Your 2012 Campaign Bumper Sticker Suggestions

I don't know the IQs of all the presidents, but most could look smart and deliver an eloquent speech and not sound like somebody wrote it for them.

In raw intelligence, the best weren't the brightest and all were subject to flaws in judgement.
The ones with rare, scholarly intelligence would include Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter. As far as political communications intelligence top honors would to go John Kennedy and Ronald Reagan with Clinton and Obama not far behind. I think Gerald Ford, George Bush Sr. and George W. Bush were well educated and a lot smarter than they came across on camera, especially Ford. LBJ was a legislative genius and with a deep understanding of politics and willing to lose political power in order to gain long term strategic goals with civil rights and the war on poverty.

Nothing in Sarah Palin's celebrity personna and light as a feather books causes me to think she approaches the intellectual capabilities of anyone who has been president in my lifetime. Perry is a shrewd and crafty politician, but without LBJ's attention to the details of making government effective or achieving worthwhile long term goals.

It is interesting you would name Jimmy Carter in the rare scholarly intelligence category. He was a peanut farmer and a naval officer. He is a John McCain. There really are not many people that are smarter or more honorable than this guy.

General: I agree with you on Carter and McCain. Carter was a nuclear engineer, an unusual skill set for a president but the engineering approach was much in evidence in some of the bright spots in his administration (Camp David Accords). At least that's what my poly sci prof at UT said. I think both McCain and Carter were honest, honorable men motivated by deep patriotism and concern for their fellow men. Grades indicate that while McCain could pass engineering courses, his real abilities were elsewhere. He said as much in his autobiography.

HHD, I think Obama qualifies on all of the intellectual attributes mentioned, as demonstrated by his putting together a masterful presidential campaign where he bested a competent, well financed, celebrity endorsed campaign of Hillary Clinton. The area where he has the least training and expertise would be economics and it's obvious by the disconnect between his campaign, his public utterances and his policy decisions that he lacks confidence and clear strategic vision in this area.

But when you have rare intellect combined with common sense, a deep sense of honor and willingness to serve you come up with great leaders -- John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Theodore Roosevelt, Chester Nimitz, Margaret Thatcher ... I'd hope that would be the goal in our leadership search.

Can't argue with that. For now we are stuck with a Community Agitator.

Bumper sticker that would be appropriate for every election since at least 1990...

"If you LOVE our Government, President, Congress, and direction of the country...KISS the single issue and straight ticket voters nearest you!

I actually saw this one on the road yesterday and thought it was good:

PLEASE, PLEASE do not tell Obama what comes after trillion!

The one I saw yesterday was Obama's campaign logo as the "O". It just read:

OMG
WTF

Pretty much summarizes things.
