"--it's amazing how things have changed.

Recall the dark days of the late 1980s for Texas (the University and the State itself). The Horns were in the dumps, California schools (and any other highly-ranked OOS school) could come in here and cherry pick who they wanted, and the State was crippled by a long-lasting oil bust (and this was back in the days before there was much economic diversification).

Now, we have a huge chunk of California's population moving to the Lone Star State. Seemingly every other kid in California has friends or relatives that have moved to Texas. You can get In-N-Out burgers here in Texas. USC and UCLA can't get any top recruits from Texas and only a meager portion of the top recruits from Southern California. Athletes are looking to bail-out from USC. And, best of all, we're able to waltz right into Southern California and cherry pick some of the best recruits.

It's like The Grapes of Wrath in reverse...
 
Don't get used to it, USC will be back, they are blue blood and once they fix the problem with the AD, they will also fix the problem with their coach and then it's business as usual for them.

But in the mean time, you grab as much California talent as you can get.

Maybe so. Then again, it may take them (both USC and UCLA) a number of years to get this fixed. We definitely should cherry pick top talent where it's available, and now it's available in So. Cal.

Related topic--am I wrong to consider Arizona HS football (at least the greater Phoenix/Scottsdale area) like an extension of the high quality So. Cal HS football. Per capita, Arizona seems to be putting out a lot of top notch talent in recent years, and many of them are interested in UT.
